Now this can change if NDSU had a major influx of money. But everyone clamoring for the move up is too lazy to be a billionaire. And honestly it would be easier for you to become a billionaire than it would for NDSU to get an invite to an FBS conference. So the only reason NDSU isn’t FBS is because many of you are lazy and refuse to put in the effort to become a billionaire. So thanks a lot
What’s the large influx of money needed for? Coaches salaries? 44 additional scholarships? Both are easily covered by increased ticket revenue and TV money.
If you’re thinking it’s for increasing our endowment/capital expenditures we just raised like half a billion dollars for that.

How can you be so sure El Chapo isn't a billionaire? You know, oil money and stuff that "we got". :)

There is a huge difference in “locked in the FCS” and “Glad to be here”. We play for championships is what NDSU says. If the proposal was approved then that’s an opportunity to play for a championship at the highest level which was supposedly a reason we haven’t persued FBS before. Going independent would be a huge mistake at this point because the independent schools, including Notre Dame, have no guaranteed AQ so would always be fighting to get in as an at large every year. NDSU needs to in the worst way get super whorish and talk to every conference possible and say they are looking to move up and sell it as a football only member or if say the MAC wanted a full member. Getting in is key, and conference doesn’t matter. Get in, make some noise for a few years and follow the stars killing giants along the way.
Re: A new and better FBS thread
I think our chances of getting into FBS have never been lower. We needed to make the push when we had something to offer. We beat Iowa; we had our umpteenth FCS championship; we had a couple ESPN Gamedays in town. We were all the buzz. And nothing else really remarkable was going on in FBS. But now, you've got serious discussion of a 12 team playoff with multiple paths into the 12-team mix. No FBS conference members are going to want to add NDSU and dillute the chances of themselves making it into the playoffs. What's more, in the event some conference IS open to new membership, we'll now be competing for that slot with several other FCS teams that are attracted to the new playoff format. Those of you who wanted things in FBS to be perfect before making the move, that's precisely when such a move is no longer available to a team like us.

If a G5 conference is serious about maximizing their playoffs chances they should WANT to add a highly competitive program like NDSU. If each G5 conference got an autobid I could agree with your position but with only one G5 team getting into the playoff (under the current proposal) these G5 leagues are going to be competing with each other trying to put together the best non-conference resumes and stack the most quality teams together in one conference so they can further impress during the conference season. I think a 12 team playoff puts NDSU is in a better position to find an FBS conference not a worse one.

Case in point the major bitcher never donated a nickle to TM until he was required to to get season tickets. Even at that he gives the minimum. 50.00.
And bitches about that.Yet he is the one who complains the most that NDSU doesnt wave the magic wand to move up to relieve his enormous case of penis envy.

We all get the "get in idea" What do you do when there is no avenue to get in???? Its obvious at this juncture nobody wants NDSU. Or we would be there.

You make a good argument, and I certainly hope you're right. But I just doubt it. I'd love to be wrong though.
Re: A new and better FBS thread
It is and always has been driven by realignment. Something has to happen above us to create a spot. That has not happened in recent memory, no? Now it will. Buckle up
FB-only budget isn’t as much of a stretch as a full membership, and NDSU has appeal on many fronts, including geography. Sure its north but it’s central and accessible. If a G5 spot opens up for FCS, you can be sure that NDSU will be at the top of the list. I have no doubt about that, and I am confident that the AD knows this and is working on the finances. None of this means anything is guaranteed.
How feasible is it for a conference to sue to get in? I don’t think that’s a route anyone would want to go, but I’m looking at the whole WAC thing. I could see FBS/NCAA(??) agreeing if they got to pick the teams for such a new conference, but I think even that’s a stretch. They would want to take as few teams from FCS as possible.
You have to remember that there is no G5 team in MN, WI, SD, ND, IA, MT, and NE. Chew on that for a bit. It’s in the best interest of a G5 NDSU, as well as the hypothetical conference it would join (even the whole FBS) to keep that number low. I’m thinking one or two maybe.
People keep bringing up money, but look at what’s happening – during a pandemic – with NDSU’s private fundraising. Where do you think the phrase "in our hands" comes from? It's obviously being taken very seriously.

Realignment happened. It just didnt happen like most of us thought it would.
