What makes you think all sports at NDSU belong in a mid-major conference?

this is driven by football. NDSU's a top 3 footbll program in the AAC on Day 1, with a nationally recognized brand.
Also I think Track and Field would have somethign to say on this matter.

It was there academics. It was a store house of knowledge academically and world renowned in medical and scientific research as well. Not to mention a huge alumni base and endowments and the academics and research the rest of the schools in the conference can tie in to.
If you want to get in to a good FBS conference you better bring more than a football team to the table.
Penn State would have never gotten a whiff without football

NDSU is already in the second best conference in wrestling. However, being in the AAC wouldn’t effect them either way.

NDSU does pretty well in the mid major conference its already in.
You really going to make the case that football wouldn't thrive in the AAC?

Reading comprehension is a good thing. Where do I mention football? Your post said, "all sports" belong in a high mid-major conference.

Re: FBS move fans. Here's a good read
7-8 conference games per year. The closest team we have to the AAC conference is either Cincinnati, or Tulsa. Rest are Tennessee, Texas, Florida, Carolinas. Why the hell would we want to go into that conference? Travel expenses would be ridiculous. I also don't think you'd have as much fan support if away games were that far away.

That wasnt the point. But lets go with the PSU thought.
So NDSU get a whiff because of football. Make your case to join the Big Ten or any one of the conferences that will fit our footprint. Why do they want NDSU????

All those schools have significantly higher academic profiles than NDSU, especially Tulane, Navy, and SMU. Probably not the best barometers especially when we consider location.
NDSU is also bigger than several P5 schools.
That's not me saying not to shoot the shot, never hurts to have a goal. Just gonna be hard to achieve this one.

don't give me the fan away bullshit... it'd be 1000-1500 fans at away games , same as now.
Travel expenses would be offset by the CBB Big Dance Money & TV Money, easily.

Serious question---is there any FBS conference that you wouldn't want NDSU to join?

AAC comes with a 7 mil per year payout.

Way to move the goalposts into orbit.
We'd get to bring nationally ranked teams in football and basketball to Fargo. A state flagship that owns its media market in a way no other AAC school does.
I'm not saying that NDSU would be a shoe-in, infact I said the exact opposite. But its very much not outside the bounds of reality, as any replacement will be coming from Conference USA, the Sunbelt, or the MAC; schools and conferences that most around here look down on, and rightfully so.

Navy aside, private schools are extremely over rated in public perception, and the AAC doesn't double as a academic institution at the Big 10 does.

the commisioner of the Sunbelt is on record that he would accept NDSU.

The question was---not how it would help NDSU because thats all obvious. WHY would any of the big conferences want NDSU???

Re: FBS move fans. Here's a good read
problem with NDSU's success in football is this.
Everyone G5 Conference member & its fans don't want NDSU because of 1 thing.
NDSU would be a top 1-2 team in that conference on Day 1 and expose them.
Vet. I wouldn't do the SunBelt or SEC or Pac 10.

Thats what everyone thought when we moved up to the MVFC. Just saying.

True. Our 2008 and 2009 teams learned quickly about the need to retain your players. Attrition killed that team. Not only players, but position coaches.
They also learned the importance of developing depth at all positions, including quarterback. It was so bad, DJ McNorton played linebacker for a game. They also learned you need more than 1 good corner and the need for an elite LT. (Remember Jose Moehler getting sacked 12 times vs UNI)
Injuries and attrition, (much due to bad character) destroyed that team like no one I have ever seen.
I think years later, we have a good handle on it and would probably be in a better position to move up

Coach Bohl also admitted that we needed to recruit a different type of player.

That is also why Big Sky did not approve NDSU. Two Montana school on board but others did not want someone else beating them right away. Bring on the competition.

Yeah it never ended up working out for us in the MVC.
the 08, 09 years had alot more to do with us than the level of competition

Potato, patato. I don't think you can separate the two. We didn't have the right type of players for the level of competition. Bohl himself told the story about how after getting the snot beat out of us by UNI he got a close look at their linemen and turned to a coach and said, "We have to get ourselves some of those".

yeah thats true- I always wonder how the 06/07 teams would have done in the MVC in 08/09. We had a damn good team those years, would have been really fun to have seen how we stacked up not playing the great west schedule

You've never heard of the Camellia Bowl? Odd.
Also, when you get 3rd place in your division of the sun belt, you dont go to very good bowls.
-
Re: FBS move fans. Here's a good read
NDSU was only 2-0 in the Camellia Bowl (beating the Griz both times), including the game that would get them the votes to win the 1969 College Division National Championship.
-
Re: FBS move fans. Here's a good read
Random thought here too.
Often times people bring up these lesser bowls as a reason to not want to be FBS. "I dont want to go to <insert city here> to play in <low tier bowl>."
While appearing in these bowls would certainly happen as a result of playing better competition, if NDSU is as good or fairly close to the level people seem to think it is, wouldn't you anticipate fairly regular conference championships/10+ win seasons? Those typically yield a bowl game against a solid team. Say you have a very good year and go 11-1 or 12-0 and you are looking at a great game

Yep. A 5' 7" corner doesnt cut it in the MVFC. Same with a non athletic LT. Our interior DT and guards used to be 6-1 to 6-3. Now we're 6-4- to 6-6 inside. We probably resemble a Big Ten Oline. Throw in these 6-6 TEs and we are different. And what's crazy is these big guys arent slow either

Devil is in the details here.
The slots will go to the top 6 conferences and 6 at large.
Those at large will 100% be P5, and almost all SEC and B1G slots.
So ... this is great IF you are in one of the top 6 Conferences.
Join the MWC? Absolutely!
Join CUSA? Hell no, they will drop even further behind when they can't get a CFP slot. It will snowball.
And they won't be able to when they've got teams almost losing to Bryant and SFA.
MWC or bust.
