Reality is SEC/B1G are the two ton gorillas and often get their way, even if its against the self interests of other members.
The reality is the B10/SEC are well on their way to creating their own super league, which has been obvious for years and openly public for weeks now. Not sure why the G5 would placate the schools that are literally trying to ruin them and hoard all the money while they’re at it. Like most power struggles, the big boys would have you believe that the only way the system can work is if they’re allowed to siphon a ton of money off the top, and that at any moment they could take their ball and go home and be better off. Truth is they need to be a part of a national system, lest they become the next XFL.
Unless presidents at G5 schools are trying to jockey for a cush VP position at one of those schools, I’d believe that lol

Hoping Hawaii resets things, didn't like how things were trending
Re: A new and better FBS thread
NIU and Toledo would mean 10 football schools. If there is no deal to be had there, they would likely add one more school. However, 8 is a little clunky but for decades it was the Pac 8 and the Big 8 conferences. It can be done.
I really like 9 for all sports..It works really well.

Not sure whats being said behind closed doors, but it is pretty clear the P2/4 have all the leverage and are setting the rules. They are the ones that took away the 6th CFP autobid and shrank it to 5 autobids for this year. The other G5 conferences had veto power over that change, yet approved it against their own self interest. They must have been either promised something or threatened to go along with that. Now they will be competing with a rebuilt PAC for only one autobid. ANY of the G5 conferences could have stopped that change contractually, but they caved to what P2 wanted. It's a pattern in FBS.

And it gets worse in '26, with BG10 and SEC upping their take and reducing everyone else's (https://frontofficesports.com/cfp-ag...%20and%2010%25) and with them arguing for more playoff spots for themselves and fewer for other conferences (https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/580...ing-agreement/)

The P2 sure have everyone thinking that they have all the leverage, that’s for sure. What has happened at the G5 and below levels is absolutely pathetic how they’ve let themselves be walked all over.

Golden Rule: those with the gold make the rules.
