Re: A new and better FBS thread
The jump to $42 million will have to come from a multiple sources...donors, media revenue, institutional funds, money games, etc.

48% versus 26% and you are proud of that?
Student fees are actually only 10% of the total. UND also offers a significantly more balanced M:F ratio for opportunities (both in scholarships and direct expenses), which come at a higher cost as female opportunities don't drive much revenue. If the students didn't support it anymore, they could reduce the fees.
NDSU does remain impressive, but when they are getting $5 million line item bailouts from the state government to cover their general operations, I don't think there is a lot of wiggle room to use additional general funds for athletics.
As a general comparison to D1 non-privates, NDSU makes the top quartile and should be commended on that. UND is in the top 1/3 for least percentage of allocated funds covering their budget. Room for improvement but not what I'm going to worry about at this point given additional factors.

There is zero talk of NDSU using internal funds to fund a move. That is exactly why it is feasible, not the other way around.

It doesn't hurt to put in a little effort and let the conferences know you are interested. NDSU still has leverage. Tons of national championships and an amazing fan base as shown on College Gameday hosting.
At this pace I can see NDSU joining MAC around 2044 along with Saint Thomas.
Thing is, people in the know are saying we've done this already. Its actually pretty common for the leaks and rumors to stay quiet until the discussions get heated and its close to happening. And right now the conferences are focused on picking off FBS teams first.
Screaming it more publicly and loudly doesn't necessarily change anything. Our position has already been signalled thru folks like Izzo and McFeely.
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Hopefully the right people know bro. Not just the Fargo media getting smoke up their ass.
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Maybe the NIU and Toledo football only invites have something to do with the eventual football only invites for the XDSUs? LOL I guy can dream right? Everything else is upside down right now anyway.

This phase of craziness has to pass before we get to the adding FCS teams stage. Just like MW wasn’t ever going to move until it became clear what the PAC was going to do. It’s all a cascade that occurs in a predictable sequence. Shit starts at the top and flows downhill.
Much of the frustration comes from the fact that because of the lack of groundwork that has been previously laid, they have put themselves in a position that not much can be done now. I don't view them as innocent "victims" of this situation. They contributed to the current situation and should be held accountable for that.

Shamelessly stolen from another (not UND) forum:
Once again, this forum *vastly* *vastly* *VASTLY* overrates how much FBS leagues want to have FCS call ups. This forum also *vastly* *vastly* *VASTLY* underrates how much of a negative the locations of the Dakota and Montana schools work against them even for leagues considering FCS call ups. Look at the latest two call-ups of Delaware and Missouri State which are in the middle of highly populated regions. The last round of FCS call-ups featured Texas, North Carolina, Georgia and Virginia schools. This forum also perpetually overrates bus driving distances for geography and underrates ease of major airport access and commercial flights (which is much more meaningful, particularly for Western-based leagues).

I'm fascinated by the media piece of all this in a dying linear TV world. I have an extremely difficult time believing a Sam Houston St game gets as many eyeballs as an NDSU game. The regional sports networks are dying, so just counting on folks passively paying cable bills, is over.
