I'd suggest that it would involve much more than simply adding scholarships to existing women's programs. It would probably require adding a sport or maybe two in addition to bumping the dollars contributed to the existing sports for coaching, recruiting, etc. There would likely be larger increases on the women's side to maintain balance. I have a feeling we aren't exactly a long way into the "green" right now when it comes to Title IX. There are 3 methods of maintaining compliance and you only have to meet one. I'd be shocked to learn that we comply under all three methods.
One of the three methods is obsolete("progress"), so there are only two to consider. NDSU doesn't even come close to meeting "proportionality". We use "interests and abilities". I'd put money that the first women's sport we would add would be tennis. It's a low-scholarship sport, so it wouldn't help much if we were using proportionality, but it's a sport actually played by girls in our recruiting area(by this I mean the general student body recruiting, not athletic recruiting). Tennis is also easy from a facilities standpoint as we could use tennis courts around town like those guys to the north. Finally, we'd have an instant home in the Summit. If West Fargo actually goes through with the aquatics center and chooses the expensive option with the Olympic pool and the diving area, then swimming and diving could also be on the list for the same reasons as tennis.
Let me say this again to many in the thread, adding 22 scholarships for football does not automatically mean 22 scholarships for women must be added. The situation is a heck of a lot more complex than that, and it's a pet peeve when people throw that out there. Northern does a good job alluding to that complexity in his post.

I am still totally lost, as to what will College Football, Divison 1, look like in ten years? IN just 5 years? No one can answer this, not yet anyway. BCS is moving to a 4 team playoff next year, but almost everyone says the same thing..."Thats not going to solve much at all?"
At some point there will have to be a 16-24 team tournament similar to FCS, but that seems light years away?
So, the question was, "Why all the fuss about moving up to FBS?" Seems like a fair question to me?
We should wait and see what literally happens at the FBS/BCS level, but maybe that will be waiting too long? Maybe we need to be in a conference ASAP? But which conference? Wyoming is not even in a BCS conference right now?
Too many questions with only limited speculation for answers.
Because we don't want to a bigger version of Northwest Missouri State. We would rather be the next Boise State.

I don't want to be anybody else. I want to be NDSU setting its own path to greatness no matter where that greatness is achieved. So don't group me in with that "we would rather" because no I don't.

This^^^^^^. I want NDSU to do something unique with its future or present. I have heard on the radio a few times how we are referred to as the Alabama of the FCS, so when I called College Sports News on XM radio one time, I referred to Alabama as the NDSU of the FBS.

What greatness is there when theres a capped bubble? Everyone around the country will keep on asking why NDSU isn't moving up to FBS.
soooo if that's your pinnacle, we're just going to have to agree to disagree.
