Going to Pitt at Western Michigan tonight. G5 hosting a top 25 P5 team. Outdoor stadium that holds 30k (mostly bleachers). Tickets are $30 reserved and $15 general admission. No idea if they require a donation for good season tickets. Should be fun!. 6:30p CT kick on ESPNU

The constant ax grinding on the admin gets old.
Meanwhile, we've got the finest facilities in FCS, and they schedule every FBS game possible. I'm glad our admin is waiting for the right situation to emerge, and not panicking or spastically freaking out. Conference affiliation is a long term decision, not something you can change every 3 years. Choosing poorly could destroy the program that's been built over decades.
NDSU football is much better than that, and belongs in a quality conference. Our day will come.

Yeah but if he stopped his incessant ranting and raving about things he knows absolutely nothing about we’d stop getting nuggets like “we need BRASS balls of STEEL” lol
The worst part about lakes’ FBS rantings is that sensible people who are more hesitant to go FBS read his stuff and then project that onto the rest of the FBS crowd. His nonsense hurts the discussion way more than it helps.
Our admin probably should be panicking, not publicly though. We are staring down sub 15,000 attendance in the near future. I’m not advocating for anything crazy, I just think we’re in a place where we can tell the public that we are ready and looking to go. Our fan base would appreciate it, it would create more buzz and interest with the casual fans that aren’t going to the dome and tailgating anymore, and it would create conversation nationally. We have a ridiculous brand for a FCS school, lean into it.

This is where I’m at. I also think this idea that NDSU football deserves better than CUSA is a bit naive. CUSA is not a step down in most peoples eyes. It’s probably more realistically a lateral move that positions us for a step up later. The program is likely going to need to take a chance and bet on itself before a higher conference will take the risk to add us.
My position centers around evaluating the floor and the ceiling of FCS vs. FBS. Our floor in FCS I believe to be SDSU. In FBS I believe our floor to be Georgia Southern. I think both of those floors produce similar results in terms of fan engagement, attendance, excitement, etc. The ceiling in FCS is where we are now. The ceiling in FBS I believe looks like App St. or possibly more if the expanded playoff. In my opinion the upside of FBS tips the scales to taking the risk. It’s not a no brainer but I like to believe that there is more to achieve and aspire to.

Well, St Thomas got kicked out of the MIAC for this very reason.

CUSA a lateral move? LOL
You must not watch much football.
They have no fans and FIU damn near lost to Bryant, a scrub team even in FCS. Charlotte lost to W&M, and is leaving to move up to AAC.
They have basically two “ok” teams left, WKU and MTSU, and both of them want to leave.
I don’t understand the fixation on this crap conference, we are much more likely to get an invite to MAC or MWC anyhow.

The CUSA needs to show NDSU that it is viable past this year before we’d even pick up the phone for their call. I want FBS more than almost anything but being the next Idaho or UMass isn’t doing anything for us.

That’s your NDSU arrogance. The MVFC/Summit isn’t above them no matter how much you say it. It just isn’t. I’m not advocating for CUSA but it’s not a step down.

We wouldn’t be the next Idaho or UMass and we have to prove as much to CUSA as they have to prove to us.

We sure would be when the conference folds. Then we’d be back begging Patty V to let us back into the MVFC. With an irreparably damaged brand
If I have trepidation about it imagine what the suits think

As opposed to staying in FCS and meeting a similar fate? Not buying it. That’s fear mongering at its finest.

Lol okay so we join the CUSA starting next year. How much money are we getting from their media contract?
Fear mongering lol

How much are we getting from the MVFC/Summit? Seems lateral. I agree it’s not overly attractive but to act like our current situation is better is ridiculous.

like NDSU couldn't be independent in fcs if we went back. we subsidize the FCS. they all make money off of our name

We signed a 10 year $21.9M deal in 2020.
https://dentonrc.com/sports/c-usa-ad...d3d68b7f3.html
CUSA signed a deal in 2018 that gives around $400k per school.
One of those numbers is significantly larger than the other. CUSA's deal runs out soon and they haven't announced the new one yet. It'll probably be a lot worse.

I'd be very surprised if CUSA's contract doesn't say all new members must join their media deal.

I know a lawyer bro. We can come to the table with our own contract. That's how we roll. It's called swagger eh.

Sure. Again, I’m not sold or advocating for CUSA, I just don’t get the arrogance when our current situation isn’t any better.

CUSA and the MAC would be a step down. We would instantly have the best fan base in either league. MWC is the only conference that is worthy of NDSU

Bigger question do we still get to keep our own media contract that is much larger or do we have to give that up and take a 400k split instead?

You’re so right. That’s wildly different than how it is in the MVFC.

Waiting out lightning delays in the NV/Iowa game, I saw quite a bit of your game. That was the first time I had ever seen NDSU play. I was very impressed.

how about that crowd picture. NDSU would bring 5000-10000 for every MWC away game, you'd think the MWC would like that revenue in thier stadiums/towns

Do you understand it's not about wanting FCS? It's about what the best path for FBS is.
Also...no, NDSU won't bring 5K+ to every single MWC game.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
UCLA's attendance https://www.outkick.com/ucla-footbal...ma-crowd-size/
Proof that being FBS doesn't draw crowds if your fans don't care about the opponent.
FIU, NMSU, UTEP and JSU blowouts won't get people excited to attend.

I can't think of a single person here that doesn't want NDSU in the FBS. Only that a select few can't understand we have work to do to make non-football aspects more attractive to a conference, and that some aren't willing to kill the rest of the program to join a shitty conference on the verge of collapse.

You think you would send 5 to 10 thousand to Logan Utah? Laramie Wyoming? I don't think ether place has enough hotel rooms..Maybe you could stay in Salt Lake but that is about 90 miles of icy mountain roads to get to Logan. Plus, once you get there you are in Logan, Utah..Nevada has been playing USU regularly for 30 years and I have never had any interest in that road trip.
I have been to Laramie but only in the summer. I have been lucky enough to visit every MW city other than Logan.
I can't predict the future but I am reasonably confident I would not travel to Fargo.
Vegas, San Diego and Honolulu are fun visits. I could see 10 thousand going to an away game in those places.

Agree with all this. That would still be great.
