Tarleton St just got named as a MWC candidate
Agree with most of the other thoughts in this article in terms of what PAC and AAC will do.

Are you serious? If they really did that they will never get an FBS invite. Any suggestion of said aspirations can't be taken seriously now

They had no issue competing with us last year. Most embarrassing game I've ever been to.

Starts at the 16:00 mark and continues at the 20:00 mark. The entire segment is a good listen.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
We need to run point on this if we want it, can't rely on Montana and SDSU to mess it up. We go, encourage them to join and let them hang out in FCS pudville if they so chose.

Us shitting our pants for one game does not make them our equal.
Helluva a lot more to a program than one bad game or season.

Decent article that provides some insight into considerations other than football. Makes a point to mention our lack of basketball strength. :sigpalm:
Reiterates the view that we'd be a football-only addition to the MWC. I want all sports to move.

Agree.
Really hope lack of investment in basketball doesn't come back to bite us on this. We have largely ignored that sport, and its the second leg of what drives conference moves. Football is clearly first, but basketball is sometimes a factor.
Regardless of outcome, we need to embrace and support basketball better if we want continued growth as an athletic program.

Exactly. All sports or forget it. This is an opportunity for all athletics and their athletes, not just FB.

I would take a FB only invite if that is on that table. We won't be in position to dictate terms. If we were offered FB only, that suggests the rest of our sports weren't considered up to snuff, and it would be disappointing. I also want to see all sports go.

Of course we do
Matt Brown lays out a cute vision of the MWC as a BB conference, but Gloria has already indicated that she wants to pursue FB, and she will pursue. She also wants earlier games
All this talk about the MWC dissolving or dropping down to FCS is garbage. Her career/legacy will be defined by how she rebuilds the MWC, plain and simple
Otherwise, Matt basically says UTEP/NMSU and the XDSUs are the only options, and this is my prediction. I don’t think the Montana schools will jump
https://www.extrapointsmb.com/p/im-h...everybody-else
I can’t see the XDSUs turning this down if an invite comes (even though SDSU isn’t emotionally ready, lol), so they will pull the $$ from somewhere
It's game day!! Go Bison!!

This sucks, but SDSU is better prepared for the move than NDSU in regards to a 'all sports'.

That’s not what he says. He says we’d struggle in basketball (yes we would) but then fails to mention that we have the best bb program compared to the four schools he put in front of us. Sac State plays in a gym smaller than the bison bunker field house lol.
Montana is perennially a top team? Yeah perennially for the last 12 months lol. Been fuckin terrible for the 14 years before that.
It’s essentially worthless clickbait, but it is one fan’s perspective. I will say I’m glad to see that, again, UTEP and NM State are far down the list past the best FCS options. I have yet to see anyone put those schools ahead of us and that’s obviously the way it should be. Edit - Lurker’s column he posted above is the first.
To the point you’ve been making for a long time, we needed to be investing more in bball. If we don’t make it this time, that will be the problem.

Financially, they very much are not more prepared to go all sports more than us lol
For better or for worse all sports are the way of the future it seems. No more half-in half-out BS.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
The investment we need to make in basketball is coaching, we have completely embraced mediocrity and being just happy to win the autobid every once and a while. The three games in March mentality needs to die.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
The glaring problem for us is that adding the XDSUs and Montanas would severely harm the basketball brand. MWC cares just as much about basketball as football and it would be the basketball equivalent of the MVFC adding the top four teams in the OVC.
We got mad about Murray State. Imagine adding three more of them…

I'm not sure they have great basketball options outside of NMSU, the MVC has a wealth of options while the MWC is much more isolated.

Yes, this and for the love of god get whoever was working on the football gameday experience to get started on the basketball gameday experience. Need to get an atmosphere back in bison basketball.

Exactly. And all things considered didn’t they cancel their season after their players brought guns to their game at New Mexico and murdered a New Mexico student?

They did, so they aren't without flaws either.
NDSU has potential to be good in basketball, the program just needs an identity change.

I was referring to their (SDSU's) ability to be more competitive in all sports.

If we move it's for all sports. No one wants us for football only.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
I disagree that sdsu is more prepared and that our basketball program is holding us back. What you do on the playing surface has little to do in the consideration of conference invite. If that were the case, we would be in a power 4 conference by now!! The facilities for all our teams is first class. This wouldn’t be a football only invite, although that would be ideal. Need more mwc teams poached to the pac.

Was just saying that if we don’t make it it will be because basketball is lagging. If we had a top 100 bball team like football we’d already be in the MWC.
The way I see this playing out is: PAC shops around AAC schools, can’t get anyone. They don’t know their media contract yet so AAC schools would be very foolish to jump to a shaky conference way out on the west coast. PAC relents and has to take UNLV and Nevada. Mountain west has to replenish ASAP and adds XDSUs and UTEP/NM State.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
I’d add Sacramento State to NDSU92’s list above.
If the Mountain West gets to keep San Jose State, then there is your California travel partner.
Plus the MW will be really tempted by that big Sacramento market and the size of the school. There are already stories of Sac State preparing to campaign for a MW spot.
And, if Cal Davis tries to get in on the fun, then that would really get the Montana’s attention regarding the future of the Big Sky Conference…

100% this. Facility wise they are basically ready to go. All they would need to do is build out the East side of their stadium for more premium.seating, concessions and slight bump in capacity etc and and it would be a top tier new MWC venue. They also have solid basketball, and with the frost arena renovations, it is now a MWC caliber arena. All of this has also been laid out in the athletic facilities master plan which apparently doesn't exist for NDSU. Finally, they have great leadership. It's scary how far they have blown past us in the last 5 years.
