Re: A new and better FBS thread
There might be just 12 teams left in both of those conferences to merge into one. :)

If my prediction is correct (and I in no way have a crystal ball) they won't be getting games & paydays from the B1G or SEC either.
Of course, I could be wrong here too, and the Big XII might actually absorb the best of the PAC 12, but even there I don't see NDSU making the cut (even though I've long thought that the BigXII was the right/ideal spot geographically for NDSU to land)

You overvalue the relevance of G5 in the current state of NCAA athletics. There ya go.

What’s the relevance of FCS is the current state of NCAA athletics?

Re: A new and better FBS thread
What should happen and what will happen aren’t necessarily the same thing. It’s possible that the Big2 will try their best to lure the entire FBS subdivision away from the NCAA, and they certainly have the $$ to do so. Why? Because the P5 dregs/G5 (with their own playoff under the NCAA banner and an amateurish approach) could end up being a higher quality product than the NFL junior league. It’s more what we know CFB to be. Food for thought …

I think all the FBS conferences are leaning towards taking football only out of the NCAA.

That's what I think too. As a G5 guy, how do you feel about that? I think many of our fans don't understand why you would want to be associated with them.

NDSU? Quite relevant. If it weren't this thread wouldn't exist. Create a list of G5 football programs and let me know where NDSU fits. Probably up there aways despite the "labels.". Thanks.

Well a more accurate comparison would be to compare a list of best G5 schools to a list of best FCS schools. Not comparing the all-time hands down best FCS school with a random assortment of G5 schools.
It’s just like people that say we shouldn’t move up because the best of FCS schools are already competitive with G5. But it’s US. WE’RE competitive with G5 schools. Take us out (or move us to G5) and it looks completely different.

This. NDSU is an outlier in FCS.

I didn’t ask what NDSUs relevance is.

We are already associated with the other FBS schools. The NCAA is no friend to G5 football either.. There is no reason to just cede everything to the big boys..

Looking at last year's Sagarin ratings I was surprised to see 13 G5 teams in the top 60.

I'll repeat what I said earlier, that Daddy Daycare cant seem to grasp.
G5, as an entity, is so far beyond the FCS as a level. a clear step above to anyone with eye balls and 2 brain cells to rub together.
However, the G5 is not in a different stratosphere than NDSU. NDSU has ascended higher than any FCS program ever. That was NDSU's doing, not a credit of the FCS. We are the only one to do this. We are the exception, not the rule. we belong with those other 13 schools far more than the top 13 schools of the FCS if youre comparing anything of importance: Fan engagement, on field success, financial commitment to success, booster support, endowment, facilities, espn exposure etc etc etc.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
FBS is still FBS and that's a HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE difference in Public Perception and always has been and in Recruits Perception's as well.
NDSU getting in the G5 helps NDSU tremendously and nationwide legitimizes NDSU Football ... because lately we've been the "aww rub that lil doggy on the head, he's so cute cuz he dominates fcs"

NDSU is a G5 program stuck in FCS by circumstance. May those circumstances go straight to hell in the very near future
Most of FCS (yotes and crying doves an exception, for some odd reason) don’t even want us, while FBS schools think we’re too soft and scared

It's tempting to assume this, but I don't believe you are correct. There will still be multiple tiers, and FCS will be officially 3rd (unofficially 4th). I think it would good for ND for The Bison to be FBS and you guys to be FCS, assuming you can afford it. After we leave, it should be less of a problem for you, because the bar will drop significantly. Heck, you will have an opportunity to compete once we're gone ... Friday smack. NDSU board after all ...

Yeah, probably, whatever. NDSU is never going to be in that P2 top tier. Bottom line though they need some fresh meat. FCS has been beaten to a pulp and there's nothing left. Even if moving up is second or third tier, whatever, we need fresh meat for the grinder.

It's been that way homie. SEC, top quarter of the B10, Clemson, OU and maybe ND. Literally every other school for 10 years has been an afterthought.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
An afterthought? I would say that is nonsense..Is NDSU football just an afterthought with your fans? I don't understand why you would just dismiss the vast majority of schools ..Do you think their fans are stupid to keep following their teams, year after year..

We’re talking nationally, bud. No need to get offended. Nobody in Texas here cares about NDSU or any MWC programs.
They know about them, but they’re an afterthought.

I think that's taking it pretty far. Of course every school has their fans. NDSU is the most successful FCS program ever and our media contract is a rounding error compared to the big boys. Look at all the exposure just the talk of the Power conference realignment is generating. Like it or not, USC/UCLA moving to B1G and Notre Dame considering it is a bigger story than everything NDSU football has done in history.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Agreed..But to label everybody as an afterthought is not even close to accurate..

In comparison to the P2, and all the self-generated media they can create, what would you call everyone not P2?
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
I call them college football teams..
As far as I know, there no football only conferences so to be fair I will refer to them as Athletic Departments.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
So..... the conversation has devolved into semantics again. I take it that there's really nothing new to share?!?

Ask the typical fan of P5 team to name 10 G5 schools and their mascots and I doubt many could. I'm drawing a blank for most of the MAC and CUSA teams.

just the chaos of teams switching conferences, this should trickle down we hope
I can name every FBS team, as most FBS fans could. I've been a FBS fan since day 1. and it's been 15 years since 2007 and NDSU 1st Gopher game with 60,000 fans.... with our success in 2011-2014 we should've parlayed our success instead of just trophy chasing

The guy who posted that isn’t an NDSU fan. He's a UND fan
But he does have some decent points both afterthought is not accurate. Most people dont consider Boise an after thought

Boise State is absolutely an afterthought. I’ve lived in DFW for 8 years, college football Mecca, and not one person has ever mentioned Boise State. Ever.

Nobody in NC cares about USC.
Nobody in Texas cares about Ohio state
Nobody in Florida cares about Nebraska
Nobody in Idaho cares about Clemson
Nobody in DC cares about Oregon
Nobody in SF cares about Texas
Nobody in Dallas cares about Boise
See how easy it is to make blanket statements!

I bet nobody in Dallas ever metioned the Jacksonville Jaguars, Seattle Seahaws or half of the NFL teams to you either. Just seems like a weird random thing to discuss wirh strangers
But ive been tailgating for a decade and USC has never come up either. Maybe a few Big Ten teams we were playing

I don’t know what point you’re trying to make lol. Other than being completely wrong about the relevant schools.
I didn’t say no one cares, I said no one in 8 years has ever brought up Boise state. Clemson, Ohio State, Bama, Georgia, Oregon get mentioned monthly during FB season by people who aren’t fans of those schools.
DFW is crazy about college football. Women arguing about recruiting classes level of crazy. No program outside the top 10 (or schools based in TX) gets much recognition unless something outstanding happens. Therefore, we’re all an afterthought. Sorry

Of course the NFL teams get brought up. There’s too much parity and not enough teams for them to get forgotten. I think you guys forget how football crazy Texas is. Even then the G5 don’t get mentioned unless there’s a smartass comment about last night’s MACtion on a Wednesday morning.
Thanks for proving my point. USC has not been relevant and therefore hasn’t been brought up. Ohio State, Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, etc. all get brought up when I go back to ND for tailgating.
-

Can someone please explain what we're arguing about and what side I should be on?

I've never heard anyone discuss Ohio State during a tailgate. The only teams that are discussed are the Vikings, Packers, Gophers, SDSU, UND, and whatever FBS game is on our furture schedule. Maybe JMU or Sam Houston every once in a while. Nobody here really gives a shit about Bama
