Bobcats incorporated jet sweeps as well as the option plays, and often split QB Andersen out on the edge with a WR as the QB. Could see a lateral to Andersen in that situation with a downfield shot following. Don’t know if that WR can throw the ball, but if he can chuck it 40 +, Andersen was a state sprint champ, maybe the Cats will take a downfield shot that way.
With the pressure the Bison DLine generates, along with Jabril Cox & Co spying on Andersen, could be a tough day for him. Seems like it takes him a little more time to load and release, so hello Kitty......
But won’t be surprised to see the Cats with a big play or two, helping keep the game closer than most expect.
As to Tony’s Brock Jensen mention, I used a freshman Brock Jensen comp, only faster, this weekend when I was asked about Andersen and the Bobcats at a wedding anniversary party.
The WR you are referring to is Travis Jonsen, #10, who was at one time the #4 ranked dual threat high school QB in the country. Signed with Oregon, got beat out, transferred to JC, got beat out, ended up at MSU to compete for the QB job this spring as a junior but broke his foot like within a week of stepping on campus, didn't get to compete in spring ball. Our 2 year starting QB left school for academic issues, and our other QB on the roster just sort of wilted when he got all the reps and looks in the spring. This is the whole reason that Andersen was asked to switch to QB, just to provide some competition in camp. Andersen was a high school QB, yes, but was not recruited as one and he was one because that's what happens in small time high school football, your best athlete is the QB by default.
Long story short, yes Jonsen can throw but there is a reason he couldn't beat out a true sophomore who hadn't played a lick of QB since high school in small town Montana. But his athleticism is real. Which is why he was moved to WR and to his credit he has embraced it and really is just learning the position.
We have a whole bunch of high school QBs on the roster. #85 starting WR has thrown I think 2-3 TD passes in his Bobcat career so far off trick plays. You might see him in the wildcat for a few snaps as well.

Didn't seem much from BisonReport of the Forum guys from Klieman's presser today but here it is:

One interesting thing I thought was at about the 8:30 mark when he starts talking about guys staying under the 4 game redshirt threshold. He refers to the fact that Seth Wilson is the only one they'll be worried about from that perspective but he goes onto say that there are guys who've played 2 games already that "aren't at the forefront of the gameplan" but he seems to connotate that there's at least one guy who's played 2 games as true freshman who could potentially see time in the playoffs. Based on EC8CH's Freshman 4 thread the only true freshmen who've played 2 games are Mark Stumpf and Trey Lance. File that under "Things that make you go 'hmmmm….'". There's been plenty of speculation that Trey Lance is really the backup QB at this point and those comments by Klieman may have thrown more fuel on that fire. They can only dress 64 guys in the playoffs so it'll be interesting to see if Trey Lance is in uniform once the game starts this Saturday.
Depth chart from Dom's twitter (Allison, Tutsie, Dunn, and Brooks all on it).

Here's how the team stats stack up:

Definitely an average to below average defense. One thing that stood out to me is they're 90th (out of 125) in the FCS in 3rd down defense and the Bison are 6th in the 3rd down offense. If Montana St can't get off the field on 3rd down they're going to be in trouble since they're offense needs to possess the ball (moreso than most) in order to score. Needless to say it's definitely a mismatch on paper.

Since Lance has played in two games already I would be surprised if he played Saturday. With the potential for three games after MSU, there are probably more dicey games down the road.

True freshman Destin Talbert on the two deep backing up Bridges at CB. There are some real studs in this freshman class.

I think if Klieman has his way Lance wouldn't play, even in a blowout, until the semis since at that point he'd only have 2 games left anyway. But *knockonwood* if Stick goes down I think you need to put your best healthy QB on the field and, if I'm reading the writing on the wall correctly, that guy is Trey Lance. If things get out of hand in this game I hope they continue to let Hotchkiss take the mop-up snaps but with only 64 players dressing do they dress 3 QBs to account for all scenarios? We'll see.

My sense is that what we are going to see is a mid-level Valley team.
Re: Montana state playoff game
I liked Choate in his press conference. Seems like a coach on the right track.

They'd prolly still go Hotchkiss to preserve Lances RS. I could be wrong.
