That relationship seems like a good hook to keep him in the boat considering his bro is the best demonstration of next level potential at the QB position. That with the fact he already flat out said thanks but no thanks before even meeting with Nebraska in person gives me the warm and tinglies. Nebraska is likely set at QB anyway so if he turned down Iowa State at QB and Nebraska for anything else, seems like NDSU is in a good spot retention wise.Quote:

What has always bugged me is that Mertens was never allowed to run, which was central to his game. The story was that there was no good backup option if he got hurt. That makes sense to me for the 2008 season but for 2009, Brock was there. My guess is that he just didn't show IT during practice his true freshman year.
Coaches need to put the player on the field that gives the best chance to win and has the most positive upside. After the Zeb debacle this past season my confidence in the coaches to make the right decision is greatly diminished.Quote:
