My post is spot on. You continually repeat yourself to the point I think you must have cut and paste folder you keep referencing.
But please keep beating that horse with the same material.

Thank you oh wise one. Again I forgot to ask for your permission before expressing an opinion. Next time I’ll make sure to share a childish meme or emoji.
If the administration has great plans in the works they might want to start making some real strides to implement them soon. The home schedule next year without SDSU and UND isn’t going to look pretty.

We're not going FBS. I don't blame Cook too much as he just got here. But the others on your list, yeah. The only thing left for you to do to secure happiness on this issue is to let go, have another FBS team or two that you care about, and follow them. Let's hope Minnesota rebounds from the loss in a couple weeks.

Seeds/games would be based on final Massey Ratings (all DI CFB) from 2021, namely:
NDSU 42 vs CMU 82
SDSU 81 vs WMU 83
UNI 101 vs NIU 93
Mo St 105 vs Toledo 95
SIU 108 vs Miami 99
USD 111 vs Ball St 109
UND 119 vs Kent 113
YSU 145 vs EMU 118
Ill St 149 vs Buffalo 129
Ind St 160 vs Ohio 141
WIU 168 vs BGSU 151
Murray St 186 vs Akron 179
Murray State isn't MVFC quite yet, but I needed a 12th team.
The Sagarin ranking comparisons are similar (MVFC vs MAC):
NDSU 38 vs CMU 69
SDSU 71 vs WMU 72
UNI 99 vs Toledo 80
MO St 103 vs Miami 87
SIU 109 vs NIU 93
USD 117 vs Ball St 104
UND 119 vs EMU 107
YSU 143 vs Kent 108
Ill St 158 vs Buffalo 125
Ind St 169 vs Ohio 132
WIU 179 vs BGSU 153
Murray St 191 vs Akron 181
The MVFC right now is the "western MAC", without the FBS label (and revenues and expenses).
Brought back for consideration.

We keep beating the same horse and putting the thought into our fan base that staying FCS will be the downfall of our program if we do not move to the FBS immediately. All this and we know we don’t have and slam dunk options or even any imminent invites on the foreseeable horizon. The attitudes on this board are what is dragging down this program!!!!!

8-4ish isn't an unrealistic average. 9 FCS championships but "only" 3 unbeaten seasons. If you think we'll get 2 P5 games annually, expect to lose a majority to the P5 that are willing to schedule us. That's ok, because 8 wins easily gets us a (probably crappy) bowl game and in the running for conference champ.

No one is putting that thought into the fanbase. The fanbase is making that decision on their own. Individual fans, one at a time. It's been happening for years.

Lol you’re making my point. In this scenario we’re playing high level P5 schools that will beat us more often than not (bucking the historical trend). Couple days ago it was only Toledo and Tulsa because the big schools wouldn’t play us and we’d all be bored.
Which is it?
FBS isn’t this made up fantasy land where everything is perfect like Lakes makes it out to be. Neither is it this place where everything is negative and we’ll all of the sudden be unsuccessful.

Not sure how you got a reference to the WAC when I had mentioned Fresno State, San Jose State, and San Diego State in the previous message.
Conference aside, I was just fantasizing about having Bison games close to me occasionally in the future.

I don't think we're disagreeing. A CUSA or MAC conference schedule isn't that different than MVFC and won't move the needle. We can either have a useless OOC schedule that gives us a good record but no chance at CFP, or a tough OOC schedule that we're going to take losses in.

The panicked attitude is definitely a negative, and I'm glad our leaders aren't making a stupid knee jerk reaction.
We will move when the situation is right. This is a 20 year decision, not a 2 year jump until "something better" arises. Make the wrong move and you can be stuck like UMass and UConn. Its not something that can be forced either, the dominos have to fall our way. I do believe that will happen.

