Maybe, maybe not. Selected teams from last year's playoff rankings that would not be in a 12-team playoff
13 BYU 9-2
21 San Diego State 10-1
22 UTSA 11-0
24 Houston 10-1

man, I wish they had given bids to every FBS conference champion (10), and two at larges. Just think how that would have leveled the playing field and made college football more interesting.

Re: FBS move fans. Here's a good read
The P-5 or P-3 however that works out will be playing with themselves (heh, heh) and one win by a G5 team over a P* team won't be enough to get you into the top 12.

I’d say let’s go 13-0 with a Mountain West championship and a win over a ranked P5 and let’s see if we make the top 12 ;)

Whale of a conference Scott. It’s a whale of a conference.

The current AD and management is like a Black&White TV in a digital world. They just dont connect with reality. All the good teams in FCS are gone , they have moved on to FBS. Now we are playing D3 teams, like Williams & Marys & St.Thomas & Bemidji.

That's false. AD is very aware of what is happening, they just don't go around making everything public. Not me, but there are several people on this board who are aware of behind the scene moves/prepartions that are taking place.

Of the three teams he listed, one is D2 and another was FCS long before we were lol. We have played neither in the D1 era in football. Tells you about all we need to know…

William and Mary just stomped Charlotte, one of the CUSA schools that is moving up.
What does that say about the weaker ones left behind?
CUSA will be like the NEC of FBS, but without an autobid or any remote hope of at large either.

Imagine a similar idea in FCS and how awful it would be.

Are there still people around here that think NDSU should stay in FCS? You cannot be serious.

Not really mainly just some that say we should not join a crappy conference like CUSA out of desperation. If MWC came a calling I’m not sure I could name anyone that would be opposed to joining.

This would never happen. Only chance would be if you expanded the field to 16. At 12, you are keeping teams who could genuinely compete for a title at home while letting in the 9-4 MAC champ.
At 16, at least then you are saying "OK, champs plus teams who can compete."

As usual you are clueless.

as usual, you resort to insulting a person instead of actually countering their viewpoint with an actual argument.
here's your chance, the argument part of their statement is as follows:
'All the good teams in FCS are gone , they have moved on to FBS. Now we are playing D3 teams, like Williams & Marys & St.Thomas & Bemidji.'
please provide a counter argument instead of just calling him clueless.
I'll help. To posterize this schmuck, all you you have to do is make a case that shows that most, or at least many 'good fcs teams' have chosen to stay, and how we should be excited to play teams like W&M and St thomas, who was D3 as recently as 2 years ago. Obviously he is joking about Bemidji, so dont waste your time there.

They won't do it at 16 either, they would go with 8+8 most likely.
That would increase the odds for MAC, but not CUSA teams.
At 8 autos, they would need to beat out at least one of MWC, AAC, and SBC champs.
A 12-1 MAC champ might do that, a 9-4 one wouldn't.
The top conferences won't accept any more autobids without also expanding the at-large bids for themselves.
It's not even clear they would go to 8+8, it might stay at 6 conf champs, and just add more at-large.
The P5 conferences have all the power and leverage here, and can just walk away.
We simply are not going to see a world where all 10 FBS conferences get autobids in the next 10 years.

I'd go even further and say that no matter how big the playoff field will be, all the Power conferences get an autobid, top G5(or whatever number it becomes) gets one, and all the rest are at large and almost certainly all from Power conferences. There is no requirement to have as many at large as autobid, despite what some people claim.

Idk. The bigger it gets the harder time they have justifying keeping out smaller conferences. At some point they'd probably risk Congress getting involved. "You keep making this bigger without expanding access."
I dont think it will get bigger than 12 anytime soon anyway. There will be seasons where a couple teams sneak in probably.

Go take a look at who congress met with recently on topics like NIL.
Believe it was Sankey and Bowlsby (SEC/B12). Big money gets the voice in congress.

I don't think its an NCAA sponsored playoffs. I suspect they can do whatever they want.

This is entirely possible, and it wouldn't shock me.
If a future expansion to 16 occurs, the BEST case scenario is 8 conf champs and 8 at large.
The power conferences will not accept an expansion that doesn't give them more at large slots.
I also don't expect that expansion to happen quickly. They will stay at 12 for at least 5-10 years.
