Your national championship game should be a huge national draw, but I don't think it is, partly because ESPN seems to broadcast it out of obligation with almost no promotion in the preceding week. I love watching weeknight MAC-tion games.
No CyPanth, the right question is: do we want to play our football games on Tuesdays?
That's it, the end.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
Just how much does NDSU subsidize the PUD FCS & MVFC?
9 times - sold out Frisco 20,000+
2016 - JMU YSU 14,230
2020- sdsu 7,840
(so basically NDSU subsidizing fcs title game for $1 million I'm ticket sales for 9 years = $9 million
Bars/Restaurants/Hotels = $2-5 million per year
MFVC (most teams charge double for NDSU game, so they are increasing their revenue cuz of us)
SDSU - extra 5000 seats every other year x $50 = $250k plus food/beer/bars/hotels
und - extra 5000 seats every other year =$250k
(no one buys anything in grand forks & drives home)
usd & uni - extra 3000 seats every other year = $150k
(they do get food/bars/restaurants/hotel revenue)
Wiu, Indy State, Siu - extra 1000 seats $40,000 & Roadwarrior spending $500.
let's face it. we subsidize all these puds.
NDSU needs to quit being leeched and move the fuck onto FBS pronto

A small part of your argument, but I've been to a few games at Indiana State. I would estimate more like 500 people there and half of them are parents who may get comp tickets. Let's assume they don't. I think the GA ticket was like $8. So they get $4k tops. Much likely less. Although the ticket price there probably supports your argument even more.

Hmmm, this actually brings up a really good point. If we had a new, unconstrained capacity stadium and were MW. How much could we expect to get for visiting fans? What is typical?
Would Boise, Colorado State, Wyoming, etc. bring more fans than the current 200? that most Valley teams bring? I would think so, but not sure how much.
To Chapo's point, in FCS there is a major, major inflow/outflow deficit when it comes to NDSU and our fan base...

When you add up:
Increased ticket prices for NDSU game
Parking
Concessions
The schools themselves bring in much more than $4k on NDSU, and the city gets
Air traffic
Hotel stays
Restaurant visits
Rental car usage
Last time I went to missouri state the ticket of the NDSU game was twice all the games besides homecoming. And more than half the fans there were NDSU folks.
In return Missouri state brings maybe 50 people

Re: A new and better FBS thread
exactly!!! good discussion.
if NDSU could push Fargodome to 23,500 attendence somehow & widen concourse, Boise State Colorado State, Wyoming bring 2000-2500 fans no doubt.
hotels/bars/restaurants/airports will love that extra money, right now, every team brings 50-100 parents, sdsu sells out their 250 seats we give them.
Media reach is bigger, more viewers/listeners.

Tigirlily should write a song called more seats and beer.

Hold my lighter up when they play that song at an outdoor concert in Hoople eh
All proceeds to the cause. Chapo gets the credit.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
In my experience, the Wyoming fans travel really well.
CSU not so much
Boise sends lots of fans
However, since most MW football games are at night and on tv it does depress road attendance considerably. It hurts home attendance as well.
On the other hand..There are a number of fun places to visit for your fans. It is tough to beat watching a game in Honolulu. San Diego has delightful weather year round. Vegas, baby!

I think there is enough articles/podcasts/etc. out there that would increase the intrigue for those fan bases to check out the gameday atmosphere in Fargo at least once. Could get a nice little boost in attendance, at least for the first couple of years.

Why should the FCS national title be a huge national draw?
I cant think of a single reason. I watch. But why would my buddy who went to Penn State watch? How bout my friend who went to NYU?

There are pockets of people who watch with no connection to any team. Coaches from all levels will watch all the championship games because they may have athletes they recruited playing in the game. Most officials I know watch all the championship games. A friend whose son plays for for Indiana State watched. A friend whose son played for IU and now Eastern Kentucky (and was offered as a transfer by NDSU) watched. So there are some pockets. But unless you have something like Deion leading Jackson State to the final and they put it on ESPN or ABC you won't have a huge national following.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
I have to say until NDSU posters started showing up on the MW board I knew very little about your program. I have never seen you play. I did know that Wentz came from there. However, I have since learned from those posters that you have had an amazing run in FCS, winning a bunch of championships in a row. I could not name a single school that you played in the final games though.
I am not saying any of that as a diss..I would guess almost none of you know much if anything about most of the MW schools. There are a lot of football schools out there so it is nigh on impossible to pay much attention to most of them.
By the by..I am a 49er fan. I have a vested interest in Trey Lance doing well..I had not heard of him until the talking heads started mentioning him for the draft. I was thinking the Niners would go for Mac Jones when they traded up so I was surprised. He looked okay in his limited playing time. He did not appear particularly fast or shifty but he certainly has a strong arm. Fingers crossed that Shanahan didn't blow it with this pick..

There's some good points here about what the average fan knows about opposing teams and the division in general. Since we're taking the time to post in this thread every single one of us is in the top 1% of general football knowledge. We need to realize that the average fan makes up the bulk of ticket sales and cares more about name recognition than team talent. Why do you think UND is one of the hardest tickets to get despite them not having a chance? I remember when someone in the FCS crushed North Texas and I genuinely thought they were D2. Way back in 2004 our very first D1 game was Valparaiso. Of course they're a terrible team and we crushed them, but there was enough name recognition from their basketball program that people were aware of them and the marketing campaign worked.

Re: A new and better FBS thread
After NDSU goes FBS, Bismarck can pay NDSU $1M to let UND come play them in the dome

Some more Conference USA news:
Per @MattBrownEP, CUSA reached out to NDSU about partial membership but the Bison quickly denied the offer.

Reading between the lines I would guess it was that CUSA reached out to our consultant, who was already to no way, Jose.
Never reached out to “NDSU”

Agreed. This is how schools/execs/coaches etc can always say they haven't spoken to anyone about XYZ. There is a proxy.

This is the first I have heard of a football only offer put on the table, Brown seems to be doubling down on it lately.
To me all it means is that it was out there for the taking and we screwed it up. What we don't know is if it was ML, DB or both of them that passed on the chance. If DB didn't want to go FBS, ML may be playing a longer game waiting for a new president. A lot of people pile on ML but the FBS decision is largely out of his hands and is driven by the president.

Huge deal if they turned down a football only offer. Football only offer is what everyone wants and would be very easy for NDSU to make happen.
-
Re: A new and better FBS thread
Of course he said no. It’s a downgrade in TV deal. Not surprised at all and it was a good call to pass on this particular offer

ML can literally only do what the president wants. People aren't asking DB enough questions when it comes to realignment.

Not enough people realize this. I'm not saying in a huge ML fan but it's not his call.

We have a random guy on the internet saying CUSA contacted us.
We have our AD who's communications are subject to open records laws saying CUSA didn't contact us.
I know which source I trust more. If you don't, go ahead and file the records request. Until then, STOP CRAPPING ON OUR AD!
