b) the PAC implodes (UW/UO and CaliStan to B1G; four corners take the Big XII pro rata; WasSU/OrSU to MWC)
I'm leaving my marker on b).

Re: A new and better FBS thread
I actually think it will be SDSU alone..
Losing the Aztecs will kill the next MW tv deal..
I do not think the Pac 10 will implode..

The only, only, only reason NDSU would even be thinking about CUSA is if it’s a couple year stopgap to the MAC or MW. I’d allow that point to be argued but not much else. CUSA did better than most thought, but a shiny turd is still a turd.
Is the FCS a shiny turd or just a regular turd?

It's a hot turd melting in the sun.

As a whole? Regular turd - which is why I’ve stopped paying attention to the Southern, Colonial, etc. they might as well all be the Patriot League at this point.
Moving forward our reality for the next couple of years in FCS (MVFC conference games and Big Sky/MVFC playoff games)? Better than a shiny turd, but far from perfect.
In my opinion it’s not worth trading what we have in the Valley and Big Sky for what we’d be getting in next years’ CUSA. At the end of the day it doesn’t even matter because we are not taking in ~$2M more in expenses each year while simultaneously taking at least a $1M revenue cut.
And then to play games on Tuesdays against New Mexico State? Hard pass. MW, MAC, or a greatly, greatly improved CUSA for me to get on board.

What a long, winding way to say absolutely nothing lol. “We wouldn’t have to do anything … We’d have to explore how to replace that member.”
Wut? Which is it?

Remove MAC from your list, because it would be pretty much the same as CUSA, to include midweek games.

The key phrase.."we wouldn't have to do anything." The exploring part is just lip service..All the schools they 'explored' before are now in the AAC. The reality is there is no school who may have interest in the MW who could come even close to providing the revenue SDSU and perhaps one other school leaving could provide. This is not a rich conference..They aren't going to add just to add..

Lol no I'll keep the MAC on MY list because the teams aren't torrid like next year's CUSA, schools are much more regional, the games are on ESPN/2, and will have more than 500 people at them.
Again I probably won't argue if someone thinks we should go CUSA because it's a springboard to somewhere better. I have my doubts about that but I really don't know. But if you're telling me that we should straight up jump to CUSA because it's better than the Valley, idk what to tell ya.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
its almost 2023,
this admin has not had any talks/discussions with MWC or AAC (if we are ruling out MAC/CUSA)
Bison Fatigue is here in full effect already since we have plateaued .
You have to make a move you just have to.....

I think it's time for all of us who advocated for him getting this job to remind him of the tit 4 tat FBS offer that we expect out of him...

I'm saying we should jump to ANY FBS conference that would have us because being in FBS is better than being in ANY FCS conference, including the Valley. So yeah, I guess that’s what I’m telling ya. It's cool that you don't agree. I agree with you on a lot. Just not this.

Time to fish or cut bait.
NDSU should do a presser saying “We are on the move to FBS, but we are not interested in pud conferences. If you want us AAC or B12, we’ll consider it. We would ad value to your conference, media exposure and revenues, etc. We aren’t overly interested in MAC, MWC or CUSA, but would vet an offer”.

my man CAS!!!!
on AAC message board
If the AAC was shrewder than it is, NDSU already would have been invited.
Over the past decade, North Dakota State would have made any of the G5 conferences - and some, if not all of the P5 conferences - better than they were.

Welcome Gloria!!! New MWC commissioner
1 limo ride with Izzy & Slick and NDSU will be in.

Craig is gone, time for the schmoozing of Gloria Gloria!!!

Re: A new and better FBS thread
I like the hire..She has a really impressive resume and is well connected to administrations all across the western states. All in all, I see this as a very good get for the MW. I don't know how much juice the presidents will give her as far as possible expansion so I don't know if she helps or hurts your chances. I have never been anti Craig Thompson at all. It his not an easy gig.
However, it is good to have a new perspective and a positive vibe going forward. She had a very nice job that was based very near to her home town. That she gave that up for a move to Colorado Springs and the MW seems to lend some credence to the idea that she is optimistic about the conference going forward. Optimism is good..

Re: A new and better FBS thread
I guess you don’t need to be FBS to get a late-season College Gameday visit.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
we won't get a gameday as fcs again. 3 has been enough

Good for Montana St. With enough winning they will come back to Fargo.
It's actually much harder in FBS to land gameday if you aren't in a P5 conference and a top 10 type matchup.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Game day was neat once. Overrated IMO besides “look at me” type shit. Bozangelas will be a solid backdrop.

It would be more cool if it wasn't just a reward for there being no good FBS options

Its good they are still throwing a few crumbs to FCS when the P5 don't have compelling games.
I'm sure the storyline/hook will be something like: undefeated against fcs this year, brawl of the wild with Montana, played in Frisco last year. We"re likely to get a few mentions as being the last fcs team to beat them.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
On a radio interview with 365 Sports this week, Keeler said, "I know talking to the guys at North Dakota State, they're trying to get in" the Mountain West.
Keeler also said, "There's actually talks about North Dakota State actually coming into Conference USA."
ITS HAPPENING!!!!
love coach keeler

Re: A new and better FBS thread
There's gotta be some merit there. At this point if we want to go FBS it looks like CUSA is the starting point for football only. The conference looks a little more stable than last winter. Maybe grab another northern program to help with travel? SDSU/USD/or Northern Colorado.

Mike McFeely

Will type up quick post for @inforum
soon, but NDSU AD Matt Larsen and a solid source in Mountain West say Keeler's comments are not accurate that NDSU is actively trying to get into MWC.

haha. what is a MWC rep gonna say? wouldn't everyone in fcs be actively trying to get into the MWC?
mcfooly is the dumbest person on earth not even close.

I actually agree with you here..If anything is really going on no one on either side would want it leaked early..That kind of renders Keeler's comments moot too..

Who knows what side is more accurate, but if it's true NDSU/Mtn West are going to deny it.

LOL, sounds about right.
If we're not talking to MWC, we sure as hell aren't talking to CUSA.
How many times does ML have to clarify that before people believe it?
Quote:
But Larsen flatly denied NDSU is talking with the Mountain West or Conference USA.
"Not sure who he would have spoken to. This is not accurate," Larsen said.

This is where Larsen and the NDSU leadership need to be careful. I understand that they can't come out and openly state that they are lobbying to get into the MWC. However, by denying talks outright they run the risk of continuing to push away a growing segment of the fanbase who want to see movement towards FBS. It's definitely a tough spot to be in.

I have never advocated for them to openly state details of negotiations or specific conferences. What I've said is they need to sell their vision for the athletic department so that fans and donors will stay with them until an FBS invite happens. They haven't done that.
