Chance Symons transfers in from Arizona State. The 6-foot-2, 236-pound Nebraska native got rave reviews from former Bison assistant A.J. Cooper at ASU and Bison head coach Tim Polasek says Symons has caught his eye during summer workouts.

Grant said if all of the NDSU MLBs of the last 15 or 20 years went through the NFL Combine, Nathaniel Staehling would be either #1 or #2. He said Staehling is

in the team's top 10 for velocity, when they wear their GPS units, and has a vertical of almost 40 inches.

Yes, that includes throwing the ball, which Payton during Wednesday’s first practice looked just as comfortable and sharp as any starting Bison quarterback before him. He showed arm strength on out patterns and touch over the middle.

“I just think the more you buy in, whether you’re starting or not, the more you’re going to get out of it being not just a football player but being a man and this place gives that, too,” Payton said.
