I would expect a kicker to be brought in but would be a partial scholarship and maybe be a small amount or even a preferred walk on. A lot kickers even at the FBS level are walk ons to begin and later get a scholarship later on.

Dear Recruitgeeks (myself included): Word out of the Cities is Rosemount's Zach Vraa has committed to NDSU. Still trying to get confirmation but source is rather solid.
Hoorah for VRAA++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++++
For your viewing pleasure. I couldn't find a youtube video for Vraa. But here are the other two for today.
Michael Allen: Remember. He is only 16. Not many sophmores move like this.

Chad Willson: Really big and really fast.

This is a great day to be a Bison.
(Trim called the Vraa verbal at 3:30 today. He must have mystical powers.)
I don't think I could take it if it wasn't.:hide:
There is some video of Vraa on his ESPN profile....

Looks like Kolpack got confirmation, he edited his blog entry...

Here's a good quote from Rosemount head coach Jeff Erdmann tonight:
"His best 40 time is 4.58 and he's run a 4.62. but that’s coming in as a freshman and he’s going to get faster. That’s the thing that bothered me about the Gophers. The Gophers say he has to be under 4.5. I would bet Eric Decker was not under 4.5 and look what he did."
Vraa isn't exactly slow. He got second in the 110-hurdles in the big-school state track meet last year. Said Erdmann: "I saw that race. Here he is, 6-3 and 200 pounds running against 5-7 and 160-pound guys and he gets second."
It's a great day to be a Bison! I think everyone here is excited to get the verbal from Vraa, who the heck wouldn't be? I am real pumped about Willson, this is exactly what was needed this offseason, two LB's who are both EE's and can be with the team through spring practice, which in my opinion is the only way to get a JUCO transfer. He looks like he moves well and isn't affraid of laying a hit on someone, seems like the type where if he was a couple inches taller he would be going to a FBS school. Not to mention another RB, who by all reports is a real solid player.
Top this class off with either Jackson or Littlejohn and a kicker and I would be a real happy fan. I am really hoping for Littlejohn, hell of a player, and 6'2" and 200 Lbs. coming out of H.S. is an ideal size to be a contender at multiple positions, mainly safety or OLB. Really hoping he can be added to this class yet!
Jackson, Littlejohn, and a good kicker would be icing on the cake:praying: :praying: :praying: :praying: :praying:
- Moved Zach Vraa from Offer to Verbal per Bison Media Blog/Jeff Kolpack
I think we still need another corner in a bad way. Jackson might be that guy, but I'm a little surprised to be offering another safety. Is anyone else surprised about that?
jackson and littlejohn :hide: would ice it
Anyone else think Jackson and Littlejohn would be like ICE
:p :p :p
Here's a kicker NDSU is looking at. #1 in his class, 4.0 GPA, runs a 4.5 40 and a 1:55 800 (get him on the track team :) ), played QB, and asked to walk-on to Nebraska as a kicker. Long FG of 43 and missed 1 of 35 XPs.

Totally agree!

The list has 22 verbals, with Williams needing one that makes 23 for the year. I don't know how many have full vs partial but I think I remember Bohl telling Hallstrom they were looking at 23 "or so" recruits this year. I hope the "or so" includes a kicker ;)
Kicker? Yes, please! I suspect that Bohl was NOT including Marcus Williams as one of the "23 or so" expected new recruits, but I could be wrong. There always seems to be room for one more "blue chipper." If a difference maker wants to be a Bison the staff will find a way to get it done.
The list of players verbally committed to NDSU includes two athletes listed among the top 10 prospects in Minnesota by Rivals.com in their 2010 mid-season rankings. http://minnesotapreps.rivals.com/viewrank.asp
Billy Turner is at #8 and Grant Olson is #10. Is that any good? Well, I reviewed their final rankings for 2003-2009 in Minnesota. There is not one player on any of the final top 10 lists in Minnesota who originally committed to an FCS school!
What does that mean? Who knows? It could mean that there were fewer FBS players in Minnesota this year. It could mean that Turner and Olson will not be on the final top 10 list (Rivals rankings seem to put heavy weight on which schools offer players). Or it could mean that the Bison have landed a couple of mighty fine prospects. I'll take the latter!
Congratulations to the coaching staff.
I really don't want to get too caught up in how awesome this recruiting class appears to be, but damn. On paper, these guys look amazing. Let's hope they come together like we're expecting them too.
So who is most resounding "can't believe we got him to commit" of the class so far?
I will say it. BEST EVER. The strength of the LB's, OL, Safeties, and WR's are sick. Such a large and well rounded class.
Vraa didn't suprise me to much. He wanted to major in architecture and really didn't have a whole lot of schools recruiting him that offered that major. I would have been much more suprised if he didn't come here. I would say Grant Olson made me smile the most. Also, like the Hinz kid from NE. At the same time every year we say its the best class ever. I'll wait a couple years before annointing this class that title.

He told me this afternoon that NDSU wants him to play linebacker. He's 6-1, 200 pounds and was a KARE 11 All-Metro selection at safety.
This looks to be a great class. But as we all have learned, all that glitters is not gold. Here is hoping we can redshirt this whole class, and let them develop physically and mentally.
"On Paper" and "On the Field" are not the same thing.
Great job by our staff!!!
I was told (prior to signing Vraa, Allen, Littlejohn and Grant Olson, that we had a very good class. The last few scholarships would determine if the class would go from good to great (and yes, we have all discussed that we determine this in 3 years from now). I was told that if we could land Grant Olson, LIttlejohn and Vraa from Minnesota, and take a stab at a couple kids down south, we would be THRILLED.
Well, about a week later.....everytime I pull up the 'Ville I get excited. I don't even know what else to wish for. Congrats to the staff (short handed) for pulling in this incredible group of young men. I also want to state that it would appear we are attracting a good student/athlete in this group.
GO BISON
I think we still need a corner. Here's hoping Mr. Jackson makes a good decision this weekend. He sounds like a good one.
AND WHERE'S THE KICKER!!!
(Other than that...I am loving this class.)
I like all the LB's. I was wondering if Littlejohn was going to play something other than safety. The LB spot makes sense. Several of those guys will likely play next year ...Juco's and true freshman. That's OK because we only had one LB last year and he didn't redshirt, so we effectively needed linebackers for last year and this year. Great news!
If you can't see him, you aren't trying hard enough.

While randomly deciding to search ESPN's recruiting pages for any NDSU commits (and finding like three) I searched "Thornton" and came across a recruit named "Sir Gregory Thornton." Random? Perhaps. Awesome? You betcha.
