Hey they stomped Tennessee State last year 38-17 at the Liberty Bowl in front of 50,000. But hey, JSU is apparently a bad swac team.

Bad SWAC team, Good SWAC team... in Fargo the difference would be immaterial. But they got Dion, so that would be fun.

How many FCS teams get the #1 recruit in the nation?
They went 8-0 in conference play and appeared to improve
Their home games draw 50,000
Yet another strawman argument. I literally said not one part of that. JSU is not a good team. They're not exciting other than their media darling of a coach. They'd almost certainly finish last in the Valley if they went through the full meat grinder. Maybe they'll beat out WIU but that's not a good thing.
H&H against teams like EWU, Montana, Towson, Delaware, Weber, etc are far more interesting than JSU.

So fun going to road games at Towsen with 6k fans or Weber with 4k fans. We can watch them on FLO TV with student announcers and then win by 3 TDs while running out the clock the 2nd half
Dont get me wrong I love playing Montana and EWU but we only get them so often.
I doubt the current version of JSU would be last place in the Missouri Valley. Ten years ago pre Deon maybe

never thought NDSU would be thrown around to schedule a fucking SWAC team...wow
I dont care how many stars they recruited they suck

It would be best if the first half of a home and home was at their place.

Re: Deion Sanders rumored as HC at Jackson State
I think it would be good for college football if the best HBCU teams were better than they have been of late and I hope that they can get there.

We'd better set the buyout at several million in that case. We don't have a good history with people pussing out of the return game.

I don’t think NDSU should sleep on these guys.
The difference between good and really good is attitude, and willing to work a bit harder than the other guys to be the best.
They are picking up talent. And have swagger.
If Deion/Zimmer combo can get those kids to believe and work for it??
Keep talking bros. It’s all talk when we do it also.
Imagine Sam Houston. Only good. With good coaching. Lots of Taiwan Joneses.

I guess I'd rather imagine Indiana State. Who they're ranked next to in the Sagarin :)

Sagarin is typically pretty accurate but not when you have a weak conference and only 1 good team. They are an outlier. No other SWAC team has the #1 recruit in the nation and dozens of 4-5 star players who will develop over the next few years. How many SWAC teams hire freaking Mike Zimmer to be an assistant.
We would clearly beat them. We pretty much beat everyone including the #2 team in the Championship game. But at this point, we can't schedule anyone and I find it interesting.
-
Re: Deion Sanders rumored as HC at Jackson State
Hey good for these guys! They are attempted to step up and raise the level of competition in their conference. It sounds like everything we have been asking for in the whole division.

You sure this is the hill to die on? JSU isn't good. It looks like they want to improve and maybe they will, but right now they're just another SWAC team. In 2021 they lost to LA-Monroe(FBS in name only, 146 Sagarin), beat FAMU 7-6 who then got slaughtered in the playoffs by 124 SELA, and struggled against D2 Delta St. From the box score Delta turned over on downs at the 7 yard line with 5 seconds left. A TD would have tied the game. With how open the transfer portal is I'd be surprised if all these stellar recruits stay put once they see the reality of college football.

Depends some on the money and program prestige really.
If Texas Tech, UT or OSU step up with a big offer, they could be gone. They won't jump to SHSU or FIU though.
On the other side, supposedly JSU has some money rolling in too, and if your coaches have NFL connections, that might motivate them as well.
There's a lot more variables to this than just FCS vs FBS.
Deion does need to win though, or eventually top talent won't be as interested.

So you're saying you don't think a Deion Sanders and Brad Childress coached team with uber talent that is in the process of developing will someday become a good program. And you think theg will all leave. Ok

I'm not saying any program can't improve, just that JSU is solidly in the put up or shut up category right now. There's uncountable examples of a small number of great players not bringing a team success, and of great coaches bringing a team back from the ashes. We've never played them so I'm all for a single game in Fargo. If they play well we can talk about a home and home. Did you see the other thread about 2022 Sagarin rankings? While preseason polls are worth the paper they're printed on in the digital age, Sagarin dropped JSU over 50 spots from the 2021 final. That's not a good sign.

Depends on how much talent they get. IMHO, how good the worst player on the field is has to be as important as who the best player is. Much of NDSU's success is the ability put in a 2nd stringer without a big drop-off in talent for most positions so the starters can stay fresh through the whole game and long seasons with deep playoff runs.

Sagarin isn’t a poll it’s a computer algorithm. We know almost nothing about what the inputs are into its preseason ratings. I’m not saying it’s right or wrong about them. I’m saying there isn’t enough information
for me to have an opinion.

Give me a moment.
Oh- he has weighted values for seniority and numbers of similar “class-men” remaining together. Same team- higher value than talent. We have known that for a while. NDSU football was why he changed it.
That should tighten up what you have figured out so far.
Oh. And punting makes mathematical sense. Don’t make me attempt to PROVE it to you again. [emoji6]

Re: Deion Sanders rumored as HC at Jackson State
But it’s all in the weight of RANDOMIZED VARIABLES LIKE THAT.
I mean…. Wake up man. Learn some chaos theory.
Beep boop.
-
Re: Deion Sanders rumored as HC at Jackson State
More simply put.
Are numbers finite?
It’s kind of a glass half full if you believe in FINITE variables and predicted relationships.
Truth. Answers. Completion.
Can’t be found in numbers.
Except for 0 or 1. Alpha and…
Think about that shit for a minute dude.

Re: Deion Sanders rumored as HC at Jackson State

I think you know that I know Sagarin and Massey are computer based. While nothing's perfect, dropping 50+ spots is most definitely not a good sign. With how active you are in the Sagarin threads I assume you rightfully consider it a pretty good predictor.
If you want to take the angle of being technically correct is the best kind of correct, I didn't actually say Sagarin was a poll. Plus I directly stated preseason polls aren't very good.
Also, JSU is not a good team, at least until they prove otherwise. Burden of proof is on them.
