I agree 100%. If the very unlikely invite to either the AAC or MWC ever happened I would have to think NDSU would be all over that with all sports.

Big 10 teams get F.U. money just from their TV deals. In 2018, I believe each team received over $50 million.

All you need is a few more years where the Big 10 gets left out of the playoff especially if it is at the expense of a couple of SEC teams. If the BIG 10 gets pissed and leaves, the whole thing starts to fall apart.