The “panicked” attitude of turning into UMass or UConn? For all the references to them as this cautionary tale, neither would trade places with NDSU. Maybe football programs but not if it came with everything else. I’m more “panicked” about ending up like Youngstown St. than UMass or UConn. I’m not sure being “stuck” like UMass or UConn is any different than being “stuck” like us in FCS.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
NDSU program will not fail in the FBS it will only get better.
NDSU program staying vs inferior programs will only decline.
combine that with declining attendance/attention & G5 spot in CFP opportunity makes this a no brainer.
we should all be LOCK STEP TOGETHER on this

Must not be a good feeling to be panicked about something completely out of our control. Regardless of what Chapo says a conference invite is not going to come easy with our geography. Being more panicked about becoming Youngstown st is hilarious. Youngstown is still a more thriving program than UConn or UMass even with some down years. Down years are inevitable for all teams, we are just lucky to have avoided them for the last decade!

To elaborate : with respect to football, UMass and UConn have two of the very worst football teams in all of FBS.
How they got there: these are "basketball first" schools that refused to be all sports in other Conferences (MAC, AAC) because they felt it harmed basketball.
So they weren't allowed to stay in those conferences and became FBS independent.
This pretty much destroyed their chances of having good football.
I think if they could trade places with NDSU for football they would strongly consider it over their current position.
They have been hoping/pleading to join a FBS conference, but are "stuck" in Indy status because even CUSA would not take them.
The lessons here are:
- Football only is not desirable for FBS conferences
- It is incredibly hard to succeed as an Independent FBS team without special benefits and/or huge $$$ like Notre Dame and BYU.
Pushing for FBS "at any cost" is incredibly risky and likely to land us in a FBS purgatory.
Even FCS schools were chosen over UMass/UConn - they are indeed stuck.

My point is I'm not anymore panicked about staying FCS than others are about becoming UConn or UMass. I have never insinuated that geography isn't an obstacle that NDSU faces. However, if we create an attractive enough package to present to a conference the geography won't be as large of an impediment. Creating an attractive package is within NDSU leadership's control to a large extent. That involves athletics, facilities, enrollment, academic profile, endowment, fanbase among other things. Some of those aspects have made improvements, others not as much. However, how the improvements all fit together is a bit murky to me. I have also stated that if FBS isn't in the cards and doesn't make sense then we need to adjust our ath. dept. business model so to speak and focus our athletic energies and investments to raise our overall University brand through our other sports rather than being so football centric. Your viewing my statement about Youngstown and UConn/UMass entirely through the football program lens. I'm viewing it from a much larger perspective. UConn and UMass, even with their struggles to find a home and stability with football, are Universities with a more attractive overall brand than NDSU currently and a whole hell of a lot more attractive than Youngstown State's brand ever has been. UMass/UConn>NDSU>Youngstown in terms of overall University brand.

Valid points and nothing there I disagree with. I'm not pushing for FCS at any cost and never have. I am pushing for leadership to show that they have a plan that makes logical sense when viewed as a whole. There is essentially very little reason for us to build a $50 million dollar practice facility that is almost entirely built with football in mind if our larger intent is not to get to FBS. It is an absolutely awesome facility and one that I'm sure will impress recruits who visit campus. It is impressive to me and something that as an alum makes me proud. That being said, building that facility essentially is us showing our hand. We want to go FBS. With attendance and fan engagement trending downward for a number of years now, why not be more vocal about the overall vision for our athletic department and what the "conceptual" roadmap is. Create some more excitement around the athletic programs by selling that vision to the larger public.

I think most people here are reasonable, but just a little frustrated we haven't been able to move yet. There are a handful of agitators who constantly push for "fbs now, no matter what" and that is what I'm referring to.
I think the fact that we just built a $50 million practice facility speaks volumes about where we are headed. It just takes longer than some would like for the trickle down of conference moves to open the door. MWC is most logical, but it's possible MAC will work also. Everything else is pretty unlikely, for good reasons.

I'm in the "FBS now no matter what" camp because I think that later it will be too late. There will be no more seats left when the music stops. Actually, it is probably already too late. Your "pause-and-consider-and-plan-for-20-year-conference-membership" approach can be summed up in one word: inertia. Or stagnation. You pick.
Some people who think it is time for FBS now used to deride and chastise people that thought it was time a few years ago. In another year or two, with no movement on this issue and no public declaration of NDSU's intent to make the move, you'll finally see the light and, in frustration, you will be clamoring for "FBS now no matter what". But you will likely have no self-awareness to remember this fan board conversation or prediction. And more importantly, your clamoring then will be as effective as my clamoring now. Which is to say, not effective at all.
