Our green is closer to the color of the turf, but the yellow would pop.

And in front of 11000 fans, double puke! I thought fans would be excited to play Boise, maybe Boise is losing their appeal…..

Bonus points if we can do a clear glow-in-the-dark overlay on top of the logo so it stands out during the intro

If they actually had 11k that’s pretty good for UTEP. Notice how when you watch any highlights from their home games, the cameramen are trained to not zoom out or pan above the first couple of rows during punts or high/long passes.
I saw they had a claimed attendance of 45k a few games ago and then you go to look at highlights and the end zone seating is closed, upper deck was closed and the bottom bowl is half-full lol. Pathetic

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Speaking of attendance. Who owns and operates the Fargo Dome? Does NDSU get a piece of the gate for the other events housed there? Does NDSU football have to pay to play there?

It's on NDSU land but owned and operated by the city. I believe the lease the land to the city for like $1 and get X dates for games each year.

Does NDSU get money from the other events on their land? Are they covered under your lease?

I believe the answer to this is no.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
The Fargodome has been a terrific investment for the city and NDSU got a great home stadium decades ahead of schedule.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Yes..It is a very nice home for the football team..

Re: A new and better FBS thread
More questions. I understand that fcs football can offer 63 scholarships..I believe they don't all have to be of the full ride variety. You can split them up between multiple players and have 85 players total if you choose. In FBS it is a 'requirement' that all football scholarships are full ride (one player each)
Are all your 63 scholarship football players receiving full rides without any split scholarships?
Were you to jump up to FBS, you could have 85 full ride scholarships?
You could add the 22 full rides to get to 85 but due to Title IX compliance wouldn't you also have to add 22 scholarships to women's sports as well? I believe they could be split but still total a full ride to match football.
Do you think your administration may be factoring these additional costs in their evaluation about moving up.?
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
NDSU football is very happy and just fine in division 2. I don't think they are going anywhere.

I believe we usually do have some split schollies so that 85 players have some $$. We also offer full cost of attendance too.
I personal believe having 85 full schollies won't be a problem.
Others on here know more than me but title IX doesn't force a scholarship to scholarship equality between men's and women's. It's something to do with having the same opportunity to participate in sports.

Correct that FCS is 63 among 85 people. We have split partials in the past, no idea what our mix is now. Funding a full 85 wouldn't be a problem. That price might be less than the salary increase for the Pres, FB HC, and MBB HC. I'm by far not an expert in Title IX, but we traditionally are one of the few schools that use the "3rd prong" of compliance. Basically we give our women's sports what they need to be successful instead of checking a box in an accounting spreadsheet. IMO this should be the standard prong as it encourages success. We could easily add women's tennis if we go FBS and that should take care of everything.
Also for the previous post, the Fargodome was built while NDSU was still Division 2 and over a decade before starting our D1 transition. We had a different Pres and AD when it was built and when we went D1, and I don't think the previous set ever even thought about jumping. It was an absolute palace in D2.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
One of the reasons the additional scholarships shouldn't be a problem is NDSU is well on the way to having ALL athletic scholarships covered by endowments.....and that hasn't even really been a focus yet (IPF, SHAC, etc.).
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
If NDSU had to add more scholarships for women's teams, would we have to add a new sport or are all teams not using the maximum number allowed by the NCAA.

I think we’re maxed out on the sports we have.

for all you NDSU FBS DOUBTERS.
JMU received 11 votes in the USA Today Sports AFCA Coaches Poll after beating App State 32-28 yesterday.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
JMU is for real. They could very well win their conference and be ranked at the end of the season.

Well yeah, G5 football simply isn’t that much better than the MVFC.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
I do not think G5 football is all that much better than the top 10 or 12 FCS schools, if at all. The FCS wins against the MW both help and hurt your cause.. If there are other competitive schools in the neighborhood or a large urban area they begin to look quite viable for expansion. For example..Sac State has 30 thousand students, a football stadium that has a capacity a bit over 20 thousand and is easily expandable. The Sacramento metro area is very large. They have a big airport and are within driving distance of several MW west schools.
Are they as good as you in football?..No, they aren't. Do they check a lot of MW expansion boxes?..Yes they do..Will they get an invitation? Most likely no.
.
However, I am still of the opinion the MW isn't looking to add, anyway..

Right. The only ones thinking the MWC is looking to add exist in this thread.

For the millionth f'ing time it’s not doubting FBS, it’s where….. Just think about the one significant advantage JMU has over NDSU. it won’t take long. JFC.

NDSU is better, NDSU has a bigger brand.

In the Midwest. And at the G5 level of football and conference alignment, the huge advantage JMU has (app state, GSU, etc) is the most critical by far.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
So, I’ve made peace with the fact that we are not moving to FBS anytime soon. I really have this time. At least, I think I have.
You know how after you apply for a job you really want, you convince yourself that you’re not going to get it so that you’re not disappointed? That’s where I’m at with NDSU to FBS. I’m convinced we are not moving up. And I'm no longer going to be baited into a frenzy by someone hearing a rumor that a phone call was made by some person related to another person who once had Matt Brown over for dinner during which they had a conversation about what the MWC might want to do. I don't care anymore.
I bought NDSU football season tickets this year. This was the first year they’ve been available to me in the past decade. When I signed up for them (at the urging of my wife), I was fairly convinced that we were going to be moving up with all of the realignment going on at the time. I wanted to make sure I had the tickets when we moved up, because I figured they’d sell out again pretty quickly after that.
Now, I’m already planning to not renew. There’s no way we are moving to FBS at this point. We needed to strike when the iron was hot. Conditions have never been better to move up than they were in the last round of realignment. We all knew that JMU would make the move at some point. But certainly if Jax State and SHSU could find a path to FBS, we could too. And we didn’t.
Now, with yet another budget crisis on campus, there’s no way that we make the move in this fiscally austere environment. Even though football funds itself, the optics would be too problematic to make a move up when the rest of campus is in hair-on-fire mode from a budget standpoint.
I hope NDSU remains successful in FCS. I suspect they will. I wish the team the best of luck.
Go Gophers!

I think I'm right there with ya prof. I watched the Arizona game but haven't really watched any of the other games. IDK if I will watch any others until the playoffs. Made plans to go hunting over watching the SDSU game. Judging by posts on here and the number of tickets for sale against SDSU ML and the Fargodome have some work on their hands. Also didn't realize homecoming was this coming weekend.

In relation to this I have been thinking this past week+ how crazy it is that there are still multiple posts in this thread discussing/arguing a move. What is there to talk about at this point?

I literally tailgated before the NCAT game and then went golfing. Didn't regret my decision for a second to just eat my tickets, game was a predictable borefest. I pretty much have zero interest of FCS football at this point, literally couldn't pay me to watch two teams not named NDSU play each other. I still love NDSU football but I would kill for some compelling games and storylines.

yep, still go to the frisco watch party every weekend. but at this point it's more for the beer, socializing with ndsu alums and grabbing lunch than anything
honestly the arizona game ruined me for a while, what a fun environment with a fan base and program that actually gives a crap
