Re: A new and better FBS thread
I do understand the frustration of not knowing what is happening. I certainly have little to no idea what will occur.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
The Pac is looking to add and reportedly want to raid the AAC, taking as many as 4 members.
They have also spoken to Texas State
It is possible the MW is looking to raid the MAC
If the MAC loses members they may look to add from CUSA
So extrapolating.
In the next few months, the AAC, the Belt, the MAC and CUSA may well be looking to add along with the Pac and the MW.
Opportunities could be in the offing.
The Pac 12 implosion could well reverberate all over the country. The realignment merry go round keeps spinning.
Nobody knows when it will stop.

I don't either for MW. For MAC that could be a factor perhaps. MAC may try to poach a CUSA school or two, but doesn't really have a lot of other good options to look at.
Some MW podcasters who seem to have "sources" are prognosticating that it will come down to whether or not NIU or Toledo accept MW offer. The speculation is if they say yes, MW stops for now, but if they both say "no", then plan B is the Dakotas+Montanas gang of 4.
Supposedly insiders think they will land at least one of them, but it isn't done yet. If they go, the MW door might be closed, but potentially the MAC door opens.

I don’t think it’s a factor for any FBS conference. It is positive for our chances of getting an invite.

I think we will know about Toledo and NIU one way or the other next week.

Playing bridesmaid to those two teams pisses me off. Makes as much sense as choosing balogna over Ribeye.

Sometimes you just want a sandwich, ya know?

That's all they are getting with NIU or Toledo....a turd sandwich.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Only way Toledo is going is with a Missouri Valley invite for the rest of their sports. NIU isn't getting that invite, they might have to slum it in the Horizon or something worse.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Depends entirely on the money. If they get enough, they go. However, nothing has been decided yet. No offer yet and there may not be one. The MW does not have to add anyone so that makes for tougher negotiations.

That snowbelt twitter account said money was the hangup for Montana and gang of 4 also. Montana AD talked about money on the podcast also.
It seems like for all the parties it comes down to how much money MW has and is willing to part with.

Its a bit extreme to call the two best teams in the MAC a turd sandwich. Combined, they have won the MAC championship 7 of the past 10 years.

It would be really extreme to eat that sandwich bro!

OK, the remark was harsh. But with those schools you get what you see. For NDSU/SDSU it would be a move up and these schools will respond accordingly. Their ceilings would be elevated and they would grow into their new skin. Then there's the logistics. Toledo/NIU are hundreds of miles further outside of the MWC footprint.

The MW has some money but it is not a rich conference. They do have to be prudent.

Let’s put it this way: I wouldn’t mind being conference mates with Toledo and NIU, regardless of where they land. Far better competition than many other MAC members like Kent St. They would also be closer to us than other schools we would play.
How well NDSU and the gang of 4 “grow into new skin” will depend in part on our budgets. There is a direct correlation with FBS success to level of spending. The conference champions almost always have one of the higher athletic budgets in their conferences. We would need at least a $50m budget in MW to be highly competitive imo. The numbers for MAC would be lower.

Mountain time going to suck but fuck it so does some of these games on this schedule.

Its certainly not confirmation its a done deal, more a confirmation that we are legitimately being considered.
My guess is this will ALL come down to money, both for NIU and NDSU. The numbers each need to make it work may be different.

It won't suck as badly as Pacific Time though. :) Hawai'i?
Is this right? The future MWC football membership is standing at:
Air Force
Hawai'i
Nevada
New Mexico
San Jose State
UNLV
UTEP
Wyoming

I won't disagree but I'll also say typically how these realignment discussions have worked in the past is by the time a reporter like McMurphy is putting soething like this out there on X there's been more than just an elevator discussion amongst one or a few MWC schools. I'd assume, at the very least, this means that NDSU is actively engaged with the MWC... whether anything comes of that remains to be seen.

Agree. It’s a good sign but I won’t believe anything is actually happening until we get confirmation from NDSU or MW…

Yeah and the way we guard our FBS interest like a state secret we would’ve probably made Gloria sign an NDA for dialing any number in the 701 area code.
If we were pimping ourselves like Davis or Sac State I’d think less of it. This is the type of break that precludes a formal announcement

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Yes this is what we need, a foot in the door. I don't care if it's FB only and not with SDSU. We just need to get there first and then we will have some leverage for other things when the time comes.

Football-only was the dream scenario...saves on the travel budget with the rest of the sports staying in the Summit. Now, as it relates to the team down South...I hate to say this, but a part of me would like to see the "natural" rival get an invite as well, but the other part of me says screw them, we're doing this on our own and don't need them riding our coat-tails.

That's what I was thinking too, and, of course, I'd be fine if the MWC invites NDSU and SDSU. SDSU is a quality school and has been a good partner.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Oh I would definitely rather make a move with SDSU but if we get an invite for FB only we have to take it! We can rejoin them at some point in the future, there will be more change coming guaranteed.
