Their offense has lost all skill position talent, has no QB play to speak of and now down two starters on the OL. Cole Payton would be a dramatic upgrade as to what they have in the QB room. Not saying he is or will be, but he is better that what they have. To echo was Chapo said....Cole is a cult here on Omaha. Just like Easton was. A ton of people wanted him to be a Husker, so when they see him have success and Nebraska struggle, they resort back to wanting him. Nebraska may win the Big 10 West at this rate. It is that bad and the schedule is awful.
Let's say Nebraska makes a hard push to get Cole and Cam comes back. Is our starting QB for 2025 on our roster?
Is there a chance Cam explores transfer options?
Will our NIL program be in a place to keep Cam and Cole here?

The goal is to keep the kids we need to keep! in every sport! No more reasons needed. We have lost great players in several sports!

Hyperbole much? If "best NDSU TD runs ever" means top 100, then maybe, possibly ok.

"Jock Sniffing as an Art Form: How to be a Douchey Fan" by El Chirpo. This book is an irrelevant exploration of one fan's delusional support of the Bison Football Team. Filled with excerpts that are truly cringeworthy, especially the grandma stuff. Once you open this book, you'll throw it in the fire immediately. Not offered at Varsity Mart.

Don't forget the chapters on berating HS kids on social media after they chose another school over NDSU. And, everyone's favorite....Trolling opposing teams message board to give Bison fans the worst look possible.

Absolutely no way those basic runs are top 100 in our history. Zero chance. SDSU or UNDs history? Yeah probably. Those runs are expected at NDSU.

Calm down, message boards, especially in 2023, contain .01% of the entire fanbase. They are not the center of the universe, and let's be real, it's generally mouth breathers on the other end as well.

Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
In the last 2 games Cam is 32/41 for 470 yards and 2 TD's. Chapo: crickets
Cole runs through an open hole where he only has to not trip on his feet to score a TD, Chapo: OMG DID YOY GUYS SEE THAT, TOP 5 RUN IN SCHOOL HISTORY!!

Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
We are going to lose Cole Payton. He has the potential to be great, really great. He won't spend another season on the bench. He is the best ball carrier on the team, and I'm sure he would be far more lethal catching passes that any of our TE's or FB's.
Cole should have close to 20 touches every game, including at least 5 throwing attempts. This kid is an extreme weapon and the ball needs to be in his hands.

2 years of eligibility left right?

Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
Nebraska & about 5 others are waiting for him to portal, while Entz wont have the "talk" with Cam and tell him that he should just go Pro or be done after this season.
Do you really want to lose 2 years of Cole Payton for a 6th year of Cam Miller?
the answer is Empathically No.

I would absolutely take one more year of Cam over two years of Cole, based mainly on you know, Cam’s ability to complete a forward pass. That’s a trait I find desirable in a qb in American football.

You take 1 more year of Cam and Cole transfers. I get how next year that seems like a better choice. In two years, who is the QB? It completely throws the recruiting rotation off. It isn't impossible to recover, but makes it harder. We are just now recovering from Lance leaving early.
I really like Miller, but I don't want there to be a lapse in QBs when there are great underclassmen receivers. Covid screwed a lot of things up including the natural progression of people leaving when they should to make room for the next class. They didn't stay in high school an extra year.

For me it comes down to this. I just don’t think it’s going to be that hard to find a qb with Cole’s ability, while I do think it would be hard to find a qb with Cam’s ability. Cole just hasn’t shown me that he can be a reliable qb at this level. Especially since we apparently can’t run the ball like we used to. Cam can make plays if we get behind the chains. I don’t think Cole can make those throws if we get to 2nd or 3rd and long.

Why do you do this?
You know that if NDSU is fortunate enough to have
Cam Miller return next year, it will be his 5th year.
Yet, in pushing your agenda against a Bison football player,
you are willfully misleading people to try and convince them to join you in being against Cam Miller……
Miller played as a true freshman in the 2021 Covid Spring Season.
In reality, he is a junior this season, not a senior.

If Nebraska wants him then I would presume there is little/nothing NDSU can for him.

Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
Maybe Cole wants to stay so he can be the QB that brings the Bison it's next Championship.
-
Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
I realize that Cole wants to be a QB. But is that really where
his potential is. We're just going to wait a couple of games
and then unleash our new H back. He would be a beast. I read
recently that someone had Cam listed as the top ranked QB in FCS.
Cole the safety was also #1. Cole's future is not at QB, but at H back.

Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
Lots of thoughts regarding previous replies...
First the Nebraska remark - They have a full stable of QB's and Chubba looked quite capable of being their 1 moving forward.
Now on Cole's less than reliable ability to make clinch throws - Can you remember the past few years? That was Cam until this season.
Do we know Cole wants to move on if Cam returns?
In a perfect world we will have another season of both of them with Cole seeing more series than he did this year.
Regardless of what any of us armchair coaches want to see, you cannot push Cam out so Cole can shine. Why would anyone commit to the Bison moving forward if they set such a selfish precedent? If Cole cannot earn number one, he remains the 2.
Both understand how the portal operates and neither are being held here against their will.
-
Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
I can't imagine anyone wanting to move to RB after seeing how the last two years has played out for that squad.
Cole would unironically get more yards and carries by staying #2 qb in this system.
-
Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
NDSU should play the best player.
COLE would make ALL the same throws as CAM with the good pass protection AND add in even more highlight runs.
We've seen Cam's Ceiling, We haven't even seen a unleashed Cole Payton.
And I will stand by my statement that I want Cam to move on to NFL and allow Cole Payton 2 years at NDSU as QB1.
