I would guess, that if NDSU is truly interested in moving to the MW they have already approached the conference..
I have seen numerous podcasters, radio talk show guys and sportswriter saying the MW should add NDSU but I have not seen any indication that NDSU is pursuing an invitation.
Again, that is why I asked if they have made an initial application request.
and yes that's why I have been adamant about our ADMIN calling and meeting with MWC president Gloria...and Craig Thompson before her.

For some reason when I read this my brain saw “Craig’s List”…
IDEA: Someone should post the following on Craig’s List:
“Wanted: FBS conference invite.
All sports or football only. Will travel. Will bring fans.
Only serious offers considered.”

How does that work when half their fanbase is "hockey only", and a quarter thinks FCS is their ceiling?
Sorry, not buying
That article is just a "feel good" piece about NDSU's ambitions (and I didn't even bother to read it)
A more accurate title would be "und will do everything it can to keep NDSU from moving up"
lol
... and that MWC guy is just trolling

LOL, they aren't close to FBS ready, though I guess its no worse than Kennesaw.
Montana, MSU, or SDSU would be fine. We don't need to drag all the MVFC boat anchors along.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Reports flying about that the B1G has vetted UW/UO and might take Cali-Stan too.
That'd be the final nudge to get UA/ASU/UU to go to the BXII.
Yet the B1G could point at BXII and say "They did it!"

You've been active in this thread long enough to know NDSU admin have repeatedly stated on record they've had no communication with the MWC. Then you go and say NDSU needs to initiate contact if we want an invite, which is objectively untrue. I have the village idiot on ignore so I can only imagine what he's said, but I see he's posted recently. Not so much that you are trolling, but you are feeding the trolls.
I hope you keep posting here, I think outsider views are extremely valuable. Just don't bring up things that have been beat to death.

If NDSU has had no contact at all with the MW I can only conclude they are not interested in joining the MW or the MW has no interest in adding NDSU.
It is impossible to imagine why the MW would ever issue an invitation to anyone who has never indicated any interest in joining them at all. Ain't no mind readers on the MW executive board..

Not sure why we have to keep rehashing this topic on this thread. Everyone knows we are interested, and everyone knows there has been contact.
It's been reported that there has been interest expressed, believe the article even called it lobbying. These things always happen thru backdoor channels first. Our President is not going to go on television and publicly beg MWC for an invite.

When I came to this board I wanted to get to know your program because I thought there was a very real possibility you might be added. It was a long shot but not impossible. I don't know what to think now. In an earlier post someone here said that your president has stated there has been 'no' contact with the MW at all. Thompson and now Gloria Nevarez have said that many schools have been in contact seeking an invitation. This has been the case for years now.
Some pundits have said that NDSU should be added but I have not seen anything from anybody directly connected to the University even mention the MW..Your football coach did mention the AAC. That may be the official position and NDSU has never had any interest in the MW..
That is fair. I don't bust anybody who doesn't want to join the MW.
A poster earlier today said the P5/G5 structure is keeping deserving FCS schools out of the FBS. This seemed a stretch to me because less deserving FCS schools have been moving up frequently over the last few years. That is why I asked if NDSU has ever even made an application request to the MW. Your president says no. That seems quite definitive. If you have been lobbying it appears to have fallen on deaf ears.
I really didn't enter into the conversation today to troll. I just asked a specific question.
I probably won't post anything here until there is something concrete, if something concrete ever happens. However, I have never opposed adding NDSU though I would be more supportive of a football only invite. But I don't have a vote.

NDSU has been interested in the MW conference for years, and the MW knows that. Our president has been asked if he’s talked to the mountain west and he says no. That’s because the conversations are done by third party consultants, not the organizations themselves. I’d be surprised if this is actually the first time you’ve heard of this.
Has NDSU “filled out an application”? No, and they never will until they have an invitation in hand from a conference. Neither will any other public school. It’s a FOIA nightmare to do otherwise.
You’re a cool dude MWC and it seems like you enjoy playing devils advocate. Sometimes that comes across as trolling, especially in this instance you’re implying the reason NDSU isn’t in the MW is because they “haven’t applied”. Another is when you talk about the importance of basketball to the conference and then later mention that UC Davis and Sac State are great options for the conference.
My point earlier is that the P5 schools play the game of exclusivity to control the system. The G5 is then forced to follow suit for survival purposes. The result is a system that doesn’t reward ability or even investment. The system is falling apart (or rather becoming exaggerated) and if that’s what it takes for NDSU to get to what is currently considered FBS, I’m all for it.

