I would hope there's an open competition for the starting QB spot come spring ball. I think Hayes should get a fair shot at it.

Ya so that means we get to see our offense from last few years with lots of QB runs. We know how much we love that here on Bville. I will say with him full time it would most likely be more explosive. We don't get to see practices and honestly none of us have seen his passing capabilites besides basically some limited junk time so it is really hard to assess. Also, I didn't see which arm has the torn labrum did anybody else see if it s was left or right? Honestly could have an impact on his throwing.
I personally think they should have moved him to LB and not TE. He is almost in the exact same position as Esley Thornton who was also a great athlete.

I didn't take that as they were going to start Cole, but rather figure out a more effective way of using him. He has said in several press conferences where he wishes they could have used Cole more...so if Nate is better and can run the full offense more efficiently, I think he will start. But I also think their "Cole Package" is going to be more robust and useful rather than trotting him out there for 1 zone read for 3 yards and then bringing Nate back in.

Was it Cole or someone else that ran on 4th down late in the AZ game when we didn’t make it?

Thorton didn't have like a dozen, electric TD's on his resume.
You keep him on the offensive side of the ball, for sure.

Well to be fair it was almost 10 years ago and I was competitively powerlifting at the time so not a desk jockey, the surgery may have advanced a bit hopefully but the doc who did my surgery in the cities moved on to take a role on the medical staff of the Chargers so he was fairly proficient. It took what seemed like a long time to build the strength back in that shoulder. Just saying that he may not be ready for spring ball depending on how the rehab goes, especially if there's any damage to the biceps tendon which makes it worse both for repair and rehab. He should be fine for fall camp.

You mean the series that ended like this? :bleh:
3rd & 2 at ARIZ 23
(9:04 - 4th) Hunter Luepke run for no gain to the Ariz 23
4th & 2 at ARIZ 23
(8:59 - 4th) Cole Payton run for 1 yd to the Ariz 22
Almost as bad as punting it back to AZ with 2 minutes to go, thanks Matt!

Yes, and I think we also took a timeout before Cole’s run and let the fat assed D tackles who were gassed catch their breath. Just not necessary.

also didn't help that everyone watching, including my foreign wife who prefers rugby and still doesn't understand football in the slightest, knew what the playcall was going to be.
little kids were like 4th and Cole!
a blind bro was like "oh here comes #9"
heffray started calling him white Quincy bro and then apologized profusely for being racist.
he's still apologizing bro and that game was 7 years ago.
-
Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
Yeah they definitely need to throw Tyler Roehl's old coloring book in the garbage.

In my defense, not only is counting above 10 hard for me, any number under 10 looks exactly the same to me, so its not like I was calling him “white Quincy” so much as I was confused why Quincy suddenly looked so white, but i digress…

Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
Here's a thought------I've always wanted to see Cole Payton start at QB because such an impressive athlete----butttttt if he's had issues making plays in passing game------
Watching Nathan Hayes in warmups---thought he had the strongest arm and accuracy of all our qbs---which I know---is just warm ups
Could Cole "PULL AN ESLEY THORTON"? Move to LB He is 6'3 235 and one of the fastest guys on our team
JUST AN IDEA-------
Thoughts???

I mentioned it a while back. It's also his best option at the NFL in my opinion.

Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
How about we have a an old fashioned QB competition in 2025? If it’s CP or Willie Mays Hayes, I’m good either way. If CP isn’t QB1, he needs to be worked in somewhere. I’m hopeful, but a little skeptical about his ability to be QB1.
-
Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
Im guessing they rework the offense around Cole and let him have a shot at it. Hopefully Lance and Raja both come back to help. Those two Mekhi and Williams would be something.
-
Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
His attributes remind me of Hunter Luepke. I like the linebacker idea. He is a strong competitor with athleticism to play a lot of snaps. Hopefully his injury recovery will help him find where he can best contribute. Lots of talent to use effectively.
-
Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
I have my doubts about Payton being the QB in 2025 too. We wouldn't let him throw ever and he has a high risk of getting injured via how many runs he will have.
-
Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
CP reminds me a lot of Troy Anderson from Montana State. Was a tremendous athlete that played LB and QB. He's an Atlanta Falcon LBer I believe.

He really just needs to play a Taysom Hill role. Line him up at QB, TB, HB, X, Y, or Z...swiss army knife.

Just what does Chris Harris have to do to get some respect? He has great hands and catches everything, including uncatchable balls. He is as fast or faster than any other receiver on the team, at 6'3" 205 he has excellent length. He is also the best blocking receiver perhaps in the FCS.
-
Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
Cole Payton is going to average over 100 yards rushing next year on his insane talent alone, and if the Bison are able bring in a OT transfer or coach up a couple youngsters, he may break some records.
