Bison football 2025 fall camp preview: Defense
North Dakota State has to replace six starters, but brings back players with plenty of experience.

Chance Symons transfers in from Arizona State. The 6-foot-2, 236-pound Nebraska native got rave reviews from former Bison assistant A.J. Cooper at ASU and Bison head coach Tim Polasek says Symons has caught his eye during summer workouts.
Wilson was “unblockable” at times during the spring practices and is expected to be a huge factor at the defensive tackle spot.
Another Fargo native, Peder Haugo has returned to linebacker and made splash plays all over the place during the spring.

Meet the Bison football transfers for the 2025 season
North Dakota State added nine players through the transfer portal for the upcoming year.
https://www.inforum.com/sports/bison...he-2025-season
DJ SCOTT - Running Back, Kennesaw State
ANTOINE BOOTH - Cornerback, James Madison: Booth has already caught the attention of Polasek, who referenced Booth’s physicality and willingness to do drills during summer workouts.
CHANCE SYMONS - Defensive End, Arizona State
CORTEZ LEGRANT - Running back, Minnesota
JAYLEN ARCHIBALD - Safety, Air Force Prep Academy
BARRY KPEENU - Running Back, Rochester Community and Technical College: His speed caught Polasek’s attention and ability to break loose from tacklers.
ALEX ELLIOTT - Linebacker, Minnesota: If there was one transfer that NDSU worked hard on landing, this was the guy. The 6-foot-2, 219-pound linebacker from Hutchinson, MN was an original Bison recruit out of high school.
JACK IULIANO - Defensive End, Albany
OBALD NIYONKURU - Defensive Tackle, Iowa State: Niyonkuru has impressed during his short time in Fargo and could be a player that people are talking about when fall camp is over.

After four years, Bison quarterback is finally Payton's place
North Dakota State fifth-year senior passed the test of patience in waiting to become the starter.
https://www.inforum.com/sports/bison...-paytons-place
Yes, that includes throwing the ball, which Payton during Wednesday’s first practice looked just as comfortable and sharp as any starting Bison quarterback before him. He showed arm strength on out patterns and touch over the middle.
“I just think the more you buy in, whether you’re starting or not, the more you’re going to get out of it being not just a football player but being a man and this place gives that, too,” Payton said.
