That is what happens when you go first on something big, you get to make it into a huge deal and people will make it into one.
They never would have done it if we hadn't, they all know it but are too prideful to admit it. Which is fine.

Someone forgot to tell Brock UN_ isn't a rival... Someone here want to clue him in before we all disown him? /purpleQuote:

Found this in an article on the ncaa.com website.
(Thomas, Lennon, Schweigert were football coaches at UND).
But Thomas and his staff, which by then included eventual coaching successors Dale Lennon and Bubba Schweigert, along with then-assistant coach Rob Bollinger, designed a plan to recruit and develop players to counter the Bison's vaunted, run-oriented veer offense, as well as to develop a passing attack of their own. "We worked hard at recruiting," Thomas said.
A reason why the UND game should be just another game. In the early 1990s UND started recruiting and developing players so it could beat the Bison. In other words, to be best in ND. As some of us have argued ... wrong perspective for NDSU. The goal of NDSU is to be strong at a national level, to be able to compete against a variety of offensive & defensive schemes. If NDSU starts making it a priority to defeat UND, rather than a priority to be strong nationally, it will harm NDSU's competitiveness. Part of the reason I don't like this so-called rivalry. I think the numbers speak for themselves - NDSU 12, UND 1.

Seeing how some fans are already fed up with their first Bison-**** week makes me think I got off easy having to deal only with my co-workers and the main stream media when it came to this game for most of my life. Internet and social media probably would have made it unbearable when we played every year and had playoff implications.
It is interesting how this year the Bison play probably their three biggest "rivals" three straight games in a row.
The Good: SDSU
The Bad: UNI
and the Suckey: UND
No mention of the big game in Denver. Whioux free weekend here.

Timmerman is Back... Mr Personality Chris "the rock" Berg didn't get a rose :(
Definitely a nice recruiting tool. It will also be used for more than just football. It should be beneficial for Track and Field in the spring. I'm pretty sure Phase 2 of the IPF project is supposed to add a bunch of offices as well, but I really haven't read into it too much. I would definitely like to get up there and see it sometime though.
Does the IPF equate to 4 straight championships? Of course not. Is it a nice facility to show recruits on campus? Sure. Is it beneficial for a program? Sure. Will programs without an IPF cripple? Of course not. Its a nice thing to have, but it needs to be put in perspective.
A couple things to keep in mind about why this is a big game. It is not just the renewal of a in-state rivalry game with a lot of history behind it. That part is fun, and adds to the interest, but lets looks at the game for what it is. Many people on this board have said this is just another game, and to a point they are very correct.
It is just another game the Bison don't want, or expect, to lose. Just like they wouldn't want, or expect, to lose to any other team on their schedule. That's where the program has gone over the past several year, NDSU just doesn't expect to lose. Doesn't matter if it is UND, UNI, K-State, etc. BUT with a loss to MT already in the books, the team really does not want to drop a game, especially a game that should be a win (regardless of it being against UND). 1-2 would just not be acceptable with where that program is at, and would certainly put more pressure on the team going forward.
For UND, there is obviously a ton of hype being built up about the rivalry, way more in the GF media than the Fargo media, because this is a bigger game for UND. UND has way more to gain in this match up. Even if this wasn't NDSU, it would still be a big match up. If we had Coastal Carolina on the schedule, it would be huge. Any time your program has an opportunity to play the best, your team needs to be pumped about it (If you ever want to be the best, you need to play the best). From an FBS level, we saw that a few weeks ago, when the Gophers got to play TCU, in what was an entertaining game where the Goofs just killed themselves.
Ultimately, there are rivalry implication, there could be some recruiting implications; but overall the teams should, and probably are, prepare for this game like they would any other game. NDSU needs to go out and play their game, just like they did against Weber. UND needs to go out, and understand they are playing top tier competition, execute the game plan and limit mistakes.
Win, Loss, Route or be Routed ... Saturday should be fun.
UND needed to recruit to beat the Bison, not only to be best in ND, but to be best on the National level. Obviously the game was big, but they knew if they couldn't beat the Bison, they weren't going anywhere on the big stage as well. Kind of like SDSU now. They want to beat the Bison not only for the rivalry, but they know they will get them in the first round of playoffs every year, so they have to be able to beat them to be nationally relevant.
Why should the whoiux care about this game after all it's just jv football
Anybody seen a two deep for the Whiox for this week?
I live in Grand Forks, and I go to hockey games to pass the time until football season. If I get free tickets.
Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere -- a certain Bisonville member got a little ink... :)

In late August, former UND football player Vern Lysford talked to the team. A big part of his message focused on the UND-NDSU rivalry.

“He told the team that feeling that you get when you walk into the stadium is a feeling that you’re never going to get again because it is indescribable,” Arnell said.

Different quick tailgating question. There will be many fans tailgating without game tickets, how strict are the "rules" around tailgating end 30 min before kickoff and if you are in the lots you will be asked to leave the lots? Thx
Kelly Green is butt ugly. What is the original und nickname or mascot?

Ok thx, roll herd!
I think we (Bison) may be in trouble this weekend... Story on WDAY sports last night said the Pioux have been practicing inside AND outside in preparation for this game! Cranking the noise up in the shed to prepare for the noise in the dome Saturday! F it! I'm stayin home now!:biggrin:
I don't know what I am going to do with myself tomorrow...no flight to track.
Might as well narrow that spread right now. In lieu of this new information I promise not to make any jabs if the Bison would prefer to just forfeit. OR maybe the instead of being really loud, the dome should just go silent when UND is on the field ... you know, just to throw our guys off.
Is that so bad? If you were a recruit wouldn't you want to know a team is scheduling competition? Rivalry and History aside, what looks better on UND's schedule ... NDSU or Stony Brook?
Now I'm sure when they pitched it, they probably did make a point of it having been an in-state rival, but I don't see anything wrong with pointing that kind of stuff out to a recruit. Especially when you have a new coach, who is rebuilding a program. Bubba can hardly point at the trophy case and say, "look at those 4 championships we just won". Most schools don't have that luxury, so you play other cards; scheduling, play style, IPF, education, etc.
Listened to part of Kleinsasser interview with Jack Michaels. Wow, didn't realize how much we have been missing out on as Bison fans by not playing und. Talk about living in the past.
Bubba to recruit: 'why would you want to win championships when you can come here and have a chance to play against a championship team'. much more appealing.
Makes sense to me.
