Re: A new and better FBS thread
Hard to see a scenario now where NDSU doesn’t get a call up to either the MWC or the AAC within the next year. Just my humble opinion. Stay tuned, should be a fun season on several fronts

I thought that they’d already done that when they Hoovered up Maryland, Rutgers, and Nebraska?!

Today, June 30, would be the last day USC and UCLA could inform the Pac-12 they intend on leaving the conference if they want to avoid potential additional financial penalties, three sources tell CBS Sports' Matt Norlander. The active Pac-12 grant of rights expires on June 30, 2024.....so if you wanted to know why this is coming out today, there is your answer.

They want Clemson and FSU and probably Notre Dame too, too bad about those ACC grants of rights.

It's been rumored for a while that SEC/B10 will continue to expand, form 2 "super league" conferences, then split from everyone else. Mega-money, semi-pro type setup with maybe 48-64 teams total.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Matt Larson needs to put on the full court press during this round of conference realignment. The time is NOW!

Lol. Yeah, that's gonna happen. Not. We'd have a shot at a MWC or AAC call up if we were in the CUSA. But we're too good for that. We'll smugly take comfort in how much better we are than Sam Houston and NMSU and everyone else all the way to our FCS grave.

CUSA might not exist after this round, depending how the dice lands.
I've seen some crazy scenarios where they may be forced to dissolve.
WKU, MTSU, LT, UTEP, NMSU might all be in play depending how this cascades.
Lets hope MWC loses a few and opens that door.
I'm not excited about joining SLC 2.0, which is where CUSA is headed.

unfortunately ! President Cook!! you're a Big 12 guy, Kansas Basketball.
You can clean house, New AD, New Basketball program. Grab an AD that's a Big 12 PIMP and have him.work his magic, then grab some KU Basketball pedigree and get the SHAC at 5000/game

Fair point. But even if CUSA dissolves, the good teams are going to be rescued by the remaining conferences. If NDSU was in CUSA, we'd have a path to a better conference. However, I would also note that if NDSU was in CUSA, the CUSA starts to get dangerously close to being a decent conference in its own right and maybe has no need to dissolve.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Things about to get crazy for PAC12, and maybe B12/MWC as a result.
Oregon/Washington rumored next to B1G, maybe within a week.

If they went to 12/14, prime candidates include
BYU (22 Sagarin)
CSU (106 Sagarin). The Buffs will whine but now it’s time. CO can support a P5 rivalry at this point in time
Nevada (61 Sagarin). Why not
UHI (102 Sagarin). Good left-coast cause to support the Rainbow Warriors
Utah State Aggies (55 Sagarin). Suck it up Utes. Same deal as CO

So UCLA and USC can join the big 10 but we can’t join the MWC because of “travel issues”?

The remaining "good" teams (WKU/MTSU) getting plucked are what may be its downfall.
WAC lost its FBS status due to a quick double-realignment scenario like the one underway now.
I'm not at all convinced anyone is throwing SHSU and JSU lifelines if CUSA disbands during their transition.
Its also not clear if they would be granted FBS status thru a waiver/exemption, and they don't have the funds to be successful as an Indy.
CUSA is in a very very dicy situation now if additional schools leave by 2024.

No legitimate FBS conference is going to extend an invitation to SHSU or JSU. They are local/regional teachers' colleges with no penetration into any market outside their local cities. Their only option ever for FBS was going to be CUSA.

PAC 12 and Big 12 merge as a last resort. This really is our best chance at getting into the MWC. Need to make it happen now or never!

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Cal and Stanford will not sit idly by and allow the PAC to devolve around them.
I'm guessing they're on the phone with the B1G also.

Montana Fan page on Facebook:
BREAKING: USC and UCLA are leaving the PAC-12 to join the Big Ten in 2024, with Oregon and Washington expected to apply for Big Ten membership soon as well.
This leaves open the possibility that the PAC-12 will recruit schools from the Mountain West Conference, opening up a path for Montana and Montana State, North Dakota State and South Dakota State to get an invite to the Mountain West Conference.
Stay tuned…
#GoGriz
I don't see south Dakota State going. but Missouri St or uni ?

Lots of moving parts still.
Will Cal/Stan allow PAC to slum with MWC schools? Or ...
When the music stops might the remaining PAC just merge with Big XII?
I don't believe the picking of the PAC is done; I could see Cal/Stan/Wash/Ore end up B1G.
I've seen a scenario where Colo/Utah/Az/ASU go Big XII and Wassu and OrSU end up ... in the MWC!
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Some rumblings of the Big XII pursuing Utah, Colorado, Arizona and Arizona State. Have also heard rumors of Kansas to the Big 10. Seems like a reach but KU fits their academic and geographic profile.
Buckle up.

South Dakota State would/will go when we go if they get an offer. They aren't UND/USD. They have leadership

There may not be a PAC 12 when this is done. And if that's the case, the MWC doesn't open up to the likes of NDSU or Montana, but rather they become the lifeboat for whoever is left in the PAC.

This could also speed up Boise going to the Big 12. If the Big 10 goes west, they ain't doing just 2 . They want a while western division of 7
This might force Boise to move quicker or maybe all the leftover PAC 12 teams go to the Mountain West making a stronger conference. Or Maybe the PAC 12 merges with the Mountain West. Or maybe the Big 12 makes a western division
So many crazy scenarios are possible

Maybe, but our prospects are currently looking 100x better than they were about a week ago...
As far as SDSU, I know what they've said in the past. I just don't see a situation where they sit around if we were to go MW. It would greatly affect bball, even if we were a football only MW member. They can't have that, they'd have to try to push to make FBS work. They even have a bigger stadium than us :)

Isn't UNI broke? Or did they fix that problem. Thought there were some things a few years ago.

yeah, and none of them involve NDSU. We're f'd. We've got an FBS-quality practice facility that is ostentatious for an FCS school. We've got P5 ticket prices. And yet we remain (and likely will remain) stuck in FCS because of an MWC-or-bust mentality. Somehow we think that a couple more FCS championships will change the MWC's mind. What would change their mind, or maybe even get the attention of the Big 12, would be some victories over highly ranked FBS opponents and some NY6 appearances. You can do that from the CUSA. You can't do that from FCS. No one around here wants to contemplate FBS independent and the CUSA train has left the station so we're stuck. I just wanted to remind people that some of the media reports during the last round of realignment were that we had a football-only ticket on that train and we threw it away. Bresciani did so many good things for the university. But he will also be remembered as the guy who gave us a life-sentence in FCS.

Big 12
Pac 12
Mountain West
Listed in order of awesomeness if Larson could get er done.

Yep but I have a tough time believing the PAC 12 would take all the Mountain West teams since they are a big time academic conference.
Also you got the chance the PAC 12 steals BYU away from the Big 12. Or maybe the Big 12 targets Colorado, Boise and Utah State? Or maybe the PAC 12 targets Colorado State or the bigger Pac 12 schools like Oregon. Or maybe the PAC 12 targets the 2 California schools in the Mountain West
