Not a Payton hater at all. Seems like a good dude. But nothing killed more drives this year than taking the best player on Offense off the field for a play or 2.
Killed the first 2 drives of the 2nd half vs Colorado by doing that.
Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
Not hater but we just beat SDSU and he did virtually nothing in that game. The way we used him and Cam this year was just way too clunky.
Re: 2021 Verbal: Cole Payton
I'd rather have Cole healthy but a silver lining of the injury is that maybe it'll lead to more under center formation and run plays out of the I formation. Since defenses will know that NDSU won't be too eager to run Cam a ton. Give me some Marty Brown with a (mostly) full head of steam when he gets the ball and I think we can have some fun!

Man that sucks. 6 weeks immobilized in a sling if it's a SLAP repair, at least mine was. No movement, fairly long painful rehab after, 6 months before it was fully back to normal again.

The way we’ve always used him has been way too clunky. I have said this all year but I think the way our coaches have used CP to this point (even including last year) has been a waste and will ultimately go down as a missed opportunity to use maybe the most physically gifted player NDSU has had outside of a lineman in my lifetime.
This whole “is he a QB, is he a RB, is he a TE, etc.” has done very little for his actual development as a football player. Jack of all trades, master of none. I’ve said it all year I don’t know if he’s even going to be the starter next year. Shame

Great athlete without a doubt. But is he a great football player?

I would venture to say that he's one of the better football players on our team, and would probably start at every Valley or Big Sky school sans SDSU, USD, and MSU.
It just so happens to be that his primary position is occupied by the best football player in FCS and any of the other positions he could play are occupied by other very good football players.
Is he better than Marty or BK? Is he better than our top 4 receivers? Is he better than Stoffel at TE? No, he's not, because he's been a quarterback here his whole career. But you could also easily say that all those guys that are better than him at their primary position are no where near as good as him at QB.

I'm not sure but I don't think he's a great QB. I'm not a hater but I just don't think he's a great QB. Should have tried to convince him to switch to TE. He's a poor mans Tim Tebow. Sorry he's injured but I'm excited to see what Hayes can do if given the chance.

Agree - I think it will help if anything. No more obvious run up the middle out of shotgun every time Cole comes in kind of plays

TP mentioned in the press conference about immediately building the offense around him in February. Unless some good transfer falls into our lap, I think he will be our QB next year.
