Re: I'll be the first to apologize for the student section
I liked the idea of rewarding students with some type of points system for attending games. The more points you earn, the sooner you get your choice of seat (or as mentioned before, you're put into a grouping with people that have similar amounts of points) and you can claim them for "rewards" as well. Should work out to seniors get choice of seats and on down the points list. You want good seats, attend games and earn points. My only stipulation would be that you must be scanned in at the beginning of the game and scanned out when you leave. You stay for the whole game, you get x-amount of points. You stay until half time, you get y-amount of points. Rewards those that stay (and I don't care if they're sitting on their phones just to earn points, it looks good to have butts in the seats) and "punishes" those that leave early. This could be done at all events as well. When students go to claim their tickets, they will be told what grouping to go into and when getting scanned at the game, the program that the scanner uses could be designed to not allow entry for those that aren't supposed to be in that group to avoid "jumpers". Select what group you're scanning in, scan the cards, and away you go. Green means go, red means not allowed. When that group is done, move on to the next group. Just my thoughts. I also like the idea of transferring these points into priority points when the student graduates. They put in the time to attend games, they should be rewarded.
Re: I'll be the first to apologize for the student section
I contacted Josh about selling student tickets earlier and this it the reply I got back:
Ross,
In fairness to the students we do need to give them a fair amount of time to claim their tickets. This week we basically gave them until Thursday evening to claim a ticket. Typically the cutoff is Friday at 2:45pm, but in order to make them available at the same time we released the other available tickets we did bump that up to Thursday evening. We did sell all of the unclaimed student tickets on Friday. Unfortunately there were claimed student tickets that did not get used.
We are visiting we student leaders to discuss ways to increase student attendance and reduce the no shows. I’m sure some of those discussions will include different scenarios and timelines for making unclaimed tickets available to the public.
Thanks,

Excellent. Who'd a thunk it? Ask the question to the right person, and get a reasonable, direct answer. Hmmmmm.
And now for the requisite complaining about how this is being handled.

Its utterly amazing that you can send an email and make a phone call on the same device you use to bitch on BV! WHAAAAATTTTA COUNTRY!!!!.
Re: I'll be the first to apologize for the student section
And yet I'm still reading this thread...................
I love the students and fully realize that they make up for a large majority of the noise generated in the dome. With that being said, we really need to take a hard look at the number of student tickets available for football games. The athletic department allows 4000 student tickets per game, which equals 27% of the student population attending NDSU. In reality, this is a very high percentage of the student population and it is almost unreasonable to expect that high of a percentage of the student population to attend every single game, let alone one single game. Without looking at the numbers, I would venture to guess that the universities from the P5 conferences set aside a much smaller percentage of total available tickets for the students to use. I'm thinking in the 10-20% of total student population range would be a fair number to shoot for, but definitely the 4000 we currently set aside is a bit too high.

All of which can be monitored simultaneously, recorded, data stored with GPS coordinates by our Federal Government(except IRS and EPA departmental communications which get lost, purged or misplaced when convenient).

So when the students dont sell out and we have 500 tickets , those people are already gone!
Or if the athletic department or team makers had a database of people that didn't get tickets in the fall or has requested tickets in the past and send out an e mail announcement that 1,000 tickets were available, with 30,000 demand for season tickets it would seem 1.000 would sell.
In all honesty, its about information. How many knew tickets were available, but how about ticket chasing fatigue. Are people tired of trying to get tickets the first couple of games and give up.
Re: I'll be the first to apologize for the student section
All unclaimed student tickets were sold.
The problem is the students interest in attending and staying.
One solution would be to charge non-attending student ticket holders $30.

The bars are still open when the game is over and an extra 5 minutes of being stuck in the car listening to bison rewind hasn't killed anyone as far as I know.

Cool. So how much do you plan on charging regular fans who don't use their ticket.?
Re: I'll be the first to apologize for the student section
None, they actually pay for theirs AND have the ability/incentive to sell/trade it.
There is no cost to students to attend OR not attend but can still waste a ticket.
