Re: A new and better FBS thread
At some point Tony needs to rename this thread "Tear Apart Everything Lakes Says." Sometimes it's amusing, sometimes it's regurgitation, but it always seems to come back to that.

Just this thread? The entire board could be renamed that lol

lol...Pavlovs dog is jealous of these guys
if all our ex coaches can be successful in FBS with our system. NDSU should be. Hell if NDSU would've went FBS in 2013 just think of the success & national brand we could have by now

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Weren’t people on here saying the Big12 was dead not too long ago?

PAC will be next, and no, it’s not in danger either. Looking to expand in fact …

We were not ready to make a move in 2013……but sure let that be the narrative. Now with the FPC we are better suited for a move but now these looming budget cuts will probably kabosh and movement in the short term.

Nope ….. we didn’t have options then just like now. We were barely into D1 by then so moving up so soon again would have not been popular

With the exception of our track/Xc programs, we are no where near competitive at an FBS (solid conference) level, and likely will never be. Aren’t we already Football-only in MVFC? That’s what we need to do going forward—football only FBS.
And, yes already, I Know about B12 wrestling. Our other sports would be blown out of the gym at a higher level, forever.
Golf is an outlier maybe, cuz Slick claims he plays that well, and SDBison paid to be a member of some league near Tea Sodak, so….

it's called RECRUITING & Transfer Portal.
NDSU in 2013 or even 2015 had the nation's sports eye on them... 2021 2022 not so much. so yea admin f'cked this up

MBB is not far off from middle of the mountain west level. Hell SDSU is probably pretty close. We would certainly need to step it up across the board though.
I have faith. We’ve done it before.

What other sports are there in the MVFC?*
*Don't get me started on football only FBS

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Reports are that the Big XII deal with ESPN/Fox (63%/37%) includes a pro rata for the conference: If they add a member the deal goes up the amount of a current share. (There is some noise that only ESPN is doing it, not Fox.) BUT ... the pro rata clause only kicks in if the new member is an existing P5 member. If the Big XII plucks say from MWC pro rata does not apply, the deal does not go up.
With the new deal there's no incentive for the Big XII to pull from any G5 conference.
That tells me if they do expand they'll be going after the "four corners" of the PAC.

Expanding athletics funding while contracting academics funding. It won't be a good look to the general public (looking for workforce) or the Legislature.
Even if you say "but private funding!" it'll still be blood sport, with no winners.

I guess we could just pull a UND and start having a consistent drumbeat of shocking negative press. That way people come to expect not being able to hold us accountable for our actions.
Or we could just be clear that the majority of increased funding would come from conference affiliation.
Oh hey, funny how you thought there'd be more indigenous peoples' remains found at NDUS institutions. Guess you were right...

Re: A new and better FBS thread
You guys remind me of an old Marx brothers scene:
Quote:
Wagstaff: ... Where would this college be without football? Have we got a stadium?
Professor One: Yes.
Wagstaff: Have we got a college?
Professor One: Yes.
Wagstaff: Well, we can't support both. Tomorrow we start tearing down the college.

Since you’re here so much, why don’t you expound on how you think the fighting hawks are going to come to Fargo on the 19th and beat the Bison?
Also, who reps you off all the time on here, and do you reciprocate? Never mind. I don't want to know. I have to go vomit now …

Maybe this academic budget contraction will finally provide your team the opportunity you've been looking for to catch up to NDSU athletically. Seems on brand for UND to look to such strategies.

I'd ask you the same, but my interest is at the level of yours as well.

The conferences that would provide a “majority” needed for increased funding aren’t inviting NDSU.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Declining enrollment is going to bad the next few years, interest costs on loans has doubled from last year already and the Fed in not close to being done. Only solution looks to be closing UND and and make NDSU a 20k undergrad full academic institution. Keep the hockey program in GF so the locals don’t notice and collapse all their other sports.

San Diego State is going to the PAC-12 according to Dan Patrick this morning:

A potential spot in the Mountain West may be opening up.
