When the dust settles, the remaining schools in the MWC will rebuild, with FCS call ups being the only real option. A lot will depend on who left standing in the MWC has the most pull – San Jose state will no doubt lobby for Sac State and Davis, not the XDSUs. Maybe there is enough room for all, but we should hope that Wyoming has significant pull in any potential rebuild scenario
The Sunbelt is 100% what you want to mimic if you are serious about FB. The problem is that of the potential MWC survivors, only Wyoming would appear to fall into this category. Apologies to Hawaii but you’re just in an odd category all around, and the rest are the worst of FBS. If you are serious about FB, there is only one way to fix this …
Cook is in a tough spot on multiple fronts, not the least of which is his wife’s health. My personal opinion based on what I’ve heard is that he is indeed pushing this. We came very close before the B1G farted on the PAC in the last cycle, but much of this is out of NDSU’s hands. Some of you seem to have a hard time accepting this fact
On to the redbirds (who I believe are getting looks from the Mac?)
ALL of this sounds exactly right imo.
Expect it to take significant time to sort out, longer than the fans want. Court cases could make it messy and draw out the timelines, maybe even a year or more.
There are no guarantees, but this is the best opportunity we have had in a very long time.

What's not outside NDSU's hands is their decision to put all their eggs in the football basket and woefully underfund basketball which made the path to FBS even more difficult. NDSU doesn't control their own destiny as far as conference affiliation but to go through as much shakeup as has happened and to not be on any conferences' dance card is at best a miscalculation and at worst a dereliction of duty in regards to doing due diligence on what NDSU needs to accomplish in order to get an invite. Making excuses for past leadership decisions is part of the reason why we are in this position.

Do you know this to be true?

Have we been invited? Close only matters in horseshoes and hand grenades.
If FBS was always a long shot that was totally out of NDSU's control, why continue to throw so much money at it at the expense of a more balanced athletic department? If we were close and the determining factor was solely geography, what could be done to overcome it? If nothing can be done to overcome it, than why not push the Oly sports and force the Summit to chase us so that we make it a much more respected conference for all other sports and hopefully offset some football revenue loss with a revenue gain on that side? Might even make us more attractive for a potential conference upgrade. This seems like simple complacency to what had been working with no vision for trying to position the Ath. Dept. as a more balanced operation. Football no doubt has gained an abundance of notoriety for NDSU but if there is nothing long term really to show for it than I really don't see how you can label that as anything but a missed opportunity.
Re: A new and better FBS thread
I really don't know why they didn't pump up wrestling and get working on the big 12 once they got their foot in the door. Even if that didn't pan out it shows the interest and then maybe one of these pud conferences would have offered a while back. Now we're waiting on being the last option for a pud and probably still end up in the second tier D2 anyways. Wrestling is a complete joke, basketball is, and football is working on it.
Like I said. Matt is good at other things. Like hiring assistants and assistant assistants eh.
Re: A new and better FBS thread
New Flash:
Even at Bball schools like Kansas, they make more money off football. They fund their football programs generously. Football is always priority #1. That came from Dr. Cook himself at a face to face conversation.

Sunbelt is a great formula. Appalachian, Georgia Southern and JMU are far enough removed from the FCS, people don't even think of them as former FCS. Mix them with Marshall and it's appealing to a casual fan
NDSU, South Dakota State, Montana and Montana State are equally as impressive as the Sunbelt teams

First off, you are 100% right. And the mwc collective has many voices inside it that have been screeching to add jmu instead of montana, because jmu is fbs and montana is fcs which is beyond fucking stupid.
There is literally no positive difference between montana/ndsu and jmu. And jmu was fcs like 2 years ago. Id argue that as flagships ndsu/montana has way more potential than jmu. Especially regarding a map...

You mean 22 more scholarships, enough to field an entire offense and defense isn't different?

This is something that changes with a flick of a pen. Its meaningless.
Jmu is a 5th teir public school with maxxed out credit cards (student fees). Ndsu is a flagship. Jmu is also basically on the atlantic ocean and this conference exists almost completely in mountain time.
I do wonder if ndsu can afford the scholarships though. 44 more was one thing, but if its like 150 more plus revenue sharing, that might be harder. (I believe football is 105 next year, and a bunch of other sports also ratcheted up the numbers).
