so wait
it's 2026 NDSU is in Mountain West.
If the Mountain West is the highest ranked G5 conference and we win the MWC Campionship Game we are IN THE 12.
that's NOT that hard to do.

Well obviously status quo isn’t going to cut it or we’d just stay FCS. I believe recruiting will improve quite a bit which would ultimately help us go undefeated against G5. Quality P5/G5 OOC games is the key. And this year there are quite a few losses amongst the top schools. Only need to be top G5 school/conference champ (easy I know).
Who in their right mind thought that NDSU would win 9 going on 10 National Titles in the FCS in what 18 years. Been eligible for what 14? Shit happens and I believe NDSU could find a way.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
After reading another thread I've come to teh conclusion that we need to coop with sdsu eh.

Negative, we don’t have room for clip boards and vests on our sideline.

Recruiting will improve and undefeated. Delusional. Chapo Badge secured. Congrats.

All your points are… if if if…
But congrats you made the 12 you’re gonna get embarrassed in the playoffs. Way to go. Pretty sure you though NDSU hoops beatin Oklahoma would vault them into relevance too. How’d that work.

Ok got it. We move up to FBS and our recruiting doesn’t improve? Very unlikely. Going undefeated in the regular season including OOC has never been done before by a G5 school even though my first post saying we could go undefeated against G5. Interesting
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Daycare you are right. In all of the years of FBS ball there has never been an undefeated G5 team going through conference play. Also there has never been a G5 team go undefeated including OOC. I also remember not too long ago a team finishing the entire season undefeated. Maybe I’m wrong. You are 100 percent right though. Our recruiting will stay the same as it is now at the FCS level and we will never ever ever possibly win a conference without a loss. After all, it’s never been done before.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Star Tribune article questions NDSU in FCS & ends with us on the mountain west
AHEM!!! it's a good article sans the idiot mcfooly quote https://m.startribune.com/entire-foo...=n&clmob=y&c=n

Come on, Jim Carrey ended up < ahem > "with" Lauren Holly after this scene. So, as they say, ...
Y'all remember sweet innocent Lauren Holly from "Picket Fences". Tranny still has the GameBoy. ;)

It would be very hard. But so is winning 9 of 11 national titles in FCS. The Bison are definitely capable of doing it, and it wouldn't surprise me if they did quickly. I'm a huge fan of moving up for a variety of reasons, but I also expect there could be 8-4 type seasons that are successful but wouldn't lead to any playoff. And for forbid they have a 5-7 season. If you think the Bison are EASILY going to become the #12 team most season, you are unrealistic. The FBS move will now greatly impact regular season schedules. The post-season will be less exciting most seasons and that's ok.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
I tossed USAFA and UH-Manoa because they are unique.
I grabbed the highest (it's or SDSU/UNLV depending on year), low (SJSU), and median MWC athletic and football spending.
I added in NDSU.

Is the expectation that an FCS school should have a larger athletics budget than the median of one of the top G5 conferences? Before even joining? Hmm

Nope. Just looking at the comparison and what the funding jump would need be.

Lol @ use of the word "need"... We've been over this a half dozen times already I feel like.
NDSU would have to up its athletics spending for sure. How much exactly? Who knows, surely not you or me. Comparison to existing schools that have been in the Mountain West for 10+ years and have been FBS for 5x that is certainly a data point. So is the difference in cost of living between Fargo and Fresno, San Diego, Denver, etc. Another is how competitive NDSU is already given the fact that our athletic department spends less money.
California Davis spent 14 million more dollars on their athletic department in 2021 than NDSU. Should we jump to the conclusion that NDSU couldn't compete in the Big Sky now too?
Data needs context homie

Re: A new and better FBS thread
UAB looks decent. Sagarin has them at 87, three spots below UIW
Heading to the AAC, lucky blazers ...

Undoubtedly.
That's why I pulled USAFA and UH-Manoa out of consideration.
But mentioning context, there's also this, and this other.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Whoa. Couple huge bowl games today, let’s f’ing go!

I guess the ironic good news for the football program is that they aren't getting much money from the university in the first place

The assumption around here of course is that everyone else's recruiting remains stagnant.
Enjoy the bowl games, I can sense the excitment.

Sounds like you are very hopeful about your fighting hawks picking up the "recruiting slack" that will surely ensue when NDSU goes FBS. I think it'll be much harder than you think, but 17 > 1 so it would appear you have some work to do. I don't think NDSU leaving would make it any easier, fwiw ;)
I like bowl games because I like FBS College Football, but I can tell you’re a big fan of NCC FB so you wouldn’t understand … and that’s okay

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Gave me a good chuckle there. Ya you know me. Nearly 20 year football season ticket holder for NDSU and a huge gopher hockey fan. You got me nailed there with that Fighting Hawks label.
Touched a nerve I guess. Keep ‘em coming reps.

I mean if you look at your profile like 95% of your posts are in this thread bagging on FBS and the other 5% are other threads talking about the same thing here.
So you’ll probably forgive him for assuming

My apologies for not caring I’m too invested in this Bahamas bowl like the 13 fans that are there. 2 epic 6-6 squads going toe to toe.

Not only are you singly focused on this particular thread/topic, you come on here – a NDSU Bison fan site - with nothing but negativity, railing on P5, G5, FCS, NDSU, pretty much everything in general (except D2), while "your" team is on a historic run in CFB with an incredible amount to be positive and excited about
So yeah, in my view there’s no way you’re a real NDSU fan. What you are, near as I can guess, is some kind of "fandrogenous" "regional sports fan", ala Ed Schultz ;)
No matter. You be you and I’ll be me, K? Just expect to get called out every once and a while for the constant BS

Bowl games are for the players..Most of them are in warm weather spots and the bowl hosts make it a very nice experience. I know you find them meaningless but players don't..

Thought the same thing about the senior citizens I saw playing pickle ball at the YMCA.

TD Miami! Huge MAC fan. That's where NDSU belongs.

Dammit. 2 yards short for our future conference the MAC.

Always....always...judge a person based on the internet. Great plan.
For example, I know chapo personally. Great dude. Much to 99% of the internets dismay.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Boy those UAB players sure look indifferent about winning the game. No sign of emotion or joy at all. At the same time those Miami of Ohio players sure look like they don’t want to be there after losing a close game. I mean zero disappointment on their sideline. The game is just nothing you guys since the teams didn’t want to be involved.
