The 7 members in place before adding UTEP and GCU signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a GOR on July 1st 2026. That GOR will replace exit fees. However until then there will be exit fees and any school willing and able to pay that can still be poached. It seems unlikely but these are crazy times. After the GOR is put in place any MW school that gets poached to a P4 conference has their GOR waived.
This article presents a nice overview of the contract and the contract itself.

As someone who has advocated for a higher profile for NDSU's potential to move up, this makes sense. Doesn't necessarily satisfy, but it's good perspective.

I’m not sure you understand his quote.
That said, MSU IS moving up, so the gist of his quote really doesn’t apply well to the very school he is referencing.

Did MSU publicly advocate for that move in advance? Not in terms of leaks occurring, but the AD and President saying they wanted to move before the deal was done?
Most of the time, these things leak thru third parties. Cases like Sac St lobbying publicly are actually not the norm, and I do think it could work against them.

Kind of an odd story because a) MSU announced their intentions of moving up before doing so b) when they weren’t selected the first time it wasn’t because they had loose lips it’s because they were fucking terrible in football and c) the only reason why they’re moving up now is because CUSA offered every school with a soft pulse.

Well if you think I didn't understand his quote, you must be right and I must be just another moron with a keyboard. Thanks for the feedback.

Yes. An entire year before CUSA invited Missouri State their president declared their FBS intents via a university scheduled interview with their equivalent of jeff kolpack.
Smart was the president in 2023 and he is the one in that quote saying don't do exactly what we did, successfully. Lol.
Eat up the slop.
The interview was published may 9th 2023. They were invited may 10th 2024.
Missouri State was maybe more tactful than sac st has been, but its still a pot and a kettle lol.
Sac st has said "we have money to go fbs".
Missouri state said "give us money so we can go fbs"

Their Brass has quietly but very publicly been ringing the FBS bell for the last 5+ years.

I'm not sure this has been posted.

One note: I'm not sure about why NDSU's FCS budget matters except that it's really healthy for an FCS program. NDSU's budget was under $5 million in D2, and NDSU ramped things up, so history shows that NDSU is pretty good at meeting new challenges.
BTW, I haven't heard much about NDSU's athletic endowment growth lately, but I believe that Matt Larson and the athletic department are doing really good work on that front.

NO ONE knows if there have even been discussions, including him. His comments were about FIT, NOT real discussions or MWC interest.

That's why I don't get that too excited or too down about these things. All NDSU can control is the strength of its position. For example, by the time NDSU gets an FBS invitation, I bet every scholarship will be funded by proceeds of the athletic scholarship endowment.
Regardless, McMurphy didn't do any harm because he got people talking and thinking about going FBS.

McMurphy was just on the radio in Fargo the other day, he said the same thing exact thing he said the week prior.

Yeah, I'm curious where this "back tracking" is. He has stated twice on two different Fargo media outlets the same thing he tweeted in the last week.

He was even asked if anything had changed and his source that was within the MWC said no.
All he ever said that NDSU was being discussed, which came from his sources not himself. I don't really get that tweet unless there was some other tweet or interview from McMuprhy that I don't know about.

This is a case of "Party A says that Party B said something" when there's no evidence that Party B said anything of the sort. That's one of the reasons that firsthand reports are better than secondhand interpretations.
That said, it's all just talk until NDSU receives/accepts an invitation.

Guy who’s posting that is just as big of a rube as lakes lol I’ll trust the actual reporter instead
Look at the rest of his tweets. MWC just likes to come here to shit on NDSU so he had to stir the pot

Re: A new and better FBS thread
If NDSU to the MWC ever does become "imminent" I'll trust McMurphy to report it over the Blue Mountain State podcast guy 100% of the time. He never said it was imminent anyway... the only people who are doing that are us wishful thinking Bisonville rubes.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
I did not see the press conference, but some Bvillers mentioned Coach P had an interesting look/demeanor.

Just the Big Mountain guy who did the deep dive on NDSU posted earlier today.
I don't know McMurphy said to the guys in Fargo but if you look at his tweet he just says NDSU is a "possibility". When he said the MW was looking for one more football school, he closed with sources said. I do think NDSU has been a "possibility" all along. So is the case for several other schools.
As for the adding at least one more football school, according to sources : That is hardly a scoop. The MW has been talking to everybody.
I do believe the Big Mountain guy is likely correct that nothing is imminent. I don't think the MW will do anything until early next spring. They will be continually vetting a lot of different scenarios and that will be during the exclusive bidding period with Fox,CBS and TNT/TruTv. Those folks will be very much in the proceedings. They will tell the MW exactly what they thing every candidate is worth to them. The presidents will then weigh every thing and make a decision.

Actually, not true. I have a great deal of respect for NDSU and would be supportive of their addition as football only. I don't believe an all sports invitation makes much sense for you or the MW, though.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
He has seemed to want other schools than NDSU(talking about the guy on twitter and not MWC), I am not going to argue with him because there isn't much to argue about until we get more news but it is dishonest to act like things have changed when literally nothing has.
McMurphy never said it imminent or that an invite was happening, just that NDSU was being considered per his sources. That is straight from his tweet and every interview he has given with local media, he even gave a timeline that no team may get added until the spring in his last interview.

W/Northern Illinois' interest in Mountain West as football-only member "waning," FCS power North Dakota State is possibility for MW, sources told

Northern Illinois’ interest in joining the Mountain West as a football-only member is “waning,” so the Mountain West is now considering FCS member North Dakota State, sources told Action Network.
If NIU remains in the MAC, it also guarantees Toledo will stay in the MAC, a source said. In September, Action Network first reported the Mountain West had initiated discussions with NIU and Toledo as potential football-only members.

I do believe NDSU has been under consideration all along. Whether or not NIU and Toledo has 'waning' interest has not been confirmed by any other national reporter that I have seen. It could be true, though.

Of course that's why MWC comes here. He's nothing but a troll. I wish Tony would give him the deep six and get rid of him. He contributes NOTHING to getting NDSU into an FBS conference.

I agree with you, though also think McMurphy was reporting some buzz from his sources more so than knowing anything is imminent. There is probably some grains of truth to what “MWC” posts here too.
I believe we absolutely are being considered, but don’t think it will happen quickly. McMurphy himself said on Izzo it could be Spring until something gets done. I also believe there are likely other candidates, and the MW will have to reach consensus on an invite. Might not happen until after PAC makes their move, which could drag out to January. Mid to late December is the very soonest I expect us to hear any type of news or announcement.

This is the kind of thing someone says the day before the invite is announced.

I have to concur that I absolutely don't know more than anybody else on this board. I am just trying to make sense of all of this..Just like you folks.
