Hhhmmm … who can I blame for that, DB for trashing on-line ed at NDSU or Bismarck for equating virtual students to physical ones?
Maybe both

Re: A new and better FBS thread
NOT going FBS is really gonna ass ___ NDSU and we are watching it real time.
losing players and coaches. attendence and interest waning. #Fatigue Donations, etc
I talked to coach that thinks Entz & Roehl are Ready to leave too with an Offer from a FBS school.
we have reached our limit at NDSU. The up runneth over. Same thing Bohl said after he left "what else is there to do?"
PLUS the high expectations of NDSU right now and Entz/Roehl getting ripped by small town yokels is getting tiresome.
the BisoNation Crew that started this run from 2009-2015 is long gone and have longed for something more! That crowd thrived on the FBS games.
plus think about this. what if NDSU has to find new coaches? Why would you come to NDSU knowing that anything other than a Title and you will be dragged through the mud.
once again FBS is the only way to salvage NDSU Football going forward , that is a Fact.
time to change AD's now and make it happen, HIRE A PROVEN FBS Athletic Director.

Mine are TOUGH LOVE/Educational & they know it! all D1 coaches know what message board drama is.
I buy each of them a beer every time i see them and talk football.
its the dipshits that do it to them in public around their families at the games and around town that I'm talking about.....
the rest of my long diatribe is 100% on point, but you don't want to debate that do ya.

Ever stop to think that "message board drama" can easily spill over into public perception too?
Another news flash: most G5 teams lose even more players and coaches than we do. FBS won't fix that.
Going price for "proven" FBS ADs : $500k for G5, $1M+ for P5.
Inforum says we pay ML around $234k

How are they going to get an FBS offer when they must really suck based on most comments on Bisonville?

Idk, our d coordinator just turned in arguably the worst defensive season at NDSU in over a decade and got hired into the B10…

Virtual students pay the bills. Its a larger market, better markup and that extra money grows the budget. We can take money out of other states and bring it here
The athletic department is taking a 200 grand hit due to lower entollment
Cook is actually more visionary and has stated we intend to focus on online. Heck why couldnt we be a national online college? Has anyone seen how much money the University of Phoenix makes? They have 90k students

They also don't require dorms, classrooms, bookstores, cafeterias, coffee shops, etc, etc ....
It's a total steal
Yes, Cook is a visionary. He's in Bismarck almost every week
Too bad about athletics. And to think Bismarck is subsidizing und athletics disproportionally through all of this
It's disgusting
NDSU athletics can be solved easily though ($200k) - ME as HC/DC and no wide receiver coach :)

I wonder if the state land grant institution for a state with a massive labor shortage and a university that only cares about online degrees have different missions?

Slide 11, sub-bullet 3: "Athletics budget reductions"
NDSU Pres. Cook put this out to your campus earlier today.

Can’t Teammakers make up the difference? I’m not worried about athletics. I’m also confused what programs they are cutting?

The biggest market aint 18 year olds anymore. It's in state, older than average students who need a degree for that job. Maybe someone who started but never finished. It's the people that have jobs and kids, where its difficult to go on campus. Actually if we market, it could bring workers here from Minnesota, Montana and South Dakota. Its a great opportunity to market for jobs that offer tuition reimbursment if they can do it online

And there’s the Elephant in the room. In the last many years, TMs have paid more for seats under the auspices of TM fees, and financed FCOA. What more are we capable of financially, especially give Biden economics. We, or at least me, are kinda taxed out. I’ve given enough to way out for my scholarship dollars (thank you payback for what I recieved. The real question is whether the “new age” peeps will do their things to keep the FB PROGAM going. I have my serious doubts that they will/

What this says to me is any move to FBS has to be 100% slam dunk financially. In my mind that means AAC or MWC only at the G5 level. And even there, they will probably have to crunch the numbers and build the case for it.

34.5 jobs (faculty?) being cut, along with two colleges, though it sounds like some of the programs from those colleges may be scaled back and merged into other colleges.

