Sources say San Diego St. is still planning on joining the PAC-12. Conference also is hoping to add SMU with Boise St. and UNLV being long shot possibilities.

That's been the tale of many "sources" since USC/UCLA left the PAC.

Chapo surely has a subscription to this so he can summarize it:

If you run it through the Chapo translator and filter it's all good.

The translator pick up what Chapo says, ... and doesn't say. The filter gets rid of the non-sense narratives. Most of what comes out looks like ...

Hammersmith or tony can better explain the AI behind it.

I think this is where most fans are and if I had to guess, where the school is as well.

Did you leave out the Sun Belt intentionally?
As far as MAC v MVFC, they're more alike (Massey Ratings, academic ratings) than we realize.

You could argue they are higher than AAC, but I don’t think they are looking to add schools any time soon, whereas the other schools may need to…

Left them out because I don't see them as a realistic option. They are very focused on their geographic footprint.
If SBC was an option, I'd put them somewhere in top 3 G5. Probably MWC is better, but its close. They have some good teams.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
It would be optimal if some G5 wanted to create a "Northern Division". But I'm not sure what's the benefit to them.

I think SBC is getting a bit closer to AAC in terms of Sagarin after the last round of teams shuffling.
AAC losing UCF, UH, Cincinnati takes them down some. They still have Tulane and other good teams.
Its hard to claim SBC is better though until they place a team in the NY6 or soon to be CFP slot. AAC has consistently done that for a decade, and also has a slightly better media deal. MWC and SBC are pretty close, and you could probably argue that one either way now.

I was judging by SBC’s showing last year - to your point, 1 year does not a conference reputation make.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
once again. is it 2024 when the CFP 12 team playoff start w the 1 G5 team automatically included??
that's the death of NDSU if they aren't in the FBS by then

SBC had a good year, and the gap is closing there. MWC had a down year, but may bounce back.
Tulane (AAC) was #16 and Troy (SBC) was #24 in CFP rankings when the selections were made.
Tulane went to the Cotton Bowl and beat USC.
AAC/Tulane would have landed the G5 CFP bid last year (also for the past 6 years, and 7 of last 8)

The UAC's plans to elevate themselves to the FBS is an unprecedented move in CFB with only the CAA briefly entertaining the idea nearly 2 decades ago. Should the NCAA veto an entire conference's promotion, the obvious solution would be 10 separate invitations to CUSA. Rounding out CUSA at 20 teams would provide depth & stability & more importantly key regional rivalries.
East: Liberty, EKU, WKU, MTSU, APSU, KSU, FIU, UNA, Jax St, UCA
West: La Tech, SFA, SH, TSU, UTRGV, UTEP, ACU, NMSU, UTU, SUU

Re: A new and better FBS thread
If the UAC (ASUN + WAC) is getting FBS invites from CUSA that's basically my "North Division" concept* for CUSA, except they went southwest and not to the MVFC/BSC.
And this is announced before the new $5M entry fee to FBS is finalized. I wonder if CUSA is getting 'something' for the invites while NCAA admission is still cheap.
*the idea was to create stability for CUSA by adding members, a north division

Wouldn't be shocking. These are all the schools that have been on CUSA short list for a while. Tarleton, SFA, UCA, etc. It is SHSU wet dream to play all the texas FCS schools again, just labeled FBS. It will be the Southland all over again. Total joke.

The more I learn about the website that tweeted that the less credence I give to it.
But if ever a group were to pull a stunt like that ... yeah, it'd be C-USA and/or UAC.

He closed by saying the MW is still interested in Texas as a place to expand to.
Until the Pac 12 and the Big 12 get figured out the MW is not part of the story. However, when they do have to make their decisions they already know what they are going to do in every scenario.
It is the wild wild west these days..It is hard say how this will all play out.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
How I hope the days of G5s picking up schools just because they are in large cities are over. If not college football is doomed at that level.
No one gives a shit about the 5th or 6th school from a larger metro.

Yeah but do they give a poop about it though?

Re: A new and better FBS thread
The Montana AD's words could be aimed at his base as motivation to get active and not lose slots they'd long assumed were theirs.
And if he brought up markets and access to potential students, he knows who that works for and against.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
NDUS has plenty of students to support an FBS team and its all about brands now
This tells me they're pushing, together, with high standards
That's enough for me
