I always thought it was fitting when Cole wore #15 because running the ball he looks like Tim Tebow (which is awesome) and throwing the ball he looks like Tim Tebow (which is not awesome).

huh? he threw 1 pass 2 yard and the other over the middle when he should've threw it right.
he needs more than 1 dam series.

I would have sworn he had at least two throws, with one being to his right-middle of the field and into the dirt. The box score on ESPN does only show one though.
EDIT: gobison has the correct box score I believe: https://gobison.com/sports/football/...e-payton/18908
1 of 3 for 2 yards.

Pretty sure he threw a beauty on an out route and the receiver dropped it too.

Don't disagree with that either.
The only way we know how good he is is with a larger sample size.

The QB arguement won't be solved until we see who has instincts to adjustments on the field. Sidelines can't always react quickly enough to adapt to live action. May the best man win given the opportunity.

If our OC cant see it then how will our QB see that?

It's partially because he's a lefty and it looks weird on TV

Steve Young looked weird throwing the ball. Of course I was looking at his backside instead of his frontside so I couldnt actually see his throwing mechanics. Ok maybe not true but kind of. Depends what side of the field your view is

Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
Cole should be the Starter. I said it. we all saw the struggle for Cam at IUW & 1st half of EWU.
Cole has a much higher upside if he was released into the full playback for an entire game

You would turn on him also if he loses a couple of games

Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
wow, going back to 2010 so cool who beat a Big 12 team that year?
anyways... this is a much different situation. Cam is a good QB, I just think COLE has a ceiling none of us have seen yet and the coaches don't want to unleash him because they dont' want to deal with a QB controversy

If hes the best qb and gives us the best chance to win do you truly think that the coaches wouldn’t play him? If your answer is no can i have some of what you’re smoking?

It is so painfully obvious Cam is our best option right now. Cole does not look comfortable at all throwing the ball. He’s basically a better running version of Quincy Patterson right now.

It’s not painfully obvious to me, but what do I know.

NDSU scored six points and averaged 4 yards an attempt against Kansas.

Absolutely going back to 2010 to point out just how long and consistent you have been in your inaccurate analysis of Bison football talent. And Jose Mohler didn't beat Kansas, his play was far from stellar in that game. He did however play well in the playoff game against Montana State when he came in after Brock got dinged. Face it El Chirpo, every time you advocate for a player over the decision by the coaches, you can count on a post about Jose Mohler, and grandmothers of course.

Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
By the way, I have no idea how good of a quarterback Cole Payton can be. I do think that we have seen the best of Cam Miller and it is not at the level of the previous 4 horsemen: Brock, Carson, Easton, and Trey. With that said, I am encouraged by the the coaching staff giving Cole more opportunities in meaningful minutes to show his stuff. If he is up to the task and can use these opportunities to demonstrate that he's the man, then I think he will get that opportunity. We've seen it in the past: Steve Walker replacing Tony Stauss, Brock Jensen replacing Jose Mohler, and Cam Miller replacing Zeb Noland and Quincy Patterson. The coaching staff has historically made the right decision at the right time to make a QB change, and we have had success in each transition. And not once did the coaching staff listen to El Chirpo or any of us other armchair head coaches.

This is 100% where I am at. I just want Cole to get a full quarter where he has multiple live rep opportunities to pass and run and hand the ball off and maybe even make a read or 2 at the LoS… if we get a 3-4 score lead in the 4th, then the coaches should absolutely do this instead of just run the clock out.

Problem with that is a 3-4 score lead is in direct competition with letting him run the full offense. Everything changes on decision making from the coach when you're up big with 10 min left, as it should. He wouldn't get the same chance on 3rd and 6-7 as he would if it was a close game or NDSU was behind. Run up the middle and if we don't get the first, punt. Which is an OK plan of attack when up big late.
-
Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
This week if all goes as planned, Cole will get a lot of playing time in the 2nd half. I would love to see him sling it ao we can see something.

Not to mention with that big of a lead the starters will get pulled so he'd be in there with backups and still not a true measure of his skill.

If he rolls out and throws the ball in the dirt to an open receiver, it ain't because there was a second teamer blocking for him.

I understand that USUALLY you would like to run the clock out, but to give your back-up some live reps, it would be nice to mix in some throws, especially if he gets a full quarter. Doesn’t matter who the D is, 1st or 2nd teamers, just want to see some live reps.

But he still gets reps. Gets work on going through progressions, on looking off safeties, getting pre-snap reads, calling out protections. Just because it's not against first teamers doesn't mean that he can't make improvements.

And if we do have a big lead and Cam gets injured in the 4th quarter people will wonder what he was still doing in the game.

Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
another amazing Cole payton TD RUN.. negated by a horrible holding call

they said it about easton.

literally the same argument "yeah he can run but he can't throw"

the only way the guys in my post above figured it out was from more reps.
i don't know about starter yet but he should see multiple series each game (and based off the first two games that seems like the plan)

Yes he should be. BUT ENTZ/ROEHL/HEDBERG don't have the balls to do it... they don't want a qb controversy. sad really.
I thought the best play at NDSU!!!