Isn't that what DB implied in that transcribed radio interview where he said he's not sure how much more NDSU fans could raise.
Details of the targets and cuts are in that 20+ slide deck I linked (above).
Dr. Cook's letter to campus is in the "NDUS Budgets" thread at that site with the name that shall not be spoken. (Y'all can copy/paste here if you choose.)

He did but you also have to consider how much fundraising will fall if things stagnate further. I don't believe the current state is sustainable. Green and growing or ripe and dying again. The problem is there is no easy answer.
I am now convinced they are looking hard at it and would accept a fb only invite if offered. If being a key word in the sentence.

I do agree that there is only so much that the current members of Team Makers can give and it is completely unrealistic to expect the current membership to keep upping their giving amounts. It would really be nice if we could find a way to increase the engagement of the "typical" fan at the lower levels of Team Makers. I understand that a majority of the real dollars come from the bigger donors but if the numbers increased at the $100, $250 & $500 levels significantly it would definitely add up and it would also get people into the fold and hopefully their small donations would increase over time more. I don't have any ideas to do that, just dreaming about a situation in which the overall membership was double or triple what it is now. Increasing the membership that much might also encourage the larger corporate donors to give more and promote their membership more given the larger overall numbers engaged in the group and the realization that their membership might be valued by more potential customers of theirs being involved. Only so much that you can do to get new members, but a guy can dream.

Meh, nothing new in my opinion from these cuts. What it says to me is what has always been the case at NDSU which is any additional Athletic Department dollars are going to come from private funding not from the University or from the State. I guess I would believe that it isn't that it has to be a slam dunk, it just has to be a better financial situation than keeping football in the status quo. If private funding declines significantly by keeping football in the FCS, than that is a significant risk as well considering that 73% of the AD budget comes from private sources. Leadership has to figure out what the realistic bottom could look like in the FCS and compare that to what a realistic bottom could look like moving to the FBS. Can't base the decision totally on Blue Sky. I don't think they are likely all that much different. What's likely different is if you compare a realistic ceiling in the FCS versus a realistic ceiling in the FBS. There's more money to gained in the FBS if you do it right.

100% and 100%.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
I don't think it is ever easy but lots of schools all over the country have moved to FBS. Not all these schools are loaded with cash. There must be reasonable avenues to follow that will allow you to take this step.

You have a hidden problem: You've created a monster. No, two: the team and the fan base. The fan base has become accustomed to 14-1. Heck, y'all are wailing and gnashing teeth over 12-3 and runner up. As the thread calls it: "Bison Fatigue".
What will the inside of Fargodome look like after three seasons of 7-4 in FBS? OK, even 7-4, 8-3, 7-4? You've set expectations so high that they could end up working against you. Can you raise ticket prices with an FBS move?
Some of you harp on "Stony Brook". I'd guess his desk is covered with scenarios from "blue sky" to "bottom" and he is trying to find a path for his department. Why? His job depends on it. And in the last 24 hours we've all learned the campus environment he's working in (looming cuts).

I think a majority of us would be ok with that as long as we see the light at the end of the tunnel... we could see that light before this run started and knew players were on their way... got there maybe a year earlier then expected and then stayed there...

What light at the end of the tunnel are you talking about? That is our typical seasons going forward. The "dark times" are going to be the 4-7 and 3-8 years.

It's the overall budgets that would concern me, AAC schools average something like a $50-60m annual athletic spend. Not sure how we get there, because even the legacy schools only get $7m payout from the conference, and new members are getting $2m.
I'd imagine to make it work we would need to be AAC football only.

Yep, I've said it before. Whether NDSU stays FCS and continues to have seasons like this last one, or it moves to FBS and the whole game changes - NDSU fans are going to have to figure out how to still go to games without exciting, competitive, high level playoff football being played every season.

It is a bit weird to see UN_ fans come on here and try to have a civil discourse on the state of our university / athletic programs… It seems, um, sneaky? I don’t know, but its hard to trust its sincerity.

The NDSU budget and what's happening there has repercussions on the whole NDUS.

After reviewing those numbers, I think you're right. Football is doable, no doubt in my mind. It's hard to see how all sports works unless someone is going to write a massive check for fund an endowment.
I do wonder if some of the dollars are a bit higher than would realistically be needed due to Fargo costs vs. others but still.....
