Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
too much pride/loyalty for entz/roehl/braun. almost to a fault. they stick with "their guys" just ask the players who left.
NDSU should be about competition and best man wins.

Ok, I feel better. Apologies for the drift. Back to the discussion and schtick, eh.
I'm not that smart, but aren't you describing iron sharpening iron?

How do you know it ISN'T? Seriously, tell me how. Otherwise STFU with this.

The crazy thing about social media is that it has somehow legitimized this kind of "dialogue". It used to be that it was just grumpy old grandpa or crazy uncle Marv mumbling his irritation about something he didn't like. He usually didn't seem to truly understand WHY he was angry but he was. When you'd ask him what was the problem, he'd belch out whatever combination of angry feelings that were on top of his head, irrespective of them forming a cohesive or even truthful thought. We never took Mr. Cra-cra seriously and typically took cautious measures not to stimulate further similar outbursts.
Today, people engage for some reason.

I’m not really sure what to think here but I do recall similar conversations when Brock was a Junior/Senior. Do you think Jensen would have beat Wentz in an open competition before the 2013 season? Even if Wentz could’ve have won this battle, should he have started?
I don’t know the answer to these questions, and the analogy isn’t perfect, but it’s something to consider…
…I think the only huge difference is transfer portal may induce pressure to play the better player earlier…

All sorts of people said that back then. Wentz was by far the "better" choice but how could you bench a guy who's won you championships...

And interestingly enough, Cam has gone Championship, Runner-up (and he didn’t play poorly in the game that they finished runner-up)… where as Jensen was essentially 1 win better…
Interesting comparison I think…

If that's the case then we've got even worse problems. FFS, this coaching staff thought QP was a starter. But back to Cam, I go back and forth on whether it's the horrible play calling that destroyed his confidence or if his shortcomings dictated the predictable playcalling.

It’s probably a combination of both but we’ll likely never know.

They questioned if Zeb should start over Trey Lance...it literally came down to "who would I rather not defend against"...so let's not put this beyond the staff to mess it up.

The fact they brought Zeb in at all with Trey waiting in the wings is telling as well, IMO…

That QB "battle" was never a battle. Coaches can do things to keep people happy. Especially at QB. Can you imagine if they named Cole starter for next year? They would lose Cam. Don't always have to trust what you read. That was never a battle. Trey was going to be that starter...but you know that.

They needed a backup. Unfortunately they brought in a QB who doesn't fit the offense but he was more of a coach and mentor.

Is it normal to bring in a P5 former starter to an FCS school to just be a back-up? Could be wrong there but seems like they brought him in to compete for the job…

True. Not many QBs fit a system that the QB is basically an extra running back.
Not many WRs for our current system either. This year our passing game was pathetic. We had ample time to develop it in games like Drake and Western I’ll but we passed even less on those types of games.

You don't really want to compare lists, my friend.

Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton

If "one of the most" means maybe top 200, then maybe you can accurately use that phrase. Ease up on the hyperbole, dumbass.

Longest run by an NDSU QB in D1 history.

Longest doesn't mean most electric in my book. He's a pretty good runner sometimes with the ball but not always.

2nd longest. Easton had an 85 yarder

Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
It was certainly a great run but to say it was "1 of the most electrifying QB runs in NDSU history" is just complete hyperbole. It's the hyperbole that I was commenting about, not CP or the run. They're both good.

Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
14-7 tight game, EWU getting momentum and Cole unleashed this epic run
listen to the crowd!!

Even if he finally gets his chance to play do you really think he will want to play under this OC. So much untapped talent it’s a shame

Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
Why can't CP and Cam Miller be in the backfield at the same time?? on a regular basis....... Oh, I know, silly question......
-
Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
"regular" not a good choice of words; more like 10 to 15 snaps......is that asking too much ?
-
Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
Unpopular opinion: this guy still looks super awkward throwing the ball. Long slow motion with poor accuracy. Cam missed some throws today but the ball zips out of his hand by comparison.
