Their actions say otherwise. Likelihood of eventual split of P2 or P4 persists. They made an attempt already towards establishing a third subdivision in D1 football. Not speaking about scholarships here, but rather the ability to fully participate in top tier of football and playoffs.

Would be rather shocked if we turned down football only invite to MW, insisting it be all sports or nothing.
All sports members are generally desirable for FBS conferences, as they give a buffer if you lose members. To retain status, an FBS conference must have 8 all sports members.
My read has been that the pro-NDSU faction in the MWC is now all in the PAC, where we bring alot of football value but don't offer anything outside of track in the olympic sports. At the time that the MWC split we appeared to have a shift in rhetoric from the AD and some high level people seemed excited including our own Mr Burgundy. I also feel like NDSU would want to get a full season under Coach P before announcing and give them a season to leave on top and at full strength. It made sense at the time that we would get an invite and sit on it.
Being able to bring in high-mid-major opponents for basketball (UNLV, UNM, etc) would probably be a big deal, so the adminstration would take an all-sports invitation and full revenue cut from the MWC over the football only and partial revenue from the PAC. I could also be seeing ghosts. In any case I think we will have an announcement for either conference within the next month, there are no better opportunities for either conference.

I'm quite skeptical we get a breakthru announcement that soon, but certainly hope you are right.
Texas St is nearly 100% PAC's #8, and it feels very unlikely they will add a FCS school. It feels like they may even consider holding at 8 for a year or so if that helps them land another MW or AAC school (exit fees would be lower). If they poach a MW school, that certainly feels like it would leave few other good options for them. They can't pull from AAC, and would have to look towards MAC again or CUSA if they want to avoid FCS teams.

Well, he certainly believes he is. I have no idea.

No shock to anyone who has followed transition waiver requests the past few years in NCAA.
Our best path is if PAC poaches additional MW members, or MW decides to expand. Expansion via FCS teams is also unfortunately not easy in current environment where P2 wish to shrink FBS membership rather than grow it.
Is there any chance Sacramento State can be eligible for the FCS playoffs?
They sure put together an interesting Transfer Portal class, but did they blow through FCS scholarship limits on the way?
Re: A new and better FBS thread
yes...would need an at large bid.
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Texas St invite to PAC now seems imminent. Assuming they accept, pressure is off PAC to make further moves quickly.

Crazy to me that Texas St is seen as a valuable enough program to add to the PAC.
But we’ve hashed and rehashed the stupidity of conference additions before.

Well the alternative appears to be New Mexico State.
