Literally there is only one thing that can stop that and it’s $$$. Like maybe $100m to start the fund. Without that all schools will be subject to the top 5 schools stealing your best players.

Let’s assume, arguendo, that NIL Collectives at all schools (just for football for the sake of this discussion) were somehow legally capped at $100m—would that decrease the number of players entering the portal? For some reason, I don’t feel it would. What does that tell us.

CAS pulling out the legal words on BV! Bold!
That said, I agree with you. Kids will seek out opportunities (financial, PT, location, et al) that they feel suits them at that particular time.

I’d like to hear more about why you feel it wouldn’t.

I do because right now you have a disparity at the zero to hundred thousand range for a lot of schools. Kids will move for 100-300k.
Yes some will still move for higher competition or better conference or whatever. But larger schools being able to literally buy smaller schools players is crazy.

Same. Caps generally tend to work.

You missed the cap part and I failed to include the assumption that all schools were at that level.
IMO, and given the current transfer rules, there would be the same amount of kids entering the portal because the cap brings us back to a zero to zero score.

Good point. Isn’t it possible that a level playing field would actually increase portal use, since every school would now be a player?

But they wouldn’t. All monetary things being equal, the only difference is perceived (by players—and maybe some fans) level of play. In sum, my proposition brings us to no NIL but current portal rules, with the point being $$ are in equation right now but, even if they weren’t, we’d still have the portal issues.
Re: A new and better FBS thread
That’s an interesting argument!

Yep if there is no monetary incentive then you are back to playing time.
