Personally, I think Stig is making a strategic mistake by not offering earlier, but time will tell. Historically, I don't think NDSU & SDSU went head to head on many recruits. That seems to be changing as both schools continue to expand their recruiting bases and they increasingly overlap. If NDSU starts to get more commits of players SDSU wants before they even offer, any battles could start to get awfully one-sided. Just an opinion based on few facts.

SDSU offers a couple/few before the season...my understanding is they have three or four extended at this point-nobody has verballed, though.

NDSU and SDSU are going head-to-head on some recruits. So far, it appears NDSU is in the lead.

NDSU seems to be approaching it like FBS does...get in right away and try to steal a recruit with a full-ride and earlier playing time. SDSU seems to sit and wait for recruits to possibly fall from FBS, see if anyone gets injured or all the sudden rises their Sr. year, and look a bit more into their character before extending the lions share of their offers.

If Hinz were to really have a blow up Senior Year...which is expected....he would have significantly more offers. He is in the heart of Big 12 country down there. 10 minutes from Lincoln. 2 hours from Manhappenen, KS....few hours from Ames, Lawrence, etc. He is a huge get as those schools already know about him from his camps down there. We got him early. Nothing negative about this. Now please sign in February!!!

From an outside looking in perspective, I'd agree that I was kind of scratching my head too. It's not like the recruits signed were being wooed by big time programs or anything. Most of them are local recruits whose competition was UND.

So is NDSU's thinking:
A. These prospects are can't miss, we don't even need to see their senior year. Sign them up now before other teams catch on.
2. This season might not end up much better than the last season so let's strike while the iron is still somewhat hot and sign these players before we have another mediocre season.

I know some NDSU fans might agree, and others will vehemently disagree but this years team has some HUGE question marks. Moves like putting McNorten at WR and bringing in Zo at TE makes it seem like their isn't much confidence in the passing game. Not to mention alot of talk of true freshman seeing significant time. Not to say this team doesn't have the potential to do some nice things and make the playoffs, but it also has equal or more potential to fall apart and have a down year.

Yeah, all of these FBS teams in the link below must really suck because most of the top ten teams have 15-20 verbals already for the 2010 signing class.

Stigy can continue to run his team like a DII team if he wants, that is his perogative. As for me, I am glad Bohl is running the FCS Bison as he would a FBS team. But hey, that's just me. :bow:

I'm beginning to think that when coaches tell recruits to "we need to see your first couple games on film" or "if you blow up your senior year we will offer" is coach speak for "we have offers out to our more highly rated prospects and if they don't accept we may offer you."

Unless there is a stud that was injured and didn't play their Jr. year, I just don't think prospects improve so dramatically to get offered. Hinz dominated as a Jr. and will do so again as a Sr...not much to improve on. Although dominant, Nebraska must have kids on their board who they view as more dominant.

IMO, coaches have seen game film of these players from their Jr. year and have seen some in camp. They know who is who and have them prioritzed on a board. The first-tier recruits already have offers. If a prospect verbals elsewhere or indicate not having interest in a particular program, the school moves down their list and offers.

My guess is Nebraska and Iowa State have Hinz as a plan B or C prospect-as many NDSU prospects are to other FBS programs...they'll offer if offered prospects verbal elsewhere and Hinz's name is next up on the board. I think he could get an FBS offer, but IMO it's more about where he is on their board. He could move up on the board, but my guess is he's already pretty high up there.

I think it is a little crazy that having this many recruits verbal now is a bad thing. The coaches offered these players for a reason and if more verbal now I think it gives coaches a better chance to target a few late bloomers or recruits that wait too long to get an FBS offer later.

This also protects against a player the coaches like from blowing up and getting a big offer.

But ultimately I think it is a luxury a lot of coaches would love to have at this point, they can spend more time evaluating future classes and be patient and wait for a few big impact recruits later on.

• Added Matt Perez of the Offer List. He's an Illinois RB - unfortunately, I found out about the offer in an article saying that he had committed to Indiana.

I can't help but wonder if any of these guys get an offer from a top FBS school would they bail on NDSU. It sure would be nice to say no but if you could play for the likes of Oklahoma, Texas, Michigan, Ohio State,etc... wouldn't it be a no-brainer to take the ride...???

The coaching staff must have a way to limit the exposure of this happening to the program.

There is always the possibility that the big dogs will come courting. If that happenes there isnt anyway to stop it. The kid must figure out where he fits in the best.
Alot of progress can be made between there Jr and Sr year. They are getting bigger and more mature.

Gebhart from Sioux Falls picked NDSU over SDSU because he really likes the coaches #1 (especially Breske and Samuel). Also the fact that NDSU is always good and to play in front of 18,000 plus at home!!
