I don't think it would take this huge amount of money for NDSU to move into the MAC and be highly competitive. I don't even think that we would need a new stadium.
Because the finances will be entirely different with the big boys gone and taking a large chunk of the money that is currently being spread over the entire BCS/FBS.
FBS smalls will be looking for more teams to fill the void allowing teams such as NDSU MtSU UMt SDSU(?) USD (?) UNH and do I dare say UN_ to have a shot at joining them but to fill that void the FBS schools may need to make some concessions since they will no longer be able to financially support what current model they have.
Along with they probably would institute a playoff perhaps? Since they're the ones trying to get it pushed through now.
I think that is a perception that you are try to project when in fact I think its a misguided vision.
Now let me restate what has been posted before but for some reason you move up guys cant comprehend some simple facts.
GT has stated that NDSU is waiting for the BIGs to get settled in what they are going to do. When that happens NDSU will NEED to be ready to make a move depending on the circumstances.
To make a move NDSU has to be INVITED to join a FBS conference. You do understand this right?
Next is FUNDING. How will this move be FUNDED now and in the future? Hint snapping your fingers wont make it happen
Then you have the issue of our stadium. HOW will that be FUNDED?
Many many here arent necessarily opposed to moving up. Its just that those many many people understand the pitfalls and logistics, funding involved to making the move and bring those points up. While your side is pissing and moaning about no people in the opponents stand and youre bored with the competition as a reason to move up. Which really doesnt hold much water in a business sense does it.
Now of course all of this is moot IF you are wanting to move up now. In that case whos going to invite us and where is the money going to come from right now?
I think it would only work from a football only perspective, the MAC has had a history of inviting schools for football only. I guess for the MAC it would give them a strong football program, one that would look impressive on TV and could help bring up the conference's power rating.
For NDSU it perhaps our only way into the FBS and it is a conference that we could become competitive in quickly.
gimme a break there was 10 midweek games western michigan and 5 others played 1 game, so I dont see where people think ndsu will have 3 of them they would have 1 a year and 1 every other year at home on a Thursday maybe fbs is a must this is extremely boring indiana state had 2000 people at their place with 2 trucks parked on the sidelines lets become real men
espn3 is kind of lame but honestly with the expansion of it and smart TV's... it may be a pretty good deal within a few years. You'll probably have an ESPN3 icon on your tv by default.
I agree the mac espn primetime Wed night isn't a killer. I checked out Northern Illinois schedule and they play a 12 game regular season (every year) and 3 total games were on Wed Night primetime ESPN2. Of those 3 games, 2 were home games. Then you get the Mac championship in Detroit (Ford Field) in front of a 1/3 empty stadium. (it is on a saturday) But they also went to the Orange Bowl last year and this year it was in Sunny San Diego!
Substituting a few home playoff games for Bowls or mac championship would be ok in my book. And while their early season tv wasn't as good as ours, they made their way on ESPN 6 times. And last time I checked we were trending on twitter during the CC espn game.
