No, it's long past time for the next chapter.

“Reaching out to Conference USA” lol not one school in that conference is flying to Hawaii unless they’re getting paid a million bucks to do so

This 100%. I very much highly doubt there are any recruits or current players who wouldn’t be excited about NDSU going into the next level. If competing for championships is what we want to do let’s drop to the NSIC then, they’ll LOVE how much winning we can do at that level.

Don't know that answer, but would be a little surprised if we've been selling recruits on FBS.
In today's landscape, you need to assume every recruit 's goal is to play FBS and possibly make 6 figures per year. Even middle of the pack or lower pack G5 teams can pay a great FCS player close to 6 figures per year, no problem. Thats not including endorsement deals either - just NIL collectives.
99.9% of FCS guys will never play in the NFL, so why would they not jump ship immediately to make a few hundred K before they are 22, by transferring to FBS.
Take for example Marty Brown - you don't think FBS schools will be looking at him this offseason, if he crushes it this year? Why would the kid stick around at NDSU, when he can get 6 figures for the next 3 years at FBS? He'd be stupid to stay here in all honesty. Unless we are forking over 100k/year for him to do so.

Reaching out doesn't mean the call gets returned. They did an OOC deal with SHSU though, so may have AD level connections.
ESPN "radio network" has a large number of local market affiliates across the US, including the Fan here in Fargo.

If that's a spoof account, they work awfully hard at it

General rule though is the higher level conferences poach first, then it filters down.
It does seem probable if UNLV leaves, so does AFA.
AAC would be better option at that point for AFA again. AAC successfully repelling the PAC raid on Memphis, Tulane, UTSA, USF helps them emerge stronger.
One story I read said AFA was given $10 million as a signing bonus for the MOU and staying in the MWC. Maybe put a 10-day hold on that check?

Does that really change for players in a MWC that is a shell of what it used to be?

Not saying you are wrong, but want to see the data to back that claim.

*might* make it easier to swipe some players that otherwise would go to a SDSU or MSU.
Retention is actually much harder in G5 due to all the competition. Entire rosters and coaching staffs get swiped after a successful season by those further up the chain. See Troy and FSU this year. They got devastated by the portal and NIL.
