I have no idea what the news will be but it is likely to be somewhat underwhelming..

Re: A new and better FBS thread
MWC, your new commish should do a "Flo" and hire a hype man for days like this.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
If i had a guess, it may have something to do with scheduling. The upcoming football season with be the first without the divisions in place.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
NDSU going FBS would greatly help all of our SPORTS.
THE SUMMIT IS HOLDING BACK MOST ALL OF OUR SPORTS
We have regressed in softball, baseball, track volleyball.
Basketball programs would Blossom so much with a move.
Your recruiting jumps up to better athletes and we FEAST of the best 2-3 players off the pus regional fcs summit teams.
this is SO EASY. hurry up

Re: A new and better FBS thread
How have we regressed in baseball? We've never been very good.

We did make the CWS a few years ago, I think?

CWS in 2021 average last year will be 1-16 to start this year & the 1 win was game 4 of a series when the other team sat everyone.
I guess i could've put that post about our teams in the Stony Brook Reboot thread... ol Matt is getting NDSU down to their level!

I looked, they won the Summit conference tourney. Does the NCAA Regional count as the CWS? I guess when I think of that, I think of going to Omaha.

IIRC, they made the tournament and if they would have won their games they would have gotten to Omaha - similar to MBB, i think it counts.

According to the infallible source of wikipedia, only Omaha(the final 8 teams) is considered the CWS. Everything up to that is just the NCAA DI Men's Baseball Championship.

What did you expect? If there's ever any real news there'll be a dozen threads in the football forum within 10 minutes.

I agree with this. The CWS is to the D1 Men's Baseball Championship as the Final Four is to the D1 Men's Basketball Championship.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
So pondering this… what do we as a state gain with a fbs football team?
Publicity…. Really unsure about if we would garner anymore then We have
If it takes more taxpayer money please justify it to me so I can understand it….

#1 w a bullet= not dying a slow death like we are now with Bison fatigue & general malaise.
#2 putting NDSU in the right level of football.
#3 Increasing our other sports level of play, watching AAC & MWC BB tournaments were light years past summit
#4 better recruits/athletes & putting NDSU far & away the obvious regional choice & even cut into Minn/Wisc/Iowa.

Lakes has a long history of answering questions...and the exact opposite being true. Blocking him vastly improves the BV experience, but since you quoted his post:
#1 - Football interest is falling nationwide. Probably a novelty bump at first but if we start turning in 6-8 win seasons against quality opponents don't expect sell out crowds every week.
#2 - The right level is with our peer institutions. Until the NCAA splits D1 into 3 subdivisions we're stuck in the middle with neither being right. TBF this is the most reasonable of his points.
#3 - HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! Travel will kill olympics if we don't form a regional conference.
#4 - We already have this. There are no G5s in our best recruiting areas and we get our pick of the litter from anyone that isn't a P5 starter.

#1 - FOOTBALL ATTENDANCE is falling nationwide. Football interest nationwide I would argue is as strong as ever. The key is going to be finding ways to monetize interest if attendance is declining. The P5 does this with massive TV contracts that have made attendance less relevant to them. So far tickets sold for NDSU haven't been as impacted as season ticket sales have still been good. Butts in the seats are dropping. If season ticket sales drop significantly than it will hit NDSU's budget hard because football is the majority of ticket sale revenue for the entire athletic department currently.
#2 - NDSU is an outlier geographically and so are our regional peers. However, institution wise we don't belong in FCS. There are maybe 10 institutions in the FCS that could be considered our peers.
#3 - Our regional conference is stagnating our olympics currently because we justify our low investment in them based on what others in the Summit spend.
#4 - I would agree that this is mostly true. Having the FBS label might win a small number of additional recruiting battles but even if we move to the FBS we are going to continue to succeed by being a developmental program.

Yeah Chapo seems to think NDSU's recruiting would go to the moon if FBS but I dont think thats likely or even necessary. Still would have less to offer than the P5's, still would have more to offer than local FCS, and would be on an equal footing with G5 schools, but I'm pretty sure we already are on a relatively even footing with them recruiting wise.
I bet more recruits would be given stars, or go from 2 stars to 3 stars. That is an artificial boost though rather than an actual boost.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
I see 0 movement (per usual) from our Stony Brook team ....... they just want to hold onto this for as long as they can milk it. They got handed this to them and it shows. pathetic.
the fact is that YOU CAN BE IN THE CFP SYSTEM as a G5 GUARANTEED TEAM and these dip$hits won't even give NDSU football that chance.

It is pretty much zero movement everywhere. It is likely that nothing happens before the Pac 10 gets things figured out. I am unconvinced much will happen after either.

I've moved on. It's liberating. Let me know the next time we're FCS champs. That's adorable when we do that.

so has alot of this fanbase. it used to be rabid, talk of the town, what are you doing friday night before the game, where we going after the win. Either we Step Up, or continue the slide unfortunately.
2009-2019 was Prime Time NDSU football frenzy!

You don't care about Fargo... its in North Dakota. Why do you care what the talk of the town is?

These strike me as odd questions. Going FBS should have nothing to do with the state, taxpayers, fargo, etc.
Now, if ND or Fargo or taxpayers were footing the bill for the extra funding required then I could understand the question. The reality is however that athletics gets very little funding from either.
NDSU however does have a pretty good ROI for Fargo and the state of ND but that is more academics related.

Eh, pretty good shot ND and Fargo would be the ones footing the bill. To go FBS and succeed there, we probably need a new place to play. NDSU probably ain't building a new football venue without one or both the city and state. ND taxpayers and student fees pay for millions in the athletic budget.

Exactly^^^^
not to mention more marketing/advertising/exposure to attract tourists and businesses which would impact the states bottom line.
NDSU going FBS saves NDSU athletics. period. otherwise the slow bleed out is gonna be depressing
