Fuck you jmu. Taking it to teh tar heels eh.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Jmu going to be ranked next week and we can't even win the fcs anymore. Thanks Matt.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Irony? Tim Polasek is our new head coach. Jmu got him fired. Thanks Matt.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
46 to 21 and not even halftime.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
53 to 21. Still 56 seconds left in the first half! Tar heels taking the dukey.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Talked with someone connected to the university in athletics. Definitely made it sound like internally the narrative is still “it’s not the right time”

Technically they are right. It was the right time 9 years ago. Ndsu should be moving from their intial fbs conference to their 2nd upgraded conference now.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Somebody ask Craig Bohl if he wants to be athletic director while he's in town.

Yeah appears the time isn't right. The time was years ago.

Final score 70-50. Crazy, maybe it was preseason basketball?

Connected like a night janitor, or closer to the top?
Sad, if true. This may be our last chance for a while.
MW shakeup is the opening we needed.

Wasn't too long ago we were beating JMU in FCS.
They are in a completely different spot from NDSU since then. In a really good way for them.
Us, not so much

Re: A new and better FBS thread
It's becoming ever clearer that the NDSU leadership is fine with the football program staying put in FCS, winning consistently against East Bugwhistle Poly and Texas U Haventeverheardov.
But standing still is not really standing still when FCS is deteriorating quickly.
Yes, I understand that it takes money to move up, and even apart from that there will be difficult fights with Bismarck.
However, not publicly advocating for Mountain West membership means it won't happen. The current members of the MWC aren't going to do our work for us. They aren't going to develop a case for admitting the Bison, absent interest and information from NDSU. How likely is it that the MWC will pick a team that doesn't have enough balls to even say publicly "We want to join you, and here's what NDSU would bring to the conference." (And if we don't have a strong list of what we'd bring, start putting one together.)
I'd lead with NDSU football having a record of success, a dedicated regional fanbase, and national interest cultivated through a decade-long championship run featured in multiple national broadcasts each year.
In contrast, Sacramento State is involving community and state leaders in their efforts. The MWC won't have to imagine what Sac State brings. They won't have to compile basic information for themselves. Who would you pick? The school that says, "Here's what we can do" or the school standing outside the door that says "Put together the information yourself. We've got a game against East Bugwhistle coming up. And you know what? We're going to dominate them."
Yesterday, Dom mentioned Youngstown State's current woes and wondered if Jim Tressel-era fans could have ever imagined what would happen to their powerhouse program.
I think there might be a similar question lurking for Bison fans and NDSU administrators in another decade or so when 5,800 show up to the Fargodome and we're told it's a pretty good crowd for a Saturday*.

If all the AAC schools stay out east, which seems pretty plausible, the PAC will decimate the MWC, leaving Nevada, Wyoming, New Mexico, Hawaii, and San Jose State
At that point it’s easy to think that everyone looks for an exit and the MWC ‘dies’
I would guess that’s what they are thinking in terms of immediate outcomes of this cycle
But as we are seeing with the PAC, it is not that easy to kill a conference …

Are any teams (FCS or FBS) actively lobbying for an MWC invite?
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
One article I read recently put it like this: A program won't get a conference invite unless they've already accepted the non-existent invitation.

This makes sense. Why would a FBS conference extend an invite to any school if there's any chance that said school may decline the offer. It'd be like asking an ugly girl to dance and being shot down.

Best part about it is we’d be a 3 point dog to JMU right now. JMU didn’t get any better, they’ve just proven that G6 football is no better than NDSU, SDSU level of play.

NMSU and UTEP have been for years. Sammy probably is. Tarleton has announced it from back in their D2 days. Sacramento State is working with people in the community and has openly said they’re trying for a PAC invitation. UC Davis’ AD sent renderings of a potential new stadium to G6 conference commissioners.

Exit to where though?
Unless they merge with CUSA or something else equally ridiculous, they will have to backfill.
Indy status in FBS is purgatory, and it rarely goes well. UMass, UConn, etc.
I believe MW will do whatever they must to rebuild, even if that means adding Sac St, UCD, and Tarleton.
The interesting question is what does this do to their media contract, and does Big Sky survive if they take most of it?

Are they in the athletic dept? Don’t know if I believe that that’s the narrative coming from the top.
I've heard from very high up inside the athletic department that we have been incredibly close to getting a MW invite in the past. And as others have recently posted, you don’t get consideration for an invite unless you are extremely interested.

I'm also taking this with a grain of salt.
These types of discussions are sensitive, and might not be shared with everyone before a deal is done. People don't want egg on their face if it doesn't work out. Plus, MW internally is still figuring out who will stay to make these decisions. At least a couple more schools could still leave. It's hard to add anyone in that environment, until you know who is staying.

Kevin, CAS, and lakes. I promise to always have enough frosted flakes for all of us.

I would probably substitute Rice with Texas St, and UNLV also seems to be in the mix.
He does mention those two possibilities later in the article.
I think most likely outcome is PAC adds 2 more and calls it a day, though up to 3 or 4 is possible.

Not sure I trust Sagarin on this. They've had a few years recruiting at FBS level now, and their new QB and receivers really lit UNC up. I don't think our offense is at that level. Of course we probably wouldn't let UNC score 50 on us either.
A matchup would be interesting. Player talent level in FBS overall is higher though. It's not the same as playing against MVFC, outside of SDSU maybe.

Trust whatever you want, Sagarin doesn’t just look at one game. Go one more game back and they beat Gardner Webb by 7 lol

I also am thinking the same. Does not gel with what Matt all but said last week whatever happens will be done quietly and sources coming form Mountain West in different reports that NDSU is under consideration. Reminder of the political blowback they will get form UND bobo's if they were public about it; you want to announce only when the deal is already done and sealed.

Its not typical for us, and I'm presuming this gets fixed soon. Our D this year is below the standard for Bison football.
If it doesn't get fixed, Jacks game could be ugly. We also won't see Frisco unless it's fixed.

JMU has 22 more scholarships than us. That's enough to field a full starting offense and defense.
We would have more scholarships too

They can have up to 22 more scholarships, but most G5s are at 70-80.

Fuck it, make the MW desperate enough to add XDSUs and UTEP/NM state. Fun frisky conference to get us FBS while we consolidate an invite somewhere better.
