Re: A new and better FBS thread
Being a FB only affiliate is a fantasy from the FBS or Bust crowd that know but won't admit our Olympic sports aren't up to FBS conference standards. Rather than improve our sports they'd prefer to blame the flavor of the week for why we haven't gotten an invite.

Might be where it's headed, TBH, given current trends. They could always drop back down to D2, of course.
But back to the discussion between MWC and BigHorns
"and we're not done yet" - Mike Aresco right after they raided CUSA. They are at 14 now, though, so unclear what he has in mind.

4th of July. NDSU takes American Athletic Conference invite... I could live with that

Another recent quote from Aresco "“How big can conferences grow before they’re not even conferences anymore?” Aresco said. “They’re basically leagues with divisions. I don’t necessarily subscribe to the notion that there’s going to be four 16-team conferences"
AAC was initially targeting MWC schools, and that could have created an interesting cascade for us.
Now, my guess is they stay put until either Big 12 raids them again (Memphis, USF are thought to be possible), or when their media contract expires and gets reworked. I could see Big 12 adding two more once the dust settles and OU/Texas depart for the SEC. Bowlsby has aluded to this. That could trigger another round, with possible openings in either MWC or AAC.
I wouldn't expect any significant action this year though ... the conferences are all sort of processing/digesting the last round of moves.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
if the Big 12 keeps bleeding that might be NDSU'S best shot

IMO, if they continue to bleed teams they're probably the conference that is most likely to take a program based on the quality of their football. Still, they'd have to fall a far, far ways to take a school with a 20k indoor stadium in Fargo, ND.
Regardless, the Big 12 getting picked apart would be VERY good for our chances of moving up.

If BIG 12 came to NDSU & said. "build a 45,000 stadium and you're in"
would NDSU/Fargo actually do it?

Only if the rest of the state would pay for it eh.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
To be fair, if NDSU could raise around $500M+ for a 45k seat indoor stadium on short notice that would draw the attention of a lot of conferences.

All that matters are TV/streaming eyeballs. Everything is a content play. Streaming and the balkanization of what used to be cable may actually be a good thing for programs like NDSU though because I think our fans are much more engaged than most of our competitors and therefore more monitizeable.

True, and if said stadium is filled with fans, would be like a Cincinnati or Houston in play for P5 invites.
I don't think B12 will sniff a school without at least 30k attendance and $50 million budget though.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Apparently there are reports of UCLA and USC moving to the B10? Hmmm

But what'll be left? The MWC could get WAC'd. Or ...
The Big XII and PAC remnants could align and the MWC might go untouched.
Today in a t-shirt (NSFW).

The Pac 12 is losing two, maybe a couple more. They won't raid the whole MW, they'll just take the top.
Lol I'd love to get the "MWC" poster back in here. "MW has no reason to look for more teams" mmm how about now?

If this happens, my guess is that the PAC steals from the B12 not the MWC. If that happens then the Big12 takes from the MWC.
Or if it goes the other way and the PAC steals from the MWC that just reduces movement. Same outcome though.... 2 spots (at least) in the MWC.

Matters not. Key is to get moved up.

Yep, meant "they" as in P5 conferences. Don't matter to me how, just get Boise and SDSU outta there for us :)

At what point do we stop talking about the P5 and get real about the P2?

You're right, probably now if we aren't already.
Wait, that means that FCS is really the "fourth" tier of college football?! Noooooooo

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Washington, Stanford, and Cal won't stand idly by (or let "lessers" in).
Oregon has Nike money but no media eyeballs (by comparison).

I mean is this where Kansas, Oklahoma State, Kansas State and Iowa State bid adieu to the B12?

Depending on Wash, Stan, Cal, and Oregon ... does the PAC fold up shop? Some go B1G and rest go Big XII?
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Ohhhhh WE need PAC 10 to take
Boise and SDSU. then NDSU slides in to MWC

Think it will be a cold day before either of them get in. PAC takes academics very seriously.

Even after losing the LA schools, the rest of the P12 is light-years more lucrative than the B12. Are those schools going to join a conference headquartered in Irving, TX with schools like Houston and Cincy in it? I have my serious doubts.
I'd think they're going to take the major state colleges from the west half of the B12 and call it a day.

or the Montana schools. Wasn't Montana one of the charter schools in the Pac-8 many moons ago?

Hope so, there is a risk the cascade goes: PAC -> B12 -> AAC -> SBC/CUSA
Last round when B12 got raided, the MWC was untouched, and there's thought to be 2-4 AAC teams that may jump to B12.
-

That's true... it could happen. I would be shocked if the PAC doesn't go after SDSU though to keep the SoCal presence.

The UC vs CSU* bias could rear its ugly head --> UC Berkeley does not want to keep company with a CSU (San Diego State).
*Just like the UM/MnSCU thing in MN.

As seen at CSNBBS ...
Conference Realignment: It doesn't have to make sense, it just has to make money.
