Schools like the XDSUs (if they moved up) or most of the G5 are going to be cut out of the CFP anyway IMO.

If that happens and the P4 split from G6, then perhaps reevaluate then. For now, it makes most sense to try to join an existing FBS conference. I’m not fully convinced the door is closed on MW and MAC. Both technically have CFP access today, though MW teams have much higher odds of being selected.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Montana st vs idaho on espn2 got 75k viewers. (Week 7)
Toledo buffalo on espnu got 40k. (Week 7)
Ndsu vs sdsu on espn2 got 174k. (Week 8)
Texas vs georgia in the same time slot got 13.1M (week 8)
Ndsu vs sdsu had identical viewership to fresno vs unlv on fs1. 174k (Week 6)
so according to these numbers our media market is ideal to the pac...
Same viewership as two teams they invited, and on unlvs historic run as well.

Watching SHSU v. FIU. Terrible football and no crowd. ESPNU trying not to show empty stands. For those saying ANY FBS conference is a go, I disagree.

It's a good game though!
And so is the UTEP @ LA Tech!

Holy shit Miami Vice uniforms.
Did we really end on a loss to KC Keeler?
What would our "Fargo" unis look like?

Re: A new and better FBS thread
If we do not get an invite when the dust settles on this, we could tell the NCAA that we have no interest in participating in their little playoffs due to lack of competition and claim bowl eligibility.
"Teams in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) are allowed to participate in bowl games because the NCAA allows teams in lower divisions to participate in bowl games. However, the playoff structure in the FCS discourages most high-caliber teams from participating in bowl games. Instead, teams would rather compete for their division's national championship."
However, it's likely that 6 win FBS teams would be selected ahead of us possibly leaving us out of the picture. On the other hand, we have more brand recognition than many FBS schools, so who knows? Someone with more knowledge of how this would work, please chime in?

It wouldn't. Most of the bowls have tie-in agreements to specific FBS conferences. And beyond that if there are not enough 6 win teams, they select 5 win FBS teams instead. There's really NO path for a FCS team to participate, unless a new bowl is created specifically for that purpose (eg: the MEAC-SWAC Celebration bowl). I suppose we could create the MVFC-Big Sky IHatePlayoffs Bowl
All the eligibility rules are documented. There's no path in to a FBS bowl game, unless a team is in the 2nd year of FBS transition with 6 FBS wins, and even that puts you at the end of the line with no guarantee of participation. If there are enough 6 win teams, transitioning teams are left out.

So if the Bison aren't in the FBS, you'd rather give up 3 home playoff games and a title game in Frisco (guessing 2 of those on ESPN/ESPN2), for a bowl game in probably....Frisco?

-Sam Houston is now bowl eligible...lol. QB goes 14-21 for 76 yards. They have 2-3 more wins on their schedule it will be interesting to see where they fall in the bowl selection process.

Lol bowl games are not the point of going fbs. More good football is the point. As fbs, our regular season will be better than 90% of the games we play in the fcs.

You ever been to an shsu game? There was never anyone there when they were fcs either. I'd much rather play sam houston state in conference play than indiana state or murray state.

True, bowl games are becoming a joke even in FBS really. It's now seen as an exhibition where half the players and coaches have already checked out and are jumping to their next team. The CFP is mostly what matters. Unfortunately the G6 have only one slot across 6 conferences, and it looks like that is in jeopardy too. If it remains, PAC may lock it up most years.
Regular season games is where the meat is, and 8 of those games are conference games. Which is why it is important to me to land in the best conference possible. I would hold my nose and try to bear it in MAC for a few years in hopes of moving elsewhere. Would not really want to be stuck there a decade though.

technically any g5 team in the top 12 makes the playoff, but they are guaranteed a representative even if the top G5 champion isn't in the top 12

Yes yes, *technically* the rules would permit CUSA to place 3 teams in over the SEC and B1G.
Everyone knows there's a snowballs chance in hell of that happening. The system is stacked to make it impossible in practice. It is designed to allow the G6 to have one token spot for now, and everyone acknowledges that.

