Of course it is. They are so well known that they get more money than other MW schools do for the TV contract. Bar room discussion in Dallas isnt an indicator of relevance

“The fact that they’re an afterthought on the national level has no bearing on whether they’re an afterthought on the national level.”
Lol everyone knows that Boise State exists. Most probably know that Boise is the biggest program in the MW. That doesn’t mean they aren’t an afterthought. How much time do you think the average CFB fan spends thinking about Boise State in a given year? That is the definition of afterthought?
Lord give us some realignment news tomorrow please…

Either is you talking or not talking about USC at your tailgate.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Except they aren't true. We went to the watch party in the Seattle area for the first game at Minnesota and every employee in the bar was wearing a Nebraska jersey because it was the bar for Cornhusker games and theirs was just ending when our game was starting.

Once the PAC (inster number of teams here) raids Boise State and whomever else, NDSU can join the newly formed MWC with the Montanas and Cal Davis and ride the G5 train into whatever crap bowl games are left...and college football realignment will be complete will the big boys and the nobody cares....

Sure why not. I'm sure a November home game with a 3-4 loss team will draw straight electricity.

I've never considered any MVFC team farther away than Northern Iowa as a rival in the D-I era.

And northern iowa is a rival more so because their fans and HC are asshats and that one guy punched pat paschal and less because of geography.
Yes, a transition to FBS would require building up new rivalries. Honestly I think that would be the best thing for the program at this point. Let's get some new blood in here.
One of our two rivals in FCS hasn't beaten us in over 10 years and the other focuses so much on trying to beat us they drop a bunch of other games throughout the year.

Hard to form rivalries without being pretty close. The only national ones I can think of are Notre Dame ones and those are outliers (national alumni/fan base).
I only look forward to UNI games because I associate turn with being good. If you offered me tickets to go see NDSU play 2-4 UNI i wouldn't go.
In contrast, I'd be more than happy to go see games vagainst bad or mediocre UND/SDSU teams.
It would be nice to have one or a few potential rivals move up along with NDSU to have a couple built-in "meaningful" games regardless of record.
I would agree that the best options are the Montana's or SDSU.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Is "vagainst" a troll on UND and SDSU? If yes, major kudos.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Boise State isn't the Boise State you remember..They get a bit more from the tv revenue based upon a deal the negotiated 10years ago..The do not get the extra dough from the tv deal..The MW schools pay it..They threatened to sue when the the conference decided not to give them the extra. After 2026 they will be back to an equal share..
The big dog in the MW is San Diego State these days..Once they go into their brand new football stadium this fall they will be head and shoulders above the rest of the conference..They have a fabulous basketball arena too..

Exactly, when is the last time Boise has been in a big nationally televised game? 2014 fiesta bowl? Seriously I remember watching big their games but I can’t remember the last time I did in the last few years. I still don’t think they are getting into the PAC12 unless they get R1 status.

I agree with others that it would be nice to be in a conference with one or more of Montana, MSU, SDSU.
Have no interest at all in attending games against schools like SFA and Tarleton, though SHSU fans are hoping for this, and they seem next on deck for CUSA.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
I don't think the Pac 10 will add anybody. I don't think the MW will add anybody either.

Agreed 100% with SDSU and the Montanas. I hope when the move goes down they are with. Regional rivalries are a necessity in college sports.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
It looks like Oregon and Washington may not be taken by the B12 due to geography concerns
https://www.heartlandcollegesports.c...graphy-report/
I see this as a good thing. If the other 4 PAC schools move to the B12, I think PAC looks to backfill, and that could create a cascade to MWC. The PAC won’t fold if it has Washington and Oregon.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Our window permanently closed for FBS transition in 2036 which is when the ACC GOR expire. There will be major upheaval at that point with massive consolidation into a P2 set up. That means we need to be fully transitioned by then with a proven track record of winning at the FBS level. We will also need our football facility situation figured out before that point. That realistically gives us a decade to get the above done which is a short time line considering ND politics.
All of this realignment will almost certainly bring about a true G5+ national championship which is a perfect fit for us. I hope we have the right leadership in place because it's going to take some vision and mega $$$ to get it done.

Personally, I feel like the NoDak IPF complex is hard evidence they are putting the building blocks in place now. These things take time to develop and openings to occur, but our leadership is positioning us to move when the time is right. The biggest challenge is fixing or replacing the Fargo Dome long term.

How many times does it half to be said. It has nothing to do with on field performance and everything to do with mading money from your media market.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Since we're apparently rehashing tired old arguments, let's not forget why we haven't gotten an invite yet.
Our geography sucks. Nothing we can do about that.
Enrollment has dropped every year since 2014, from an already low number. That's a really, really bad thing we need to(and can) reverse.
MBB is nothing special. Conferences love MBB teams that win extra units in March Madness.
You want an invite? Get our own house in order first.

Enrollment is on the NDUS for building an unsustainable system. As I’ve said all along, you need to look at the enrollment of the entire NDUS, since there will only be one FBS team representing it, and that team will be the Bison

Enrollment is good enough but we need to start growing again. Other schools are doing it, but most are not

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Geography is a STRAWMAN
once again we have to explain..
if NDSU is in MWC. that's 5 freakin flights to Fargo when they are ALREADY flying to Laramie/Boise/Ft Collins...
so 1.5 hours farther on a plane every other year. that's NOTHING
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Regional rivalries are how college sports thrive. Professional sports. HS sports. All sports. Figure it out.

There goes half the G5 then.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
SDSU admin says they want to be at the “2nd level of CFB”, so they can start by striving to be at the 3rd, and follow us up to FBS to be our regional rival.

If it's an issue for Washington, Oregon, and the Big 12, then it's at least somewhat of an issue for us also. The exception being if a football only invite were available, which most conferences don't want. MWC seems like our best bet in terms of both geography and the possibility of football only membership. The MAC pushed UMass out because they wouldn't join for all sports. SBC pushed out their basketball only schools.
Quote:
Dodd reported: “The Big 12 has been told by TV rights advisors that the two most important considerations for expansion are brand and geography. Geography pushed Oregon and Washington to the margins. (That doesn’t mean the likes of Arizona and Arizona are necessarily “brands.”)”
There’s no doubt that any trip to Eugene, Oregon and Seattle, Washington are lengthy treks from Orlando, Morgantown, Cincinnati and frankly most of the Big 12 schools. And while it could be justifiable for football, how difficult does it get for a Monday night basketball game, never mind a cross country meet or volleyball match?
