$382.70 divided by two is $190 per student per semester
We're not pricing anyone out by catching up with all of the peer institutions that Sic listed. Apparently as of yesterday the fed gov't is interested in bankrolling ridiculous education expenses anyways...
I think I found where your add'l revenue can come from to keep away your scary increase in expenses ;)
Maybe it will go better than last time the athletic department came to the NDSU Student Government trying to get a fee increase where they fell flat on their face in the initial meeting?
Eventually the two sides negotiated that the students would give up some additional seating at football games but there would be no increase in fees, thus getting the athletic department the money they were looking for, just in a different way.
What, outside of some hypothetical different conference that doesn't have any of NDSU's regional rivals in it, are they going to offer to the students that will convince them to toss a few hundred dollars each extra back to the athletic department? I doubt they are going to want to give them some seats back and lose those prime donations/ticket revenues.
As it relates to UND, the students voted to increase their student fees to help fund the move to D1. And as it relates to the other schools people are tossing around as other potential candidates to move to D1, UND is in line or less subsidies for their athletic department. Maybe the NDSU student body would feel the same way if the right scenario landed in their lap?

Watching you continue to be so certain about something that has zero guarantees is entertaining. And I'm not even pretending UND is or isn't doing anything, just that there is going to be a massive shake-up and no one knows how the fall out will land.

How does uncertainty in the conference landscape today validate ML's approach of doing nothing on the FBS front for the past 6 years?

Couldn't afford it until recently, and DB didn't want to. That's what changed

Okay. Maybe. We'll see, I guess. I'm okay putting most of the past blame on Bresciani, although I don't think ML expended any effort to convince DB otherwise. I still think it was a huge mistake not to make a public push for FBS after beating Iowa. Everyone in media and in college football fandom wanted it to happen. If we had wanted it to happen, it would have.

I love how some people's unsubstantiated theories on why we haven't jumped are taken as gospel while other people's unsubstantiated theories get them labeled FCS Forever.

Don't care about NDSU football? I've said I can't get to games because I have children in HS activities that make it difficult. That has nothing to do with "not caring."

Oregon sports guy obviously FCS forever.
I've been told if we hurry up and take the lowest hanging fruit it's the best.

Not sure a sports write/radio personality has any better insight on any of this than anyone else.

I'm guessing he has a better understanding of the landscape of college football than the green and yellow blinders on this message board, just sayin'.

Don’t know if you noticed, but I only bring it up when you and your ilk come around
But since you’re here, tell me who is better positioned and more deserving to jump up, NDSU or UND
... and for the record, I am confident that NDSU will be in a higher CFB division in the near future. This is based on the reality of what NDSU has become in FCS, as well as what I hear and read coming out of our own administration and elsewhere. I'm also confident that you won't be joining us

There is no "deserving". There's "right place right time" and "is the juice worth the squeeze" --> Do you fit the current needs of a conference, the profile, so you're worth the invitation.
One man's opinion (your mileage may vary):
- The common problem of each is dollars: I figure it's $3-5 million increase in annual budget to make the step up for either. Say what you will, that's a big annual number for either. And that only gets you to "median MAC" level. Both donor groups would be asked to shoulder an ever growing funding load. And this is in an "NIL" world that's already calling for money. ($100 million athletics endowment at 4% annually gets the $4 million needed, otherwise it's constant churn fundraising for the budget.)
- UND's main roadblock: The "15k" FBS rule if it is still in play in the future; however, the MAC has shown there are "creative" ways around that. But it's real. It would require a plan going in, and maybe "home" games at alternate sites or a facility expansion.
- NDSU's main roadblock: As I am told here, you're fully funded, so no space to add women's grants to balance new men's FB grants. That probably means add a women's sport. Again, achievable.
Late edit: One more common roadblock --> an invitation.

Well considering you are trying to raise money for bubba on the SS, I don't think you can talk about funding. I mean really, when the SS has to hold bake sales to fund the football team, that's getting pretty low.

ok....."bro". Way to add a relevant point. Actually it is about as likely as a MWC invitation. But one can't say that 'round these parts. Reality is a bitch. Keep dreaming "bro"

In relation to the SKOLdiers, I'm the realist. Paper suberbowl champs every season. Then reality hits.
Real similar to this conversation. Sucks to hear the truth.

I bet your family loves the nights out at the Applebees. You know it’s mediocre at best but damn the risk of trying something new is just terrifying.

Ahhhh...personal shots. Good stuff. Classy. I know it sucks you can't find an obvious FBS conference that makes sense (geographically, financially, competitively) but you didn't have to go for the throat like that. The internet really hurts.

Struck a nerve?
I understand realism. I just don’t understand your constant need to shit all over everything. The reality is that you don’t know anymore than anyone else here. You play the pessimist so if NDSU doesn’t move you can say you were right. Cool. I guess I’m more interested in intelligent discussion. There are people in this discussion who believe similar to you, however they also acknowledge that there is a path to FBS right now. They just don’t think it’s wise. Your stance is…well i don’t know what your stance is other than to be an eternal pessimist about any scenario brought up.

I don't give a flying fuck if I'm right or wrong.
Where is the path to FBS right now that's intelligent? I haven't seen it posted here that's for sure. MWC? MAC? Not happening right now, it's just painfully obvious. CUSA? Dumpster fire. What then?

I mean both the MW and MAC make sense financially and competitively. Geography is the last piece. The MW is running out of other options if they get put in a position where they want to expand.

I didn’t say I agree with the path but CUSA is there. Whether MWC, MAC or AAC is interested or feasible is up for debate. You have your opinion, others have theirs. Some of us like to try other things than settle for the 2 for $20 deal.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
I guess maybe I should wake up tomorrow and say "holy shit today's the day!" and be super optimistic. "OMG they're optimistic on bisonville guys, we need to jump to the CUSA asap."
Pessimism. Realism. Call it what you want. Forums are designed for opinions until it doesn't align with what you wanna hear I guess.

Yeah. Today...it's not up for debate. 2 years from now when college football and those conference look completely different? Absolutely.

Maybe you’d be happier ;)
I do find it funny though when people come to this thread, or the Wentz/Lance threads for example, and are somewhat abrasive with a dissenting opinion and then wonder why they aren’t very popular lol.
If there was a “NDSU should not be pursuing an FBS invite” thread, I just wouldn’t go there. I don’t trust myself to not cause a bunch of trouble.

Right? That’s the entirety of my point. So you don’t believe there is a viable path to FBS. Cool. Why engage with people that do?

They’ll probably respond something about echo chambers being unhealthy. Which is a point. But the only thing you need to do to break the echo is respectfully state your opinion. Going in and calling people idiots or unintelligent does nothing but strengthen the resolve of the other side.

I do believe NDSU will be FBS. It just ain't happening until the dominos of college football start collapsing. And when that happens I don't think being in the shit storm CUSA is a better place than the MVFC.
Also, what's wrong with other opinions?

There really isnt another side. Just different opinions on whats best for the program, when and how to get there.

I agree. I haven’t responded much to this thread lately because I feel like I’ve shared my opinion and there isn’t much more to add. I can understand both sides. There isn’t an obvious clear answer. Realism would actually be stating something similar to that. Daddy Daycare isn’t a realist, he’s a pessimist at least as it relates to an FBS move. If he was a realist he would acknowledge that.

Should we be actively doing something or just waiting? Two sides, it’s what the last 100 pages of this thread are about.