Not in the CUSA, although NDSU, SDSU and maybe USD would win that league this year.
SHSU schedule is fine. Thursday, Wednesday, Tuesday, Tuesday....not so much.

That is pretty much my outlook. Good football. I'm not going to get super amped before a "Georgia Tech/Cumberland" game.

Here’s the bottom 5 of MVFC:
155 Southern Illinois AA = 51.63
170 Youngstown State AA = 48.98
182 Northern Iowa AA = 47.10
208 Indiana State AA = 41.92
224 Murray State AA = 39.56
Here’s the bottom 5 of CUSA:
146 Louisiana Tech A = 53.45
158 UTEP A = 51.40
169 New Mexico State A = 49.37
174 Middle Tennessee A = 48.61
203 Kennesaw State A = 42.47
Which MVFC teams would you put money on to beat which CUSA teams?
Kennesaw just beat Liberty last night… I don’t know that I’d take anyone right now…

My point was to make a statement that if we are going to be held as FCS captives, we're going to do it our way by our terms. Might garner the attention needed to get a reconsideration?

Only saw highlights. Agree with the posters here that Tue/Wed/Thu games are not the reason to go. Better competition week in week out and higher profile is the reason to go. That, and a *chance* (albeit slim) at a spot at the table…

Kennesaw beating Liberty says enough about the top of that league. Which is why I brought up NDSU, SDSU, USD...hell throw UND in there. So the bottom half of the leagues are equitable. Throw in the weekday games and a half empty fargodome....enjoy.

Like I said in a different comment, and like 26 is saying, no argument here that games on T, W, and Th are nothing to get me excited about. I’d be willing to bet that if we move to an FBS conference, to your point, we would be competitive in every Conference game, with maybe a lopsided victory or 2, and it would inject some excitement into our fanbase for at least a few years while we try to win the conference.
You make this move because we’ve proven that it’s where our FB program deserves to be.

Yeah we keep saying this over and over but at some point......an outsider (conference) is going to have to say it.

Yeah of course, we can’t just make a conference invite us. But we have people who are saying a move up to G6 only makes sense if it’s the “right” conference… I’m not sure I agree.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
How many years do we have to run through the other Valley teams like crap through a goose before someone somewhere sees the value this program brings to ANY conference? Obviously the big boys aren't ever going to give us a look, but we'd be right in the mix of any g5 conference.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
It's quite obvious it has nothing to do with football.

The quality of the program, the quality of the school, the quality of the facilities is not an issue with any of the conferences. They know and respect the Bison and would be happy to have them in the conference. It's been a geography problem. The bring enough the geography issue can be overcome and they bring a ton of value to any conference. I talk to enough people in college administration through various activities to know they are respected. My favorite was the Director of Operations for the Notre Dame football team. He was very high on the Bison. They are a known, positive brand in college athletics.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
The MW is currently negotiating with a schools in Illinois and Ohio for a football only arrangement. The MW could certainly look to you and SDSU if it is also for football only. It is still early in the process. When the Pac 12 imploded it started the trickle down and folks are moving around. It is hard to say where this all ends up.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
McMurphy says talks between MW and GCU are “heating up”
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/oth...ks/ar-AA1sNOdi
Don’t think I saw anything new on NIU and Toledo.
There's a rumor floating that not only did Texas St and SHSU say no to MW, but Tarleton did also. Personally only give about a 20% chance that's true, unless there is a tier 1 source that confirms. Don't think they have had any serious talks with FCS teams yet.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
I believe the original plan was to add Texas State, SHSU and Tarleton as full members. I think the only school who got an official offer was Texas State. I think the discussions with the MAC schools preceded that. Once Hawaii signed on as a full member the MW can be a bit more creative and selective. Gloria said they have been working on this contingency plan since she was hired. They knew that all this was possible. GCU would be a nice add but the Pac may be lurking as well.
Lots of spinning plates at the moment..

But Tarleton State is FCS!! They just need to add NDSU and get it over with.
