Let the wild-ass speculation begin. I suspect we’ll know something this week, about more than just the PAC. NMSU makes the most sense to me and would qualify as a “bombshell”. I guess we’ll find out this week how tapped in these guys are … they are quite bullish on NDSU to MWC
Total baitcasting, and nothing new posted here, outside the possibility of a 9th PAC member add, which is logical.
8 is necessary for survival, 9 is good for FBS scheduling.
Texas St is already well known, and he just says that is going to happen, with a possible rumor of a 9th.
The 9th member he claims fits one of the following
"UNLV
Memphis
Tulane
1 of the Texas AAC schools.
Any school that is so far East that folks haven't considered.."
Thats a pretty broad and logical shortlist.
The potential "surprise" from the East would be UConn, and wouldn't be a surprise at all. Alternatively, there's a chance USF moves from AAC.
UNT and UTSA from AAC could be in play for PAC.
Without naming the specific school, and being correct on that school getting named as #9, anyone could have come up with this.
Re: A new and better FBS thread
The Big Mountain guy has been adamant that NDSU is coming to the MW as a football only add. He mentions it twice in that very thread you just referenced.

He's a fan for sure. I guess we'll see. I know some of our fans are getting edgy
I guess “bombshell” means different things to different people. Sorry to troll the Aggies, poor Aggies …

back over the winter it was reported that NDSU and MWC had discussions and NDSU was firm on all-sports-only. Assuming that they want to move up, which I think they do, I don't think you play that card unless you have something better than a MWC football-only bid in your pocket.
Where did you see the bold part reported? Back when McMurphy was saying that the MWC had "interest" in NDSU it was as a football-only member and, in my opinion, that is the perfect scenario for an athletic department that need to be very cost conscientious overall but has a football program that has greatly outgrown its current subdivision.
I seem to recall Matt Larsen give a very matter-of-fact one word "No" answer when Dom asked him if he had any financial concerns about NDSU making a football-only move to an FBS conference. I'm not saying that rules out what you said but I've don't ever remember hearing that was NDSU pushing for an all-sports MWC invite vs football only - in fact I'd guess they would've pushed for the opposite if given their preference.
Re: A new and better FBS thread
He did say he has NDSU going to MWC and not PAC-12 so that seems to eliminate NDSU as the bombshell since the bombshell is PAC-12 related.
Re: A new and better FBS thread
some are saying that whole post was triggered by this X post, who is a notoriously bad source and generally just pulls stuff out his arse. He is known for spreading bullcrap.

Sorry, but the TBM guys don't come across as all that credible to me, more of an echo chamber of other well known rumors. If they thought they had something, they should be naming specific schools, right now they can just go "told you so, that was the rumor" if *any* 9th school is added, which is an obvious play for the PAC. This reminds me of the same tricks fortune tellers use to fool their clients. Ambiguity that gives a lot of opportunity to appear correct.
Nine members is considered a good stable size for a conference, and it won't be a shock at all if they add 2 shortly.

I believe that is from a McFeely appearance on Izzo's show

D1 council voted to formally reject Sac St bid for FBS transition without conference invite

No shock to anyone who has followed transition waiver requests the past few years in NCAA.
Our best path is if PAC poaches additional MW members, or MW decides to expand. Expansion via FCS teams is also unfortunately not easy in current environment where P2 wish to shrink FBS membership rather than grow it.

The power 2 wanting to shrink membership is a myth. Reality is every conference will have the ability to go up to 105 full rides scholarships

Possibly, though never heard/saw that myself outside of Lakes posting it everywhere.
Would be rather shocked if we turned down football only invite to MW, insisting it be all sports or nothing.
All sports members are generally desirable for FBS conferences, as they give a buffer if you lose members. To retain status, an FBS conference must have 8 all sports members.
