Who is NDSU’s "geographic rival"? If you say fighting hawks, that’s incompatible with FBS. There are only 800k people in ND, and UND already takes extra money from Bismarck to try to compete in FCS (because they are a hockey school and hockey is expensive). Two FBS schools from ND isn’t going to fly, precisely because of your second point
So if NDSU jumps without SDSU, they’ll have to create a new one. Apparently that's what we did when we jumped to FCS ...

Big time rivalries like this one?

It would be nothing like we've ever seen before, that's for sure.

Did you miss the part where the Big Sky waived their exit fee because they couldn't wait to get rid of them, UND dropped 4 sports, and has been near the bottom in nearly every sport since joining the Summit? I don't want NDSU to have any part of that.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
We certainly had a rivalry going with JMU and all that took was for them to beat us once when it counted. And prior to that we were starting to get a good rivalry going with Georgia Southern and they never beat us, just chickened out on a game and then had to come to the dome for a couple playoff games.

Incorrect once again. Rivalries can't be forced. Someday you'll get one right.
Not saying rivalries won't develop but it sure as hell won't be day 1. Takes 2 to tango.

Rivalries developed through FCS playoffs. Yes, those were fun. Season on the line being what made those.

More likely it was because no one wanted und and never did. Big difference but nice try on your part. I knew you'd come up with something.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
I could see Sam Houston. A bit of history there. They'd bring all of 100 fans to the Dome on a random Saturday.

And yet it happened. 100% indisputable historical fact. It's idiotic to repeat other's mistakes. I'm sure you're ignoring FAMU, Idaho, UConn, NMSU, UMass, Charlotte, Georgia St also. Plus those that didn't completely fail but have become irrelevant like Georgia Southern, ODU, South Alabama, Texas St, FIU, Florida Atlantic, etc, etc. Of course those are outliers and we'd have instant success.

I give up. You'll never understand and you sure as hell will never agree. You are just stuck with what we have and that's all you want.

So you agree that history matters. That's a good step. Don't for a second think I'm against FBS, I've said over and over what I think it'll take and what I'll support. The fact that I want what's best for NDSU instead of what's best for my ego seems to fall on deaf ears.

You are giving them WAY too much credit.
Take a look at the parking lot photo for their Montana St quarter final game here:
http://www.shsuoperationzulu.com
CUSA teams have horrible fan support in general, and bad football.

You point to SHSU as an example of how shitty CUSA is. That’s a fair point. Reality is they are leaving an FCS in which they have arguably been the second most successful program on the field behind the Bison over the past decade and their fan support is above average in the FCS. I’m not sold on CUSA but the current FCS doesn’t feel “safer” to me.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Think if valley city went FBS?
Probably a similar deal for NDSU. So.
Think about if that was a thing.

I think NDSU would be more likely to succeed than the average move-up but people pretending it would be a walk in the park are being either naive or really arrogant.
Comparing NDSU to most other move ups also seems a bit unfair. For better or worse, North Dakota is a unique place. No P5 competition nearby, no G5 nearby, etc. Basically the only game in town. Even if they became a middle of the pack MAC team, I think we could make it work. People like watching football. Tailgating. All that jazz.
I want NDSU to move up. I think basically everyone does at this point. Some are more risk averse, others are not. Not sure anyone has the answer, but I hope it happens in the next few years. The fanbase is going to atrophy a lot otherwise.

There's a chance it could regardless. MWC, probably not. Any other conference - no clue how that's going to move the meter with a large portion of fans (such as the generation not on bville).

me and 10,000-20,000 NDSU fans would want FBS over fcs and the boredom it has become.
look at all the tickets trying to be sold in the secondary market.
there is a HUGE segment of FARGO people and REGIONAL people that have completely given up on NDSU football. WE NEED THOSE BANDWAGON TYPES>
We need to keep the HYPE going. but you can't HYPE up any NDSU games anymore, sorry that's reality.
the SPARK that is needed for a 151-12 team is a MOVE UP TO FBS> period. end of story, else we are just gonna die a slow death.
250,000 population within 15 miles of Fargo now, there should be a SOLID 150,000 NDSU FANBASE or MORE

I would like to see the ESPN+ stats for new subscribers that noted “Ndsu bison” 7 years ago or whatever when they first got that deal.
Was still new enough that it asked me “why are you signing up for ESPN+ back then.
And that’s what I put down.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
I don't give a single damn about a regional partner, SDSU has no football ambition at all and UND is a hockey school. They want to be small time which is fine, our athletic vision is not going to allign with them. It is time to accept and embrace that reality, there is no point in waiting for them.

I think that's the debate, what is realistic and worthwhile.
Almost everyone would be on board with MWC, and there's a real chance PAC takes a couple of those schools later this year.
I'm fine with AAC, SBC, MAC also, though think MAC would feel like a lateral move, and might not create the same excitement or fan base growth.

There’s not a single conference we move to that’ll bring regular season atmospheres like SDSU. Book it.

250k and a huge portion cant stand NDSU or it’s fanbase.
You have witnessed the glory days of NDSU football.
20 year season ticket holder. Still love the bison but even if they were B12 it’s getting more and more difficult to not sit in a garage drinking beer with zero travel, etc. can barely give my tickets away anymore so you’re right about that.
Whoops.

Boise State would. San Diego State would. Especially with a champ game appearance on the line.
There’s probably no one in the MAC that ever would replace SDSU. But every other game on the home schedule would be an improvement.
Don’t forget that when we went to the Great West with SDSU people made the same case, that we had to go with UND because SDSU was a manufactured rivalry. UNI also turned out to be a great rival until they went 10 years straight without beating us.

Losing fans isn’t necessarily true. If I dont Feel like going to a game it doesn’t mean I’m not a fan. Definitely still follow the game and cheer on tv or radio.
Ain’t no guarantees with fbs either. All for it at this point but barely anything is going to change the way I “fan” either. And there’s plenty more in the same boat….thus the nearly 800 pages.

Disagree. They ain’t bringing the fans to fargo that SDSU does. And that’s what makes it awesome.
Embrace the rivalry. May never see it again.

I don’t know why SDSU can’t be a regular OOC game, at least for a time. They could be our one FCS game most years.