All an application request does is start the ball rolling. You don't have to fill it out. The request is good enough. But nobody is going to invite anybody with out some sort of direct official conversation with the important parties first. The MW vets schools all the time but that is only limited what they can glean from the outside. They are not going to invite based solely upon limited information. These are multi million dollar decisions. It is not like changing your personal insurance provider Other schools, including FCS members have sent in letters, had direct talks with the people who matter and been persistent.
Your president has said there has been NO contact between NDSU and the MW. I believe him. Backdoor conversations are all well and good but apparently not enough. You have either been lead to believe you will not be invited or you have let it be known by your backdoor people that you have no interest in the MW at all. No official contact leads me to believe it will never happen.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Also, as I have said before. Basketball is not as important to the conference as football but the MW is not known at all for being a great football conference or even a mediocre one, but their basketball is good and well respected. Adding Davis would have nothing to do with that. They would be added for other important reasons. Location location location.
The conference is happy to add good football schools but there are a lots of other factors to consider too. If you believe your excellent football program is all you need to be in the MW you may be disappointed. Or not. Maybe the MW is not your goal.

An application request..You can call it something else if you wish..How about a letter that expresses interest in joining the conference. A hello, we would like to get to know you phone call. Again, it was your president who said there has been NO!!!!! contact with the MW. Nothing says we aren't interested more than that.. I am not sure which is the more disinterested party at this point.
I think the NDSU train to the MW never even made it to the station. It is all moot..

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Sounds like the Arizona BoR meeting discussed Arizona’s desire to leave the PAC. They also told Arizona State that they didn’t want to see the schools get split up. How adorable. Arizona State gonna follow big brother out the door this week.
People around Utah on Twitter saying the school is leaning towards the B12. Probably about 2 seconds after the Zonas leave.
It’s the safe move to get out while you can. That’s why any school with half a ticket is going to jump on the train out of the station. Oregon State and Wash State (and maybe Cal/Stan) will have the MW and AAC to backfill. I’m hoping four from each.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
The latest rumor is if only Wazzu and Oregon State are left they will dissolve the Pac and come to the MW. The Mountain West will also look to add SMU and Tulane for a 16 school conference..Just a rumor but my favorite one yet..

Goodness
Reports say Arizona, Arizona State, and Utah are considering following Colorado to the Big 12
Now Big Ten has begun exploratory discussions to add Oregon, Washington, Cal, and Stanford
Oregon State, Washington State could be Mountain West bound
https://sports.yahoo.com/sources-big...173934989.html
…Mountain West can patiently wait, add Washington State & Oregon State afterwards and not look towards FCS for reinforcements…or even perhaps use the PAC 12 name if everyone else leaves
edit: I see MWC already posted such a bad case scenario

Big win for Gloria if it happens
But I have trouble believing PAC admin could be so inept as to let it
... and she'll STILL need central time zone games, whatever happens (Go Bison)
If you guys are right, what would be happening before our eyes is the longitudinalization of "power" CFB, and at the end of the day this would all be driven by time zones and the rotation of the earth ... crazy
I was hoping this crap would go away for the season, but that doesn't appear to be the case

Re: A new and better FBS thread
If it truly gets down to Oregon State and Washington State, they’d be utter idiots for just joining the mountain west.
Add SDSU, UNLV, Boise, Colorado State, SMU, Tulsa, Memphis and Tulane.
That conference is light years ahead of the current mountain west.

And 24 hours later could be something different making the rounds

That would be a solid G5 conference that wouldn't get much of a tv deal. But if all those schools want to pay exit fees to join, all power to them. I believe 4 times 34 million is 136 million to be split 8 ways..I would be happy to see Nevada get a sweet 17 million plus a larger cut of all those NCAA credits..

If MWC becomes over half Big Sky/MVFC, it will lose some of its luster and potentially the media deal as well.
Take the top of the Big Sky and the bottom of the MWC and you will be lucky to see what NDSU pulls in now every year. Do any of the big Sky teams have a media deal bigger than 2 million per year?

I guess I don't follow the logic. If all those teams leave, the Mountain West is in the driver's seat, not the PAC12. They dictate the terms, not the PAC12. Why would a Mountain West team want to leave at that point....the name alone? I don't think so. PAC would simply implode which is terrible for NDSU as we need the PAC12 to survive.

The PAC-9 was at best a $25M share group.
What you call out is $10M share at best and worse travel.

It would be substantially better for quality of athletics. Take out UNM, SJSU, Hawaii, Utah State, Wyoming, Nevada and replace them with the teams I listed.
You end up sharing way less money with teams that pull less weight currently in the MW. You also have a lot better chance holding on to the P12 name and all that entails for branding and autobid for football.
What would drive it as has been mentioned, would be the up-front buyout money required. In the long run it’s a way better option for OSU, WSU and the 4 MW schools I listed.
