Re: A new and better FBS thread
Bottom line is it's going to take a miracle to reach peak interest level from the early to mid 2010s. Whether that's FBS or MVFC, perhaps the perfect storm exists...perhaps it doesn't.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
One thing everyone can probably agree on at this point - at least CUSA isn’t just judged on W/L at the level that they’re at. Everyone knows they’re the worst FBS conference of all time.
Same cannot be said for the FCS. We’re still basing rankings off # of losses and everything else be damned. Just like a subdivision full of teacher-college basketball schools should.

Sorry, but you're just plain wrong on this. Even the FCS Coach's poll has a pair of 2 loss teams in the top 10, a pair of 1 loss in 19-23, and five 3 loss teams ranked. Saying it's based on W-L is dumb.

There’s a coaches poll?
Apologies for thinking some sort of intelligence would be used on choosing a top 10.
Funny that you’re using the word ‘dumb’

Oh the irony of calling me dumb when you don't even know about the Coaches poll. Feel free to pick any poll you want and explain how W-L is the driving factor. I'll wait.

You’re the one that called me dumb, ya nut. Then you referenced the coaches poll. Hence the lulz. Not surprising, considering…

The Coaches poll is easily the worst. My point is that since even they don't use blind W-L your statement is dumb. Yes, you are dumb. Still waiting on you showing a poll that uses W-L like you said they do.

Maybe if you call me dumb three times in a post, you can actually wish it into being.
Until then I suppose you can use logical fallacies to try to prove your points

On this we agree.
IF what some people consider a miracle occurred, and we ended up in that conference, we'd really learn what an empty Fargo Dome looks like on Tuesday and Wednesday. At least now we have our tailgating and 50/50 on Saturdays.
A label won't fix anything. People are looking for exciting quality games. If another JMU comes along in the playoffs or we get SDSU at home, people will come. They won't show up in droves for FIU, UTEP, and Kennesaw.
All this fixation on a non-existant option just gets people frustrated. In spite of the name, CUSA is a southeast region conference, and has their short list. We won't be on it, and that doesn't bother me one bit. There will be a better opening in time. Completely in favor of a real FBS option when it appears.

Ideally we could all just admit that we’re advocating for the option that gives us the best chance to join our peers in the upper G5, we could save a lot of the mental masturbation that goes on. Nothing wrong with having different opinions of how to solve the same problem. We’re all Bison fans here I assume ;)

I think the only disagreement is what that best option looks like, and what can realistically happen.
Someone could advocate for joining the B1G, doesn't mean it can happen.

100% agree, that just gets lost on some folks

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Georgia Southern vs Georgia St on tonight. Good crowd.
Would be a nice conference to join, if they ever called we should answer. Feels a bit unlikely, but maybe easier to join than AAC.

Or that WIU is better than SHSU.

Thats becoming a close call. The SHSU/FIU game was sloppy garbage, and looked worse than our game.
SHSU is 0-8, they would struggle to win many games in MVFC.
Their best chance for a win will be next week vs Kennesaw, who is 1-5 in FCS. A single win over D2 Tusculum.
The argument that these teams are a step up would have a little merit if they were strong in FCS before they left.

SHSU played Air Force close. Most of their losses have been one score games. They would beat WIU by 3 tds. SHSU is 160 in Sagarin in all of D1 and Western Illinois is 239. If you believe those teams are close you have zero football knowledge.
Also SHSU won a championship and arguably was one of the most successful FCS programs in the decade before moving up. You are completely clueless.

Both teams are so gawd awful it just doesn't matter at some point.
Sagarin 160 is the cellar of FBS, there's only 133 FBS teams. Only FIU and a couple others worse.
The funny part is they found a way to lose to FIU, after being handed the game on a silver platter.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
OSU/WSU formally asking the court to remove the other schools from PAC board, and give them control

Re: A new and better FBS thread
SHSU making the case for worst FBS team in history.
Losing 21-7 at home to Kennesaw, a team with zero FCS wins this year.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
James Madison ranked #19 !!! (although they just lost their best defensive player for the year)

Re: A new and better FBS thread
MACtion on ESPN2 and ESPNU tonight.
Western Michigan looks much better than their record. They need a win to keep bowl hopes alive.
Buffalo threatening to score on Ohio early.
Both games are interesting, but boy howdy are those some empty looking stadiums.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
But just think how cool the Bison would look in all black uniforms for a night game!

Re: A new and better FBS thread
CFP is moving to a 5+7 model: https://www.espn.com/college-footbal...+7-model-board
Effectively : the G5 conferences plus PAC will get one team in.
I think they are presuming the PAC is dead, but this is bad news for all the G5 conferences if PAC rebuilds.
If WSU/OSU rebuild the PAC, they will have a strong chance of landing that bid.
If WSU/OSU join the MWC, then MWC will have the edge for the G5 playoff spot.

Do you have any guesses how the Wazzu/OSU thing will play out? I have no idea at all..It seems like they are determined to stay the Pac 2 for a couple years. I am not sure how that will work.

Best case is they merge with the MWC in some fashion and continue as G5 programs. Very real chance their arrogance of trying to pretend they're still P5 turns them into total irrelevance like UMass or drop even further like Idaho. Their finances are a total basketcase.

Arizona’s finances are a mess, too…talking about cutting sports or privatizing athletics…

I don't know what will happen but if they do join up with the MW they will be flush with cash from this year's revenue distribution. Maybe 40 million bucks or so each. No MW school will have that sort of bread coming in. I believe they fully understand that they will not be a P5 conference going forward. They are far from finacial basket cases. However, they will have to adjust to the same tv revenue the mountain west schools get now. There are a bunch of G5 schools doing just fine with what they have. They will be alright.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Unrelated to the discussion, but on the FSU-Miami game, the announcer just relayed that FSU coach Mike Norvell has 112 recruits in attendance today. That seems crazy high to me.
We went to the FSU-Duke game a couple weeks ago and I gotta be honest, I was a little let down by the atmosphere. I'm not an FSU fan, but was expecting an elite atmosphere, and it wasn't what I expected.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
FSU is a great experience.
JMU #19. & 10-0.
COULD BE NDSU
