If it was the decision of a conference probably, but the remaining teams will never want to add unknown teams with a very limited brand to the conference. They need to sell tickets and an image. Any conference with the 4 Montana/Dakota schools looks good

I'm just being cynical. You are right though. NDSU, Montana, SDSU, Montana St.

The Pac-12 is mobilizing a long-discussed plan to rebuild the league with additions from the Mountain West, sources tell
@YahooSports.
Oregon State & Washington State are targeting Boise, SD State, Fresno & CSU. The schools are applying for membership.

Statement from MWC Commish Gloria Nevarez:
“The Mountain West Conference is aware of media reports regarding the potential departure of several of our members & we will have more to say in the days ahead. All members will be held to the Conference bylaws & policies should they elect to depart. The requirements of the scheduling agreement will apply to the Pac-12 should they admit Mountain West members. Our Board of Directors is meeting to determine our next steps. The Mountain West has a proud 25-year history & will continue to thrive in the years ahead”

Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State & San Diego State leaving Mountain West to join Pac-12 in 2026, sources told
@ActionNetworkHQ. Official announcement is expected Thursday morning, sources said. The MWC schools will join Oregon State & Washington State, but Pac-12 still needs 2 more schools to reach 8-school minimum to qualify as an FBS conference.
MWC will receive a total of $111 million in exit fees. The departing Mountain West schools must each pay a minimum of a $17 million exit fee, which the Pac-12 is expected to help offset, a source said. Also, the Pac-12 must pay the MWC a total of $43 million for poaching the 4 Mountain West schools as part of a scheduling agreement b/w the 2 conferences

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Wonder if those posters who called everyone idiots for thinking this could happen will come back and eat their crow/apologize. Thinking of a couple in particular ;)
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
The question is who else will PAC invite to get to the minimum of 8 teams? Still need 2 more. Like I said we will probably hear sooner than later.

I know you're not talking about me ;)
Here we go folks. This will shake things up. You have to assume this as been in the works for a while, along with other things ...

UNLV, Nevada, Hawaii, New Mexico. Maybe all 4.

You think they would have been named in the report. Unless they are still hashing some things out I suppose.

Probably all they could afford to take from the MWC. Others might have to come from elsewhere - CUSA, AAC, or (gasp) FCS

I know a few FCS teams that are better than any team in CUSA, AAC etc. Not just better teams but better programs.

If he can't take advantage of this situation or at least even discuss possibilities than he needs to be ran out of town.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Some of you will disagree but I'd like to see a couple more openings and bring UND & USD along for this ride. Would love to keep those games on our schedules.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
what if the PACX picks up some west coast basketball schools and adds football only NDSU and SDSU? Probably a pipe dream.

FCS would likely be very long odds. Cal and Stanford coming back perhaps? Otherwise Rice + ??
No idea, but glad to see a major shakeup.

Us and one other Dakota school would be ideal. Altho all Dakota schools are probably pretty enticing to the MWC now.

gonna be hard to get some work done and keep up with this thread

I doubt this. Would be "nice" (lol) but you gain nothing if you're the MWC. These are meaningful matchups for only a handful of people, relatively speaking

"Idaho or Tarleton State could also be in the MWC conversation, but they seem less likely than Sac State, UC Davis, NDSU, SDSU, Montana, and Montana State."
Honestly I could totally see UC Davis going to MWC
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
There’s probably a dozen schools ahead of UND and USD. Most MW schools would probably vote to drop football once they saw Vermillion lol
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
The Pac-12 Conference will announce Boise State, San Diego State, Colorado State and Fresno State additions at roughly 9 a.m. ET, per On3’s Pete Nakos.

Geography and state schools being a big reason.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
It’s happening. May not be exactly the way we want it, but it’s happening.
Would’ve killed for the SDSU, Boise and ‘Rado state road games but oh well. Majority of move to FBS for me at this point is for the non-conference scheduling opportunities anyway.
NDSU would roll through the MW annually with those four schools gone lol

If you actually go through what’s on the record, NDSU wants FBS and SDSU doesn’t so it’s the other way around lol

SDSU just recently built a brand new stadium. It would be a kickass road game for the fans.

Plus it’d be awesome to bring 10k to San Diego listen to the typical clueless FBS fan shit talk then beat them by 40

Re: A new and better FBS thread
President Cook needs to make this happen, FCS football has become a complete disgrace and we need to get to get back to playing against our peers.
